  1. Having some issues routing the dual exhausts from the plugged headers. I can only bend aluminum tube so much w/o kinking or breaking. I got thee minor bends using finger pressure with a styrene rod inserted in each to prevent kinking.
  2. Looking good!
  3. That works....forge ahead!
  4. Worked on the exhaust headers....R&M #DD-10 - Cut off the collector on the end of each resin piece, bent a piece of 3/32 inch aluminum tube (using a styrene rod insert to prevent kinking) to fit over the 1/16 inch of each header. Filed the tubing sides to taper the joint to match resin header OD. Headers will be plugged type for street. Measuring exhaust extension to connect to the plugged headers and fit under frame with dual exhaust mufflers.
  5. Once again......thanks much you guys. Looks like I'll be using elbow grease and sanding pads on this one.
  6. Cleaning up the interior, chopping a windshield frame next.
  7. Working on the flathead exhaust headers....this is a R&M part...will need to break out some K&S aluminum tubing or brass rod...for the extensions and under frame mufflers.
  8. Lookin good so far.
  9. Thanks Alan....dark metallic green with apple green wires...NICE! do a build thread !
  10. That has me perplexed....the orange peel was actually worse than this picture, on the previous try, and I cut the paint/thinner 50/50.....Yost recommends a 2 to 1paint/thinner...go figure. It was a sunny day, air temp in the 50's.....not sure what the humidity was but it wasn't raining or high.
  11. Wow...that's interesting. So it seems some degree of leveling the surface/orange peel is necessary with the color coat, and you regain the gloss with a fluid 40/60 after some aggressive polishing out?
  12. My first attempt at painting ended up with orange peel. Had to set it aside, let it cure and knock down the OP with the LMG KIT. Second attempt had less orange peel but still not acceptable. I'll have to wait for it to cure and have a second go at it. In the meantime I mocked up some grill sell artwork, in keeping with the Black widow/ coffin theme. If I like it, I'll probably do it on thin brass sheet.
  13. Well...not the Attempt One kit. Revell Attempt I Record Car, great for early dragster parts and trailer - General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars) - Model Cars Magazine Forum Maybe the Revell or AMT Double Dragster ?
  14. That might be hard to answer....IIRC when I started this one years ago I grabbed two sets out of old kits of that era. I recall I wanted old style hairpins, not modern. Candidate kits may have been Revell Tony Nancy dragsters and the M. Thompson Attempt One. The T. Nancy dragster hair pins were too small for me, (BTW very similar in size and appearance to the Revell 32 5 W Coupe) and still in my parts stash bag , so my guess is the Attempt One. I'll have to dig up that kit to check. You know what...I'll bet Tim knows...he has written and sourced parts from just about every dragster/roadster kit released.
  15. I've been debating the color scheme for this '27 T in my head ...what I was sure of...I wanted a dark body/grill color with complementary (opposite) color on the wheels/engine Black is a bit too often used, I like red too, but that is a bit common as well. Been reading Al Drakes book on fifties hot rods, there were purple cars back then, even some on the dry lakes. I thought I maybe a very dark blue/violet metallic with red or maybe yellow orange steelie wheels. After searching the rattle can racks I couldn't find exactly what I wanted....the choices: Tamiya Blue Violet........ value too pale, hue a bit bland light blue, a solid color, a metallic might be better Tamiya Deep Metallic Blue......right value, dark, but hue was too blue, not enough violet Model Master Deep Pearlescent Purple enamel.........dark enough but not exciting Model Master/Rustoleum Ford Ultra Violet Pearl Lacquer.........the right value, dark, and a deep violet hue, and its a fast drying lacquer Made a decision, went with it. Here's what I got. ...parts mocked up, not glued yet. The Tamiya Chrome Yellow is a bit too orange for my liking.....wish they had a lighter yellow in a spray can.
  16. Thanks Tim. Norm is preparing an order for me...need more flathead parts ! I'll check with him.
  17. Did some painting....engine and started the woody sides after masking the fenders and cowl.
  18. Start a build thread !
  19. After gloss black base coat, Alclad applied on the axles, beehive oil filter, generator, hair pins ...next up....the resin valve covers.
  20. Dechromed axles ready for Alclad.....a 15 minute soak in Zep hair clog remover (a liquid plumber) too the chrome off cleanly.
  21. Really nice, classic hot rod PU. BTW - On the blue resin-based '27T Roadster Pickup Project (completed in the 2000's) do you recall the source of those exhaust headers...I like the look. I'm searching for headers - plugged, with dual exhaust train w/ mufflers for street.
  22. Thanks Tim, been reading your articles for years and it's nice to make your acquaintance. Like to see your project. I'm dechroming the front and rear axles this evening to go Alclad II....to match the finish on the other shiny goodies (flathead valve covers etc.). Been perusing fifties resources and will settle on a color combo...kinda like the idea of complementary color between the body/grill and the wheels. Interior will be a pearl white (kinda naugahyde) with black pleated inserts ....black flocking on the floor carpet.
  23. Thanks Bill...I'm a BIG flathead fan.
  24. Tires and wheels are from the Revell Rat Rod PU kit, baby moons re Parts by Parks.
  25. Replicas and Miniatures very nice flathead engine components and Model Car Garage stromberg 97s....
