How focused are your scale modeling interests?
cruz replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Cool topic. I for one would try anything, it kind of breaks the monotony that can sometimes present itself when doing the same old thing. I also think it helps you try a variety of new building methods and techniques which in the long run can make you a better and more versatile modeler. I will still stick with anything automotive, never really cared for any other subject. I have at times thought about doing something with figures, I think it teaches a lot of drybrushing and shading techniques that you can ultimately incorporate into your scale automotive modeling projects. I chose number 3. -
Built myself a Paint Booth

Was this a 1/1 spray booth? I don't think you will have those issues with a scale or smaller type booth... Would you? -
I see you used different tires, smart! The ones in the kit are ######. I am thinking about doing this one next myself, looks like a great kit. Great job!

Very cool as usual!

Great job! And the best thing? You saved a boatload of money on something I am sure will work as well as a 500 dollar unit. Looks like you had some fun building that thing, I sure had fun building mine and it didn't come out as nice as yours! -
Painting can be a pretty tedious process specially when you are going for the perfect paintjob or in my case, when you are a little too picky. I like to lightly mist my first 3 coats, let the paint dry and check for any particles. If all is well, I will continue with slightly heavier or wet coats, let it dry and check again. If I do encounter any dust or particles, I will wetsand and continue painting after I am satisfied. I will do the same thing with the clear if I decide to clear coat. Remember, you get out what you put in.

A lot of the Tamiya gloss spray colors in reality ever need clear coating, they have enough inherent gloss in them. One thing to remember though is to make sure you have enough coats on the body and to keep away from the sharp edges when sanding and polishing.

Thanks Harry, the paint is Tamiya from the can. I place my painted bodies in the dehydrator for 12 hours and then just buff em!!

I built this one about a year ago and just used Tamiya pure white, no clear coat. I wetsanded with 3200 and ended with 12,000 grit, used Maguiar's cleander wax and that's it. White does not photograph well, it's hard to show the gloss but it's there! Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki

Pace spray booths on sale?
cruz replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I know it's a great product and worth every penny but I also think it's over priced. With less than $150 dollars you can make your own and still have a good one. The squirrel cage fan is very important. -
I Can't Paint For Nothin'
cruz replied to Old Sprinter's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
So many ways....So little time... I would advice just 2 things, practice and the mastering of a polishing system. You can have beautiful finishes with a can or an airbrush, the difference is that you will spend less time glossing and smoothing up your finishes with an airbrush vs the can. Lots of great tips on here though, ain't this forum the best one!!! -
Replicas and Miniatures Co. of Maryland carries them, they are very nicely done too! Hosted on Fotki

What's up with no posting?
cruz replied to SuperStockAndy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
When are people going to realize that this is a blessing. To be able to sit in front of a computer and share or see what everyone else is doing, don't you guys think that is fun? Who cares if someone comes in and tries to stir trouble or say what's in his mind? Don't like it? Ignore it, it's that easy, there are hundreds of other threads that are much more interesting than others. I remember when we didn't have forums a few years back, I was always desperate for the next model car magazine to hit the stands so that I could be up to date with what was happening in our hobby. Nowadays, not only do I still purchase the magazines but if I happen to miss an issue, well, I have the forums, isn't that the greatest thing? Probably some people have decided to leave the forum, others might have lost interest and there are probably hundreds of other reasons for people quiting but I look at it this way, it's their loss. When all is said and done, when you are really passionate about this hobby, you will end up in a new place with totally new issues. -
