  1. I've been looking for that retro marked NHP Dodge Charger I mentioned a while back. I found it tonight at the NHP HQ. It is currently parked on the back lot. Due to an accident the full size Dodge is now about 6 feet long. It had been rear ended by a car travelling at about 70mph. They cut the roof off to extract the trooper, who I might add was very freaking lucky. Scary sight. G
  2. I had been sworn in along with 9 others and was waiting for a recruit class to form. My first assignment as a "civilian recruit in training" was in the department photo lab. We had just gotten a color film developer and I was one of the first trained on it. Marvelous piece of kit there. I attribute a lot of my success later in my career to that job. I saw so many crime scenes on film, the first time I stepped into one I was somewhat prepared. That was 35mm film and it was just taking hold in the crime scene community. 4X5 press cameras were the norm. We could take that big azz negative and project it onto the courthouse wall if necessary. Talk about detail. Digital's great, it's just that, as old school as I am, real film is missed. G

  11. When John Paul visited the US in '99, St Louis was one of his stops. His Eminence brought the Pope mobile, the big white one with the glass upper deck. It was easier for him to ride in as it had a chair lift and the old boy's hip was acting up. Well the Secret Service Supervisor had a "better idea" and wanted to transport His Eminence in a Presidential limo procured for the detail. The conversation was a hoot, the Secret Service supervisor was all like "We'll go in this car here". John Paul said, "No". Secret Service supervisor : " Well our plans blah, blah, Blah, Blah, Blah." John Paul said, "No" Secret Service supervisor : Blah Blah Blah! John Paul said, "No" Secret Service supervisor : Now completely befuddled, turns to a SLPD Major and myself for help. We shrug. Major says: " There is no way I am going to tell the Pope what to do". I say: I'm Jewish, not my circus. Pope: winks at us, states in a thick accent " I vill go in my own cahr" Turns and shuffles away toward the Pope mobile. I will NEVER forget that moment. G

  15. Great job so far! How humid was it on the day you first sprayed the Krylon? That is a big factor at times. G
  16. Thank you gentlemen, you to Danno............................ Harry I have quite a few reference books and I do search online quite a bit. The key is knowing the time frame, location and history of the vehicle type itself. Sonderverband 288 (Special Group 288) had been formed and sat on the continent for a bit while the situation in Libya stabilized. These guys were the "specialists" in all things Mid-East, culture and language foremost. The idea was to send them in as the fighting wore down to engage the locals. Kind of like the Nazi version of a Green Beret. Win hearts and minds, Or burn their huts down. Anyway they sat too long and Allied air power sank the ships with most of these aboard in the Mediterranean. So you have four Sturmgeschuetz III D's in Libya as the British begin their push. They weren't active long enough to get beat up. G
  17. This is my take on a StuG III D from Sonderverband 288 in North Africa. Only four of these ever made it across the Mediterranean to Libya. One is currently being restored in England having been captured. It sat in a junk yard for decades. G
  18. Gorgeous! G
