You can use masking tape painted black for the belts and a slightly thicker wire for spark plug boots (slightly thicker than your spark plug wire).

Casey - that area actually won't be that bad. The headlight bezel piece includes the end of the fender top trim which covers the line in the cove fairly well: -
Forming a builder's club
Erik Smith replied to zz383mero's topic in Model Club News and Announcements
I am a fairly new club member in my area. Our club charges a membership fee just to cover some of the incidentals that occur throughout the year - signs for shows, tables, etc. Unless you have somebody willing to pay for everything, then dues are kind of a necessary evil. Also, people will feel more committed to a group they pay "dues" into. We also have a set of bylaws, which I don't necessarily think are necessary, as they spell out rules for inclusion in the club and keeping a current membership - few of the bylaws are actually held up, though. Yes, you can have a free (rules and dues) "club", but that's really more just a monthly gathering. Our attendance fluctuates through the year and I would imagine a loose group of individuals with no dues, no club cohesion, would often see meetings consisting of one or two builders - not really worth the time and effort. I think you can work a pretty good balance between requiring dues and the amount you place members under a set of guidelines, but ultimately, you want people to show up, bring something worthwhile to the meetings, and learn from a larger, hands-on community. Some basic structure (president, treasurer, etc) also helps as members know who to go to for questions, who is going to start and run the meetings - you will need some very basic coordination of club members for displays or hosting shows as well. Our club doesn't host a show, but we do display at Good Guys and other local events - none of which I participated in because of work demands . Hope that gives you some ideas! -
Well, the Gremlin diversion build is close to completion, so I am getting back to this car. 406 so far I have to recast the valve covers - the molds have been sitting so long they were full of dust and debris. Oh, and the balls? Not for this project - eyeball shifter for 1/8 T-Bucket: Body also revived some more primer tonight...
-
Looking at some other Gremlin builds as mine is nearing completion - I remember looking at this build when it was originally posted, but I did not notice the change in the rear window openings. Is that a replica of some version of the Gremlin? Or just a custom touch? Nice work overall, too, just curious about the change in the window opening where the "hockey stick" stripe normally goes.

That is a nice looking build. Great paint. All the Pintos I see are converted to race short track - they are beat beyond belief, but run and run. They must be a good balance of power and weight for the short oval track and inexpensive to keep going.
-
Great looking resto. I am always afraid of buying those pre-1961 (or so) promos - so warped! Yours looks fantastic.

I have always liked that kit, even though mine has stayed in the look-at-it-in-the-box mode for a long time. I like the color choice too. Do you clear over the Tamiya? If so, what clear do you use? Thanks for taking time and creating the storyline to go with the build too - always more interesting than a straight up build!

I am not an expert, but comparing both kits, I would say this is definitely not modified from the 58/9 kits. Too many slight differences - mold lines, ejector pins, etc., in different places. -

I would almost guarantee we will see a resin top coming out shortly. Too much interest to miss that opportunity. -

Oh, that's a poor picture. Exhaust, hood, etc... Here is the 327 - very nicely engraved - I didn't do a parts count, but it will be a stellar looking engine when done - and yes, there is a bracket to hold the generator... Frame - again, quite nice and appears there won't be much clean up...I love the look of built chassis and this one will be cool without the body in place... Interior - nice, nice More engine parts - see the generator bracket? Custom tires - can't tell so much in the photo, but they are two different sizes for front and rear... Stock rubber - sidewall detail is just the line...but they look decent ...and the whole decal sheet. Two sets of gauge faces, underhood details, seat belts (I have never tried decal seat belts), etc. Great decal sheet. -

Okay, so here is the rest of the story... Body - very nicely done, really smooth plastic (good or bad?), The custom wheels - I don't know if we've seen these before? The rest of that sprue - nicely done valve covers More chrome More chrome - nice spinners, separate mirrors and door handles, steering wheel is nice and thin - looks in scale, fragile, though. Front ends and rear - custom front end is lowered, not by much - looks about 1.5" scale inches?... -
New member introduction

Welcome Chris. I visited Brisbane a few years ago - nice city and a great place. Driving a manual transmission on the wrong side of the road through roundabouts at 55mph was a challenge to start, but I got used to it. Nice looking model too! -

I purchased this kit today. Overall it is nice. It seems to be not as crisp as other new releases - could just be my attitude right now too. Anyhow: Mild line dissecting fuel door - a little askew The mold line up front - good luck Bits of flash and a couple not-so-well planned small parts - side mirror and door handle (sprue attaches on door handle button) Actually looks a little worse in person I am not sure I like this wheel mounting method The "brakes" Lots of ejector pin marks on interior - may be a no factor depending on seats, etc The decal sheet is nice - lots of small details AND a replacement for the script you will sand off the front It's a nice kit. I am just being Debbie Downer and pointing out some things that are not like 90 percent of the rest of the kit. I will more than likely get another and wait patiently for that resin hardtop.... -

What Do You Think was the Worst Car Made?
Erik Smith replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Oh, forgot - 1985 Dodge D-50 - similar deal with aluminum head and intake manifold - heat up and crack. I was fortunate to find a replacement manifold laying in the mud at the junk yard. Automatic hubs would also engage at highway speed at random times. Oil pump went out too. -
I started working on this list about a year ago and have a pretty good number of kits listed now. I thought I would post for those interested. If you see any glaring omissions, just let me know. I kept the list to the era(s) I prefer and most of the kits are available somewhere - albeit for a price. Also, if anybody has pics or reviews (mostly the resin side), send me PM or post away. What Do You Think was the Worst Car Made?
Erik Smith replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Threads like this inevitably lead to confusion between "cars I hate" (which may or may not be objective based on experience, but is generally subjective) and cars that really are bad cars - in the sense that they were extremely unreliable or suffered serious handling and performance problems. You really can't argue that the Yugo was a good car. Reliability, handling etc. were way subpar for even an eco-box. I see one on a route I walk frequently and I am excited at least one person is diligent and stubborn enough to keep one running. As far as my own personal experience, the worst car I have owned was a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Engine and transmission gone before 90,000 - in addition to constant electrical problems from the day I got it. My family purchased a 1974 Dasher brand new and that car had so many unsolvable problems it was unbelievable. They were so random and episodic that the techs could never figure anything out - but they charged us just the same. One day the car wouldn't start. Wait a few hours and it would. It would die and start up again or not, depending on the alignment of some foreign celestial body. My wife had a 1978 Audi, same deal. The shop could work on that thing for a week and never solve a single problem. My 2000 Subaru blew both head gaskets - 8 months past the recall date. The best? Well, somebody can start another thread... -
