Who doesn't love a mock-up? Let's see yours!
redscampi replied to Belairconvertable's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Both of them look great. I particularly like the sedan. Where did you get the rims? -

Nicely done, Tom! In retrospect, this might have been cleaner, at least for me. I love the use of the bed to build that rat rod. The great thing about plastic is that...it's plastic! -

Anyhow, here is my repair so far. I used thin sheets of styrene and built it up to a little over the thickness I needed. Sanded and filed on it for a bit to shape it. I'm not totally mad at it. Needs some finesse which I'm not sure I'm capable of. I shot some primer to see where I was working better. Comments and suggestions welcome. -

That would work, but as I'm not set up to do resin I think it'd be a lot cheaper to sacrifice a cheap-ish kit. On the other hand I do want to try making some of my own stuff...:) -

Thanks Mark! I knew someone with more knowledge would chime in. -
Years ago friends of ours honeymooned in Cancun. One night they ordered pizza via room service. The "pepperoni" was slices of hot dogs.

Where did you find that? We have a Hunt Brothers place right down the road. Those are pretty terrible for what you pay.

Anyone know who made this?

There's actually a brand new one on eBay US for $47.50. I added it to my favorites and the seller sent a pretty reasonable offer of $42.75. Shipping to me is about $15.00. I just don't need another one. -
Ugh. That's just ridiculous. Maybe you counted fast. Is that even a thing? A lot of police officers seem to really relish pushing people around. There is a reason they have the reputation they do.

Yeah, I get those buggers in my yard occasionally too. Some folks may feel shooting them is extreme, but out in the sticks they're a real nuisance. I use a Taurus Judge with .410 shot shells to dispatch them.

Has anyone seen these stickers on the side of a model kit before? I'm curious as to their function and if they can be redeemed like S&H Green Stamps.

Here's an interesting aside - at least to me. I began disassembly of this car for repair. After removing the interior I was greeted by this. There are unused headlights still attached to the window frame. Score! -

The lengths we will sometimes go to to save a kit is a bit crazy. But it feels great to successfully repair something like this. -

Yep, and this is what I'm doing. Although I'm using thin sheets of plastic so I can add some shape, then sandwiching new layers on. Probably 4 layers or so and some body filler. After that I can see about restoring the drip rail and trim. -

Very helpful and informative guys. Thank you. I’m not exactly sure what I will end up doing with this. It seems pretty fiddly for my fat fingers and deteriorating eyesight. The crazy thing is that all of these little bits were randomly strewn through several kit boxes and containers when I got them. I spent a fair amount of time sifting through the boxes and it took awhile for me to realize I had an almost complete chassis kit. I’ll try to mock it up but at this point i don’t even know what all the parts are. It’d be nice to have the instructions. I did find one image of an assembled kit. I’ll look more when I get some time. Might be awhile. ‘Tis the season you know. ? Thanks again! -
A slightly more accurate Grumpy's 66 nova

Purty darn nice work there! -
I found this hot rod frame in the bottom of a large box of models I bought at a swap meet around a decade ago. I put it away and just ran across it again. These are all of the parts I have. It appears to be made of cast white metal and is 1/25 or 1/24 scale. Any ideas?

One thing to think about on the grill is that usually glue doesn't stick well to the plating or paint. You may be able to flake some or all of it off. Assuming you're going to replate or paint the grill you can also toss it in the purple pond which will remove the paint and plating and may loosen or soften the glue as well. Hope you can save it!

Ollie's strike again
redscampi replied to GLMFAA1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I finally visited an Ollie's about an hour away from me because my wife had an appointment and left me with some time to kill. Although I bought 3 of the Monogram "made for Ollie's" kits (the 57 Nomad, 56 Chevy and 32 Ford Street Rod), I never need to visit that place again. The cashier was surly and the entire place was filthy and reeked of desperation. -
I weaned myself from network tv long ago. Now I can't stand the incessant yammering. If Youtube doesn't stop messing around I'm going to leave them high and dry too. My sympathies to all the streamers that make their living from Youtube, but I'm not going to watch commercials. I've had a lifetime's worth of them.
