  1. This inspired me to go hunting for a Jeepster kit. These have always been fascinating to me although in real life they're clunky and old fashioned. Anyway, what I ended up with is an MPC Mount'n Goat. I watched the HPI Guy review and decided it would scratch the itch! Not the best front end on these, but if it's good enough for Freiberger...
  2. I understand everything you said. Won't argue any of it. The Model Car Mob article as created way back when life was somewhat simpler, is definitely a dopey list, and intended for no other purpose. I was just wishing it could remain as such without too much wrangling. The kids it was intended for (us) would not have taken it for any more than an attempt at humor. Our internet age selves are not as much fun as we used to be, and I, for one, appreciate the intentional mindless amusement of this topic.
  3. Yup, please. We tend to beat the stuffing out of some topics and inevitably someone gets upset. I was really enjoying the first part of this thread but it's losing focus rapidly.
  4. I seem to be all over the place, but not just in this hobby. Seems to be the story of my life. My wife has "diagnosed" me with ADD. On some of these kits though - it's very hard to start a build because, well, you know, they're only new once. When I get a kit like this my instinct is to go look for a builder rather than break into a new kit. Kinda dumb, I know. I have delusions that my kids will someday be able to sell off my horde of stuff for profit, and a new kit is worth more than a built up any day...except on eBay apparently...
  5. Thanks, I am glad to have it. I am not sure when I'll begin the build. I have plenty to do now, starting another would be...imprudent. But, as they say, "Anything worth doing is worth overdoing!"
  6. Thanks all for the comments. Based on what I've learned so far I do believe now that the 56 I have is an original. You are correct sir. I poked around the bag a bit and discovered that there is a smaller bag inside with the tires in it, along with can only be described as red goo...
  7. I hope this is in the right place. As the title states, I'm curious what the undisturbed contents of the kits might have looked like from different manufacturers. I have a 1976 Revell Corvette (H-1203) that has thin brown paper wrappings, not sure if it's original or not. I also just acquired a 1963 Revell '56 Ford Pickup kit (H-1283). The entire kit is in a sealed clear plastic bag inside the box, instructions and all. I'm not at all sure it would have bee packed that way in 1963. So that got me thinking about how the kits may have been originally packed. I was only 3 in 1963 so too young to know this info first hand. I'm certain some of you have undisturbed kits from those days - any thoughts?
  8. I just got a Bathtub Buggy from a trade with a great member, so now I'm subscribed.

    The Invader

    Immaculate!
  10. I had a package last week that had arrived in Austin, typically the last stop before I get it next day. That night, for some inexplicable reason, the postal service sent it to Baton Rouge, Louisiana for an overnight jaunt. This week they sent a package to a relatively nearby town - 2 hours away - that has a similar sounding name to my town, sort of. I watched the progress and assumed it would be delayed a day as well, but they somehow hoofed it over to me by dinner time, so that was nice as well as sort of entertaining.
  11. Really interesting! Never heard of the show or seen the kit. You did it justice for sure.
  12. Thanks Carl! The Beer Wagon was one of my early builds as a kid. I hope to rebuild this one and do it justice this time. The Tijuana Taxi is one that I always wanted but somehow never got. The Dog Catcher was a bonus. I don't remember even knowing about this kit, but it's cool! PM will be on the way shortly.
  13. Only to find that it never shows up and prices keep climbing elsewhere...
  14. there is some true craftsmanship in that car. It's also massive! Well done!
  15. These three built ups just arrived today from eBay. There are some broken and missing pieces but I'll be making modifications anyway.
  16. She's a real beauty! Also top notch photo skills.
  17. Gorgeous!
  18. Actually, the 46, 47 and 48 models. The 42 grill would be a welcome addition. The eBay prices are nuts for sure but I've managed to snag the Aerosedan and the sedan delivery versions both for decent prices on eBay. I got the woodie version from the Galaxie Limited website for retail some time last year. I believe they're closed for business now though. I'm wanting to grab the coupe version too, but the prices are way too high at the moment. Incedentally, nice start on the kit! I'll be following as I had a real 48 Aerosedan that I was building into a hot rod, however life got in the way..
  19. It will be fun to watch a vintage kit go together. I wonder if you could paint the stripe on the wheels/tires with drill clamped in a vise and using a thin paint marker, or maybe even pinstripe paint with an appropriate brush?
  20. Outstanding! I love that you went with the white. I've got one of these waiting for someday...
  21. I'm not sure, but I doubt they exist in scale. You may need to scan an image and reduce it, then print on decal paper.
  22. It won't get "cold" here until next week. All 80 degrees plus this week, but raining (finally!) Next week is in the 50's...but I don't really care for cold weather or snow. Shoveled too much of that stuff over the years.
