Another 1996 Chevrolet C3500
redscampi replied to Chuck Most's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
What? No rust or dings on the junk in the bed? No hard water stains on the toilet? No patina on the Coke machine? No miles on those kegs? Looks a bit like Larry robbed a department store! Just kidding with you, the truck looks fantastic, right down to the broken fiberglass fender. -
Ahh, good to know. Thanks, Chuck. I assumed that Easy-Build was a euphemism for Snap-Tite.

Yeah, it was a disappointment, but it's a kit I "need".

Picked up these two. I'm not really a snap-tite guy, so these will both get full chassis, engine, etc. The Short box is to replicate a truck I had about 20 years ago, a 96 Z71 4X4. Mt truck was the same emerald green metallic, but I was surprised that it's actually molded in white - a good thing. I do need a canopy for the build if anyone knows where to find one. The C3500 will get slammed - I love that look but usually folks install ridiculous rims with rubber bands for tires and airbags these days. I'm old school - static drop and some beefy rolling stock.

Welcome! I spend a lot of time "creeping". I just don't always have something useful to say. You know the saying, "Keep silent and be thought a fool. Open your mouth and remove all doubt".

Beautiful paint. Henry's original paint was likely not as nice.

If I understand what you are saying, there are a couple resin grills for the older style van on ebay. They look pretty good to my untrained eye.

Interesting! It will definitely improve the appearance from the front. Thanks for the pics.

Out of curiosity can the early grill be made to fit the 82 van? If so, I'm on board!

Although my building skills are a long way off of Steve's, this is where I'm at. Out of box builds hold no particular interest, and adding or refining details satisfies my creative needs much more. Making something cool out of a fiddly kit is lots of fun, even if it takes me forever. After all, I'm much more mature...(ok, maybe chronologically speaking)...so, shouldn't my builds reflect that?

I couldn't resist the impulse to grab one of these 1/12 Bugatti kits from Amazon. Even shipped internationally It was almost $100 less than a lot of the shops are carrying it for. It was just about the cost of 4 1/25 kits at full retail, but it'll keep me busy for a long time. I like it so much that I immediately ordered the Alfa 8C 2300 Monza kit. I probably won't be happy until I have all their vintage racers. *sigh*

Nice! Clever photography.

In my experience, it takes patience, practice and repetition. You may have to work the same area multiple times. A variety of tools may be required in some spots. If you can, practice on some junk bodies and parts to get a feel for it. Treat every part of the kit as a model by itself. When you are happy with that piece, go on to the next. Rushing through any section will give you less than desirable results. Mostly, have fun!

Great replica from a great cult movie!

Spotlight Hobbies shows they have the Aerosedan in stock for a reasonable price still. https://www.spotlighthobbies.com/manufacturer/galaxie/ And HobbyModels, which I've not bought from have it for a better price: https://hobbymodels.com/collections/galaxie-limited And even cheaper at Strike Force Hobbies: https://www.strikeforcehobbies.com/product2266.html Again, no experience with this vendor.

Is this a gloss clear coat?

That actually looks...kinda cool. Like a sun-baked interior. -

Nicely built paper model! Had to look closely. -
Maybe try Goo Gone. Just a dab. Anything you do is likely to have some kind of impact on the artwork especially if you use any friction. I'd definitely try it out in a hidden spot first if you can, or on something that you don't highly value. If it's very valuable you might consider having a professional repair: https://www.randystoyshop.com/box-repair/ I've removed some pretty ugly stuff from boxes with varying degrees of success. Fingernails, plastic scalpels, Goo Gone (usually for tape residue), Windex, dish soap, magic eraser, etc. It's a trial and error process.
