Specifically I need tail lights, all glass and grille. Might be interested in other parts and/or parts vehicles too. Have stuff to trade!

It's 15F here this morning in the middle of Texas. But that's ok, it'll be a balmy 21F by late afternoon and then the freezing rain starts...:(

Safety in the 50's
redscampi replied to TarheelRick's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I love those little cars but I would never drive one, physics being what they are. That being said, all the seat belts in our cars growing up were mashed between the seat cushions with the spilled food and gum. You didn't put your hand in there if you knew what was good for you! -
I really like this model. Very realistic. Is the tilt plate for gas filler access a part of the kit or did you add that? A really nice detail either way. I have a couple of these in my stash I bought years ago. Will have to take a closer look!

Safety in the 50's
redscampi replied to TarheelRick's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
In about 1980 I wrecked my 69 Grand Prix. I ended up buying a 1962 Falcon 2 door post car from a friend for $100. Had to tow it home because it had a window in the side of the block you could see daylight through. We stripped the motor in my rental driveway and my friend and I lifted the bad block out by hand with no hoist. Set the new block in the same way. Maybe that's why my back hurts all the time now... -
Very nice! That color pops! With all the great Willys builds going on I'm itching to crack into one myself.

Restomod '57 Chevy Cameo pickup

Nicely done! I'd drive it! -
Great build. Weirdly I was impressed most by the blank grey tv screen. Very convincing. The color looks just like the old CRTs.

Thanks for your advice and insight on these. I really am warming up to both of them. Not being a purist I won’t mind swapping in something better in the motor department.

That's a real shame. Maybe the body is worth using in a junkyard diorama?

Prewired 8cyl distributor install
redscampi replied to CA Whitecloud's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've no direct experience with these, but I'd say drill an appropriately sized hole in the place you want the distributor and glue it in. Looks like you may have to remove the kit distributor to do that. -
That is sweet! I recently acquired a couple of Buttera junk kits myself. I don't know what your experience was, but I found the plastic on mine to be extremely brittle. You did a great job on this one.

Got these two Vettes. I love Corvettes but for some reason models of them seem a bit blah to me. Maybe because there are so many of them. Mustangs have the same effect on me. I grabbed these to see if I can shake the Corvette malaise.

I'm not a native. I'm a transplant from the northwest. I did my time in the constant rain and drizzle. Now I get to enjoy most winter days in the sun. Today it's 73 but it's gonna drop into the freezing range tonight and be in the lower teens by Monday night. But, it won't last long which is the way I like my winters. And yes, most people are amazingly friendly.

How to soften older kit tires
redscampi replied to Chevy II's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I’m curious if when they cool they are harder than were going in to the microwave. I mean, it works like that on food? -
How to soften older kit tires

This is good advice. I’ve used this method with success. Definitely works on Pocher tires. -
What would a car modelers Hades be like:
redscampi replied to GLMFAA1's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Hundreds of kits in the stash and no way in Hades to ever build them all...:) -
I've had some success using hot water dips alternating with cold for resin but I've never tried on a primered part before. I hope you can save this. If not, I guess there is always the kit body...

Got this 510 yesterday. One of my needful things cars. The body parts were badly painted but they're out of the pond and came out perfect. Kit is otherwise mint inside the box. The other kits I just won early this morning. I had been watching these for a week or so and the seller finally sent an offer I couldn't refuse. What worked out to $16 each shipped was too good a deal for me to pass on. Seller stated that he didn't know if any were complete, but they look pretty close to me. Will inventory when they arrive. I realize they're not the most desirable but they are all early issues, 60's and 70s kits and this sure beats a trip to Ollies or Walmart to pick over the leavings.

I really dig that Celica. I wanted one of those 1:1 in the worst way. That, and the 80s Celica Supra and the Mitsubishi Starion...I could go on...

Watching with interest! I enjoyed your video on the differences between this and the earlier kit, which I have in my stash. It's sealed and may stay that way now...:)
