What Did You See In Your Yard Today?
redscampi replied to Tim W. SoCal's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I was in the attic yesterday morning and kept hearing a little bleating noise. There are sheep in the pasture behind us, so I didn't really pay attention too much. But then a bit later I walked out to the trash can and saw this little guy that had been abandoned by his mother. He was filthy and skin and bones and the herd had left him behind. Some of them have been having twins and even triplets, so some don't get to nurse. I don't think this one was going to survive. Anyway, we now have a new pet...He's cleaned up a bit here and had something to drink. -
Who doesn't love a mock-up? Let's see yours!

I've been way too busy with other stuff lately but here's something I threw together to get the juices flowing again. This a is a glue bomb rescue with parts box wheels at the moment. Sort of a blank canvas. Thoughts? -
Awesome build! Stance is spot on and I love the two tone.

Someone once pointed out to me that a car in primer was full of potential. Anyone can visualize their dreams on a blank slate. Once you paint it - it's yours. You'll get the whole gamut of reactions from love to hate. Not to mention that if your tastes are a bit off the beaten track, the car can be much more difficult to sell because the color can be off-putting to some. But we were talking about model cars, right?

A hot rod 34 Ford

Man, this one has got "the look"! Great, clean looking build and I'm happy to see I'm not the only slow builder. -

Love this! Great weathering and execution. -
AMT '37 chevy headers
redscampi replied to Mattblack's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Just a little humor. A lot of the prefabricated headers made for specific applications do not fit very well and I've seen lots of dimpled headers in otherwise nice cars. Personally I think it's a short cut and looks like one most of the time. -
AMT '37 chevy headers
redscampi replied to Mattblack's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yep, get out the ball peen hammer and start wailing on those brand new ceramic coated, high buck pipes. Hurts every time, but seems necessary almost every time when your building hot rods. Not Chevy and not mine...:) -
Haha! I hadn't noticed that. Weird...

Is the Scale Motorcars Forum now defunct?
redscampi replied to Bugatti Fan's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I found this message on the Wayback Machine site, posted on May 18th of this year. That's the last activity to date. Message from the Admin SMC is temporarily closed until I can find a solution for the constant DDOS attacks. The site needs to move to a different host but its not something I can afford right now. Sorry for the inconvenience -
I hope things are going smoothly and your project is completed in a timely fashion!

Our local Central Texas paper must have interns working overnight. Often the stories they post have glaring omissions for context, location, etc., not to mention the nonsense sentences. I've gotten to where I just snicker a bit and move on. I realized very early in school that we were not all going to be spelling or grammar champions. I just struggle with how some of those folks ended up working in areas where "words mean things".

Very nice! What is the scale? -
I like a very few. Started with Roadkill and Roadkill Garage. I like the folks with a lot of personality that are entertaining to watch, even if they are hacks (intentionally or not). Content can be secondary. Gotta say, though, that I'm getting tired of the format. Feed the algorithm! Buy a T-shirt! Like and Subscribe! And now they're all sponsored and have to tell you about it ad-nauseam. Between that and Youtube starting to force commercials down our throats, I've really dropped off watching. To be honest, I have other stuff to do.

Really great coupe! Sedan is great too! I happen to also be working on a couple of 37 sedan glue bombs right now.

The Official EBay Discussion Thread

Good deal! I used to do this but it does get old and is frustrating when you miss out on something you want. Now I use a free sniping service with my highest bid and have a good night's sleep. -
Love it! I've got a 61 Falcon promo in much the same shape. Luckily There is the AMT 61 Ranchero kit for a donor...

Rebuilt '90s Chevy pickup
redscampi replied to Can-Con's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
...dang near! Nice looking rig. Takes me right back a few decades, thumbing through those magazines and dreaming of the possibilities. -
I think the main reason for this is that the old fogeys like us are the ones with disposable income. Companies have to chase the dollars in order to stay in business, at least short term. I mean a single average kit is around thirty bucks. Also, younger generations are focused on social media and have incredibly short attention spans. Nowhere near long enough to actually spend the time creating something like a model car kit. Sadly, I just don't think most of the big model manufacturers will survive the demise of our generation.

1978 Dodge Truck
redscampi replied to jdhog's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Not my first choice either, however, everyone has different tastes. I'm old enough to think 15's are great because I like the bigger sidewalls and the ride quality is superior to the big hoops. I really lost interest when wheels became more of a fashion statement and actually degraded performance in some aspects. Here is my 67 Lemans with "age appropriate" wheels. In my opinion, of course.
