1969 camaro street/strip machine......off to the paint booth!!
Jeff Sauber replied to Jeff Sauber's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Here's the final mockup update.... Things seem to be fitting together pretty well, so it's off to the paint booth this week, thus ending the last of the updates for a while. I have another project to get back to, as this one will be drying for the next several weeks. I sourced a set of hood hinges from my parts box that I'll either detail with photoetch, or I'll cut them apart and and make them functional... The air cleaner is the 14" Edelbrock version from Pro Tech, I had to modify it a bit to fit around the extra Carb details I added, but it clears the hood/cowl panel and can be removed for better detail display... -

Romell/Aftashox made some good suggestions...I use spray cans all the time and heating the cans in some hot water thins out the paint a bit and helps it lay down a little smoother.. You can also try using a polishing kit which is basically an assortmant of sanding cloths ranging from generally 3200 all the way up to 12000 grits. Detail master for instance offers one that I use all the time. It's a little tedious getting used to working with, but once you get comfortable with the process, it'll really bring out the shine. You basically start with the lowest grit needed depending on amount of orange peel and other surface imperfections, and then slowly work your way up to the 12000 grit. You can then use a good quality wax such as Meguiars to finish out the process. Be sure to watch polishing around corners and edges because you can polish right through the paint if you're too heavy handed...It takes a little getting used to, but it's well worth the effort in the end. -

With the inner fenders cut out on the '57 like that, you could run some cool fenderwell headers to fill things in a bit... Also, Do you plan on decaling the stock car? You may want to try and polish out the paint a bit, so the decals will lay down and adhere a little better...otherwise you may get some "silvering" around the edges of the decals.....[poor adhesion]......Cool projects, keep the updates comming. -
Nice work, I like the engine bay detailing. Sinister looking Goat.......Like something from Mad Max, only with a modern engine setup.
-
Good lookin fairlane....Reminds me of hanging out at the local burger joint back in '86 for the friday night criuses/stoplight races.. There was guy who had one like this, except it was white with blue stripes and had a tunnel ram intake instead of a blower.

Nick, this is one of your best efforts so far. Very cool.... If you can try and learn to polish a little paint, use and trim BMF, and apply a little less glue to some of the parts, you'll be on your way to really improving your builds....There's definitely some good progress here. Two thumbs up!!

Thanks so much for the kind comments, I really appreciate it.. Looks like I have caught some sort of sinus infection/chest cold or the like, so I haven't been at the bench much the last 2 days, but I'll get some updates as soon as I feel a bit better. I don't like to work much when I'm sick, I tend to get clumsy and sloppy.. -
Well folks, I'll be over on Mark's tutorial page later tonight. Remember, to try and clean up after the bar-room brawling is done. I hate to come back here and not have anywhere to sit because you guys busted up all the tables and chairs. PS, don't forget to tip your favorite bartenders Gregg, Harry, and Pat....Cheers!!
-
well, I just thought I'd offer em to you...Things get kinda scary when the beer bottles start flying around, and all the tables to duck under have been spoken for.... By the way Nick, I'm getting ready to get started on the body work with that Camaro project I've been working. I'm going to be using Mark's methods to prep it for paint and such and I want you to see how taking the time to follow along closely with the tutorial can yeild professional results. Mark has touched base on alot of great stuff...[some of which even I have forgotten about]..This is a great chance to get back to basics....I hope you're doing the same.

That must be the new secret "E-thugging" forum code... I'll have to quickly brush up to date on my "E-slang" terms.... Sorry, I must be slacking with all this Bench time I've been putting in. Darn models, they always distract me from what's really important here.....

Hey wait a sec..........thats not a fair fight!! A ball bat VS a gun?........ Where the hell is that Ref when we need him?
-
I have an extra pair of Kid Gloves for this thread....Would you like to borrow them? Otherwise Harry/Pat/Gregg are going to have to get out the broom and dust pans, [as per usual] to sweep up all the broken china and glass getting thrown about the place.
-
Glad we have a Ref keeping score..... Guess this means I can't hit to the back of the head, or land soccer kicks to the face on a grounded opponent.
-
No.... just heard it on the radio, and it kinda reminds me of the confusion raining down on these threads at times.. I also like the guitar progressions.....Respect the classics, man.

Long as I remember The rain been comin' down. Clouds of myst'ry pourin' Confusion on the ground. Good men through the ages, Tryin' to find the sun; And I wonder, Still I wonder, Who'll stop the rain. I went down Virginia, Seekin' shelter from the storm. Caught up in the fable, I watched the tower grow. Five year plans and new deals, Wrapped in golden chains. And I wonder, Still I wonder Who'll stop the rain. Heard the singers playin', How we cheered for more. The crowd had rushed together, Tryin' to keep warm. Still the rain kept pourin', Fallin' on my ears. And I wonder, Still I wonder Who'll stop the rain. The only problems I know of are with body accuracy....I haven't heard about any assembly issues...From what I know/heard, they seem to build up fairly well. Never touched one myself though....I'd be interested to give one a shot when I get around to it. -

Here's the finished interior bucket... Now on to the bodywork/paint, and final assembly. -
This is a sharp looking project. The '64 Goat is my favorite year. I like what you're doing with all the extra detailing...

Thanks, I enjoy doing interiors and don't mind the extra detailing, it's ashame however that alot of the work will be hidden in the finished model. On some projects I'll just go and open up the doors, that way you have a better view of what's inside....although cutting and hinging things can really add on to the work load. For this project, I wanted to get some good detailing done, but at the same time, keep things moving at a fairly quick pace. I have several other really involved projects to get back to as soon as this one is wrapped up. This one here is sort of my "vacation" project from the other crazy stuff I do.... -

I never had the console option. Originally, my car was a column shift 2 speed power glide/307....LOL....[Granny car].. Then after the BBC/muncie swap, I added in the "short throw" hurst shifter, and one of those cheesy $8.00 fire extinguishers between the seats. I may scratchbuild that little fire bottle and add it in just for old times sake. I'll also scratchbuild a set of speaker grills for the package tray. Other than those remaining things, the interior is pretty much how it looked on my 1:1. The floor mats were those cheap black rubber "diamond plate" sets you could buy from the old Trak-Auto stores...[before they became Advance auto]. I had some vinyl material here that looks real close to those patterns on the old mats that I cut and fitted into place. -
Nice work!! looks real clean...

Got the basic interior panels together...Still have a few more things to add in, but things are getting there. It's ashame the cool PE pedals are not easilly viewed in the finished car, but here they are by themselves...More to come. -
Beautiful work, very very nice!! Great photos as well. Thanks for sharing.

The hood pin kit is from detail master.....except I used chrome thread instead of wire for the lanyards.. The thread is alot more flexible than wire, and it also won't scratch and scuff the paint up each time I open and close the hood. The wire also tends to kink and bend up real bad, and look unrealistic.

Nice work, I really like the white buick
