I kept expecting Juan Pablo to wreck his way to the front like he would in a NA$###### race... -
First and foremost you should buy a respirator. You will need a moisture trap. Depending on what ind of paints you use will determine what thinners to get. The square Testors are fine but you will need to thin them a good bit...to the consistancy of milk or so. Don't buy the Testors Airbrush thinner...mineral spirits will work fine. If you want to use the factory correct lacquers then you will need to get some lacquer thinner.

Well if you're only gonna get one done then it might as well be something cool! Great idea and execution!

Thanks for the kind words guys...here's a link to more pics of the GSX http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=10088 The decals are from the kit, paint is Tamiya Pure White and Matte black. Randy, I wasn't aware that the GSX made a contest annual...I remember it getting photographed but I've had lots of builds photographed and not make it in...now I guess I'll have to buy the magazine!

Hard to pick a favorite from those great builds...maybe the Impala...maybe the Charger....they're all awesome!

Not a very productive year for me...oh well. Only got three done, and I only have one of those in my possession! First one done was the '70 Buick...pretty much right out of the box. Then came the '37 Ford. Some guy named Lyle bought it when I put it up for our clubs auction. Guess he needed parts... Lastly there was the '70 Mustang that was sent to Gary66 in NC...I got a very nice Mustang from him in return! That was it...I did build an engine for one community build and painted a Nova body for another community build. Hopefully '09 will be more productive.

All great builds Lyle!

How to on Detail Master Carb Linkage?
Andy Wyatt replied to VictorSmalls's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
By no means an experst, what I usually do is find some good photo reference and then instaed of trying to get it absolutely dead on correct (because in my case that will never happen)...I just get the general look of the linkage and cable and return spring. I drill a small hole in the side of the carb and use a small piece of wire and a plastic spacer between the carb and linkage and pin it all together with a tiny drop of superglue. I then strip the insulation off 30awg wrapping wire and use that wire for the linkage cable hooking one end into the linkage and running it back to the firewall. I use stranded 26awg communications wire, pulling a single strand (about two times as thick as hair), wrap it about a dozen times around a small drill bit shank and use that as a return spring. Looks o.k. from about 4 ft.... -
I use the red and blue over fittings painted aluminum to give them the anodized look. Use the red and orange for turn signals/side markers. The black is a perfect touch-up on parts that were painted with Krylon Semi Flat black as well. Heck...you can even write with them! As soon as I'm done with a kit any spare parts get put into a sealable sandwich bag and with a Sharpie I will write the kit and scale on it.

Revell Discontinuing NASCAR Model Kits
Andy Wyatt replied to larrygre's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I haven't built any NA$###### in some time now...I have kits and decals to do a couple dozen different Terry Labonte cars and no real desire to do any of them. As far as the C.O.T. is concerned...buy a Fast and Furious Mitsubishi tuner kit, slap some fluorescent #24's on it, add a window net...and there ya have it...C.O.T. I think Revell did the right thing...it sucks for the guys who still think todays NA$CAR is worthwhile, but enough is enough. -
