  1. Hey Milt...by no means am I the paint expert around here by I think I can get ya started. When you use HOK or nail polish you will need to use a good primer under it. Duplicolor, Plastikote both work well. Thinning these paints and nail polishes needs to be done with lacquer thinner. Ask 15 people here what brand and you'll get 15 different answers. I use the stuff they sell at AutoZone and it has worked fine for me. You'll want to get the paint to about the consistancy of milk. That will mean adding a lot of thinner to the nail polish. Also with nail polish yu'll definitely want to strain it before you spray it...there will be lumps. Air pressure and distance from the body will all depend on how thin you have your paint and your airbrush itself. I usually spray at around 20 psi...maybe backing down a pound or two for my final coat. All of this will become clear, as you said yourself, with lots of practice. I'm sure others will chime in and be of more help as well. Good luck!
  2. Great pics Dan! Quite a crowd we had today!
  3. Since Jeff, Bill, Cruz and Lyle always have their builds on the same table as mine at club meetings and shows I might as well feel inferior here as well...My fave I guess would have to be this '40 Ford street rod. Has HOK Candy Scarlet over a gold base with no clear. Has some Reps and Mins of MD engine parts and dashboard. Cut my own taillights in the fenders. Wheels are from the Tom Danies Cabriolet kit.
  4. I log on and there on the homepage is the new cover of the magazine. Mark Hadley?! They'll put any ol' riff raff on the cover ! Just kidding...glad to see Sparky get some "props". Of course his head will get 9 sizes bigger and he'll try to tell everyone they should be building off road stuff instead of street rods or muscle cars. He won't be fit to be around in the chats anymore either...not that he was really fit to be around anyway! That's okay...again I'm glad to see Mark get a cover and write up. He deserves it. Actually...I taught him everying he knows ( except his knowledge of battery installation! ).
  5. Everything Lyle builds is cool! Hard to pick a favorite from that bunch, but the boat tail and the '40 Ford are probably the ones I'd pick if I had to! Can't wait to see what Lyle turns out in '08!
  6. That is very cool! Tell him to keep up the great work! I remember when I was about his age I built the Aurora Prehistoric Scenes kits...the Wooly Mammoth and the Saber-toothed Tiger and the cavemen...might have to get me one of those Tamiya dino kits!
  7. Only got one kit, from a girl at work...a Tamiya Toyota Celica. Not exactly my thing but I'll build it. Also got a big coffee table-sized book on Hammer Studios ( I can't get enough Hammer horror!) and a Hammer dvd. Some tools and other stuff. My oldest son was saving his money for an electric guitar which we bought him so he spent his money on a new IPod and I got his old one. It only holds 500 songs so he had to upgrade. I didn't even know there were 500 songs! His new one holds like 16,000.
  8. Here's a link to the MAMA website...scroll down and click on "sponsors" where there will be contact info and pics of Norms stuff. http://www.mamasboyz.org/
  9. That turned out great MJ! Very nice!
  10. I've seen some pics posted here and I wonder how they get them to come out so nice. I haven't had any luck taking decent indoor pics. For me the best lighting is natural outdoor lighting, preferably an overcast day. I try to set up my piece of plywood painted black so I get a solid background (usually grass in my yard).
  11. Nice build! Love the color!
  12. I met Matt Trotta several years ago when he brought his '51 Chevy down to Mid Atlantic NNL...I was very impressed and have always looked forward to seeing his builds. Not only a great builder Matt is a nice guy too!
  13. Right back at ya Cruz! Happy Holidays to you and to everyone here!
  14. I agree with Dave Lindsay...combine station wagons and sedan deliveries, call the theme long roofs...and my second choice would be fat fenders!
  15. Anything by Bill Geary. If I had to pick a favorite of Bills I'd pick the '69 Daytona Charger only because it was the first of his I saw in person. I'm quite lucky to be located in a hotbed of great talent from Pennsylvania and Maryland. Bill Geary, Lyle Willits, Irv Arter among many others (yeah you too Jeff Sauber ). I've also been to one NNL East where I had the good fortune to meet many great modelers and see their work. Ken Hamiltons camper diorama was amazing to see. I also like anything built by Matt Trotta. Everything else I could mention I have just seen photographs of online...guys like Steve Boutte, Christopher Roldan....way too many to list.
  16. Looks so nice he had to post it twice! LOL! Looks great as always Irv!
  17. Don't know what to say that hasn't already been said...very sharp! I guess I'll have to go to Michaels and fight the holiday crowds to get some embossing powder stuff!
  18. Old skool Cool!
  19. Great pics as usual Lyle. Great meeting...pizza, new members, Toys for Tots...doesn't get much better. I think that is Lyle's handywork Tom...hopefully a master for Norm at Reps and Mins!
  20. That turned out pretty nice! The pics don't do it justice. Nice job on the weathering...very cool!
  21. My son is saving up to upgrade his Ipod...his only holds 800 or so songs ( I didn't even know there were 800 songs!)...so I will purchase his after Christmas and I can get rid of the P.O.S. Sansdisk thingy I have. Sometimes I'll just listen to the t.v. while I'm modeling but when the kids are playting video games I have to have something to cover up that...the background music for those video games drive me nuts. I listen to mostly metal with some hardcore punk, classic rock and even some classical thrown in. Pantera, System of a Down, Slayer, Black Sabbath, Motorhead, Prrimus, Scorpions, UFO, Tank are a few of my faves.
  22. CSC seems to work best when it is in a covered container...I think it loses it's kick if left open. It can be reused, just strain the larger chunks of old paint off and put in a sealed container for next time. Make sure you wear gloves and eye protection...CSC will do a number on bare skin.
  23. Congrats on the new job...just two things to remember with plumbing: ###### runs down hill and don't chew your fingernails! And thank you for your service to our country!
  24. Very cool! Can't wait to see it in person.
  25. I just want to know the hours at Jairus' library.
