November Cpmcc Meeting Photos
Andy Wyatt replied to Daniel Peterson's topic in Model Club News and Announcements
Great pics Dan and tell your alter-ego, Danna White, she did a great job showcasing the auction items up for bid! Certainly a lot different than having Rodney Dangerfield up there...not sure if that's a good thing or not! -

Polishing A Model
Andy Wyatt replied to Hartness53's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This is one of those questions that you could get a hundred different answers to. Here's what I do. After the paint has cured ( using Krylon that might take a while...I've never used it) I use polishing pads from MicroMark. They are 2 inch square pads that range from 2400 to 12,000 grit. Depending on the surface of the paint ...how much orange peel or if there is dust will determine which grit you use first. Sand in one direction until the paint surface starts to look even. It will not be shiny yet...in fact it will be considerably duller but DON"T PANIC becaust thats supposed to happen. By the way, use the polishing pads wet with a drop of dish soap...they won't load up with paint and they'll last much longer. After using the first grit (lower number grit first, move onto next higher number...and don't skip grits) proceed to the next grit. You want to be extra carefull around sharp edges and door lines because it's very easy to rub through the paint in these areas. On large flat surfaces ike the roof, hood or trunk begin polishing in one direction and switch directions with each grit...lengthwise, crosswise. Once I have the paint where I want it I will clear it. Some guys don't polish out paint before clear. I do because I don't like to load up a lot of clear to cover any orange peel...it just doesn't look right when the car has that much clear on it. Once I have cleared it and it has cured I will go through the polishing pads again...being extra careful because it's hard to see if you are rubbing through it or not. After the polishing pads I use Meguiars #7 Showcar Glaze in the tan bottle. I like it because it has no silicates in it and can be painted over if you need to touch up. I just rub it on with a piece of white flannel then buffing with a piece of clean flannel. The most important thing is practice. The more you do it the easier it will get. Good luck! -
An Unusual '40 Ford Kit
Andy Wyatt replied to 7000in5th's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
What do you use to get the lid off the paint jar when it's painted shut? -
That looks awesome Randy! I actually started that same kit in hopes of having it done for the December CPMCC meeting. Not likely to have it finished though...

There's one small discrepancy in what Bill said. He said "if the car wins.." and he should have said "when the car wins..."! I, unfortunately only manage to get to a couple shows a year. I only enter recently built cars and I don't take the car to the same show more than once. If it's a small show that is just getting started or an event like a 1:1 car show and our club has a display then I will dig out a couple older builds just to fill up the display. I'm not worried about trophies because I know with Bill Geary around (and alot of other guys who know who they are)...I'm not gonna win anyway. I build for fun and go to shows to meet people. A trophy would be nice but I'm not digging my "best" build out year after year trying to get one.

Another winner Bill! Can't wait to see it up close!

She's a beauty Lyle! I really like the side trim on those cars...guess I'll have to e-mail Norm. Dan, I actually started a logo car for the CPMCC but when I tried to paint flames on it it was so hideous I nearly quit modelling altogether! It went straight to the purple pond and from there straight back into the box. Might try it again...someday.

That's sharp! Very well done!

Snap kits for kids?
Andy Wyatt replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Easy Nick! Wow! Really interesting point of view you have there. I know Nick, he and his dad are fellow club members. Nick isn't a kid anymore and he has progressed WAY beyond snap kits, but he's a lot closer to being a kid than most of us here. I know he's about the same age as my son...we'll just call him a young adult. It's refreshing to hear someone as young as yourself having some of the points of view you have. Oh, by the way...don't throw your Ipod or whatever it is against the wall...I'll take it if you don't want it! You or Ned will have to show me how it works though! -
COMPLETE: 2003 Pirates of the Caribbean Pontiac
Andy Wyatt replied to David Thibodeau's topic in Model Cars
Only one thing to say..."AAARRRGGHH!!" (that's the best pirate growl I can come up with this early in the morning!)...That build is unbelievable! -
where do you get your models?
Andy Wyatt replied to Hartness53's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Like Bill I get most (90%) of mine from Ron Bradley. I'll get a few at shows or off the raffle table at club meetings or from the yearly auction the CPMCC has, which reminds me that is coming up....got raid the sofa cushions for some change! LOL! I rarely buy a kit a Wally World...mainly because I don't like going into Wally World. Even more rarely will I buy one from the local hobby shop...prices are too high. I know he has overhead but why should I pay $22 for a kit when I can get it from Ron for $13. I do buy my paint and other stuff from the local hobby shop though. -
Wiring a blown engine

Holy ######! Awesome diagrams guys...makes me want to dig out a funny car from the stash and get started on it! -
Any Buick 455 experts in the house?
Andy Wyatt replied to Andy Wyatt's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
what do the Chinese have to do with this This is the latest reissue of the kit...stamped right on the bottom of the chassis Made In China -
Started a Revell '70 Buick GSX and I noticed on the intake it is stamped "Firing Order...." along with the numbers (don't ask me the order, I don't care and it's way too small for my tired eyes to make out). What I want to know is that really stamped on the 1:1 intake or is it some Chinaman at Revell thinking he's funny? I'll probably leave it on regardless, until I'm done plumbing and wiring and putting the big air cleaner on you won't see it anyway...I'm just curious. Thanks!

Looking good Nick! I think we better up the age for juniors to 25 or so...don't need all this competition on the tables each month!

What brings you to this forum?
Andy Wyatt replied to lonewolf's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I like the format of this board and the fact that it is moderated. The other board which shall remain nameless ( but it's initials are Hobby Spotlight Heaven whatever...) has WAY too much OT stuff and with the format I have to scroll through 500 posts to get to one that pertains to modeling. Here I can go to an individual thread and not wade through the spam, the grom, the "I need a prayer for my dying cat" or the "I need legal advice about an accident I was in" and all the bickering. -
I think Halloween arrived a week early! Love the color...one cool build!
-
I got a new driveway...all but $6,000 worth. So my model budget is done for a while. I did pick up three kits at the September Showdown this past weekend...'37 Ford, '40 Ford street rod and '41 Willys street rod. Also picked up some goodies from Reps and Mins of MD.

I'm not what you'd call a big fan of the Mustang but your build is absolutely stunning! The engine detailing and the beautiful black paint job are amazing!

How about some Re-Introductions?
Andy Wyatt replied to Steve H.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm Andy Wyatt, just turned 44 and I reside in York PA ( by the way Randy...York is only 40 minutes from New Holland ). I'm a member of the CPMCC and MAMA clubs which between the two has more talented builders than you can shake a sprue tree at. Don't get to build as much as I'd like to here of late but I still keep interested. Here's a link to some of my builds. http://www.freewebs.com/modelsbyandy/ -
Another winner Lyle!
