I for one will never buy resin sight unseen. I was at a show several years ago and I don't remember who the caster was ( I'm thinking it was Reliable...but not entirely sure). I had a body in my hands and looked at it very carefully. When agreed to purchase it the caster took the body I had and got another one and handed it to me. He got kinda pissed when I went to open it before forking over my $$$. The one he handed me was a lot rougher than the first one I looked at. I told him to keep it and walked away.

NICE!! I've been waiting to see pics of this one finished! Will it be at Mid Atlantic NNL this year?

There are two things I have to agree with on this subject: I whole-heartedly agree with Dave that you are indeed a goofy guy. I also have to agree with everyone elses comments...that is one terrific truck! Nice job!

Ideas for Taking Good Pics
Andy Wyatt replied to Bruce Poage's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I am by no means an expert ( the crappy photos I post will attest to that!) but lighting and background are the keys. I take my pics outside just because th natural light looks better to me. I try and take the pics on a bright overcast day. If you are taking pics indoors a little "studio" set up works well...a light background and seperate photo lights are ideal. Multiple lights are a good set up...one to light the subject and another to fget rid of any unwanted shadows. I'll let the good photographers elaborate more on the indoor photography. -
SWEET! I couldn't get one to look half that nice if I spent 4 months on it!

Don't leave your model in your real car.
Andy Wyatt replied to LDO's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That'll rub out... -
That is sharp Matt! Sounds like you did exactly what I did stance-wise on mine. I wish I had done up the letters on the tires, that looks a lot better than the blackwalls on mine.

Great job Randy! Not a big fan of the new Camaro but yours looks really sweet. Can't wait to see it in person.

AIR BRUSH BLUES
Andy Wyatt replied to jarretfan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If you are getting air bubbles in the bottle then it sounds as if your tip is clogged. Not familiar with the airbrush you are using...but if it is a double action then you should get air flowing through when you push down on your control button, and paint should flow when you pull it back (assuming it works like a Paasche or Badger. ). I would try and find a parts breakdown schematic online, tear the thing down and clean it good and put it back together and try again. -

One of my least favorite things to do on a model...BMF. First thing is make sure the moldings that you are foiling are free from mold lines, dust in the paint, whatever...anything that you can see before you foil will look ten times worse after you foil. Secondly, be sure you have a decent sheet of BMF. I store mine in a sealable one gallon freezer bag to keep the humidity from getting to it. If it is cracked and doesn't want to come off in one piece...throw it out and get some fresh. If it comes off the sheet okay but doesn't want to stick, try going over it with a hairdryer to sticky up the adhesive. Lastly, make sure you are using a SHARP blade for trimming. I use a brand new blade and strop it on a sheet of paper with polishing compound on it. BMF does have a shelf life...so stop building all those off-road things and do a street rod or a '50's cruiser once in a while!

Model Master .v. Tamiya
Andy Wyatt replied to sno_man80's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've just recently tried the new Model Master lacquer and was pleasantly surprised. I thought it sprayed fairly well...not as nice as Tamiya like Matt said, but definitely workable. I once heard a guy who always gets great paint jobs out of spray cans (won't mention any names but his initials are Lyle Willits) say it ain't how you get the paint on it's what you do with it afterwards. As long as you do your body prep, keep dust boogers off and sand and polish once the paint is cured then I don't see a lot of difference between MM and Tamiya. Depends on the color selection I guess. -
That is NICE! Those PL funny cars build up really nice...I've done one and have a couple more in the stash to do some day.

This isn't so much "under glass" as it is "in the mail". A few of us decided (I didn't really decide...I was roped into it) to do a community build. Mhadman donated the kit, a few of us suckers put it together for him and he gets the finished build. I volunteered to do the engine. The kit is the Lindberg '61 Impala. The body is in Florida, the interior and parts of the chassis was done in Tennessee, the engine was done in Pennsylvania and the final assembly is being done in North Carolina. The finished model will then reside in New York. The engine is all from the kit except for the carb which came from my parts box. It was modified some, filled in the large hole in the top where an air cleaner would have been glued into and drilled out ports. Added plug wires and boots, fuel lines, heater hoses and carb linkage. Also scratched an alternator bracket. Now I have to figure out how to pack it so it gets to N.C. in one piece! I just hope the recipient likes it. This was a fun deal and (apparently) we will do it again, someone else donating the kit and everyone doing a different part of the build.

Very nice! I just pulled that kit out of the stash...hope mine turns out half as nice as yours!

With Cobra Colors out of business, where might I find paint for my Hasegawa '71 Lamborghini Miura? I'd like to do something other than the red like on the box, but I'd like it to be something close to factory correct. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That is just too wild! When these bike kits came out I thought..."eh..what could you possibly do with that"....well you're showing everybody what you can do! Each one you've built is cooler than the last! Great stuff!

Looking good Randy! I assume we'll be seeing the hi-boy at the meeting this Saturday...I had hoped to get mine done but that isn't going to happen...won't be making it to NNL East either I'm afraid. Will definitely have something new for Mid Atl. NNL though!

VERY nice! Great detail work on the engine compartment!

That's sharp! Exotics aren't exactly my thing (although I have a Lambo Miura that may find it's way to the REAL soon). Very smooth paint, perfect stance. Very nice job Izzy!

Very nice! I have one of those started...I should dig it out and finish it some day...LOL!

Very nice work!
