Yeah we had a blast...a blast furnace! Can't believe it was so hot...at least it was air conditioned where we were. I did enter it in the contest. I wasn't there all weekend, just Friday and to help tear down this afternoon. I don't know who won the awards...I think one Jack Bouman brought won NSRA Pick. Yes, the new release has the larger rims and low profile tires as well as big and littles with Cragar type mags.

Latest issue of the Revell kit. Built just to have something on the club table at NSRA Nats. Plastikote Autumn Maple (I think) over Duplicolor Driftwood metallic and Duplicolor clear. Kept the handles off, filled in where the bumpers would have been, used small LED lights from air conditioner remote controls for taillights. Kit engine wired and plumbed. Scratched a coil for the a/c and plumbed it...of course it can't be seen because I'm stupid. Thanks for looking!

My very first model was an LTD...not sure what year, I vaguely remember it coming in a sort of plain white box. I was around six or seven so that would be around '69 or '70. Didn't build many cars as a kid...I rememebr buiulding the Dick Trickle Mustang stocker and a large scale Dragon trike and a few other cars...mostly planes and armor. Also had the visible V-8 that my dad and I did together. Also built a lot of the Aurora dinosaurs and monsters and some bird kits.

That's gorgeous Lyle! Can't wait to see it this weekend...I'm thrashing on a '37 Ford hoping to get it done by Friday.

Another killer build! I love it...can't wait to see it in person!

Lots of cool stuff there...if I ever get a Saturday off I need to get back down there for a meeting.

1950 Caddy "Purple Haze" finished 5/1/08
Andy Wyatt replied to Irvin Arter Jr.'s topic in Model Cars
I think this has to be my favorite that I saw at NNL East ( and that's saying something!)...seeing it parked there with Mike's and Chopper's was really cool too! Another homerun from Irv! -
Let me guess...you ran out of BMF when you built your '59 Impala.. Looks great as usual my man!

Nothing beats a hot rod with a hopped up flattie! Very cool!

Right...when I first went in everyone was being moved to the far end of the restaurant...they said the opposite end was the "family" dining area! LOL!

Hey Mal!! Haven't seen one from you in a while...very nice work and a nice trophy to go with it (deservedly so!).

Kudos to to Tri-State guys for putting on an awesome show even with all the last-minute scrambling they had to do. The vendor rooms were great, plenty of room to move and lotsa stuff to buy. The display tables...well I'll let the guys who have better cameras and better photography skills than me post on what was there. Unbelievable! I met a lot of great guys too which is really 90% of the reason I went. Great meeting you guys and seeing a few that I only get to see once a year or so. O.K. Hadley...time to get something built now!

I'm usually not a big fan of the wire wheels but they look pretty darn good on that! Love the color too! I have one of these on my soon-to-do list.

List Your Modeling Heroes...
Andy Wyatt replied to a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't know if I'd call him a hero...but the most well-known modeler that I know personally and also one of the nicest guys you'd ever meet...Bill Geary. Not sure how long it's been...I'm thinking 5 or 6 years now, I was on some message board and Dan Peterson talked me into joining the CPMCC. A couple weeks before my first meeting I had been e-mailing back and forth with Bill Geary and looked forward to meeting him. Meeting day...if any one here has ever seen Bill at a meeting or show you'll know he commands quite a crowd ( and rightfully so). At this particular meeting Bill had his '69 Daytona Charger along and was surrounded by a dozen or so members looking it over. When my son and I walked in Bill excused himself from the crowd and came over and introduced himself to me and my son. He introduced me to a few of the other members and really made us feel welcomed. He's always had nice things to say about my builds, is always willing to discuss in detail what goes into the amazing builds he does and will give advice if asked but doesn't push it onto people like a know-it-all. Everyone here is familiar with Bills models...and though I know I'll never be anywhere near that level I still get inspired to make my next model just a little bit better than the last one. -
That's sharp! Lots of little details...very nicely done!

I opened this thread up just to see what the heck a Hippo Sleek Subaru was...very nice build. Can't say there would be one on my bench anytime soon but yours is outstanding! Love the color on it too.

Nnl East 2008 Roll Call
Andy Wyatt replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'll be there but I already have a name tag that I got from you at Mid Atlantic NNL...can't wait to see some folks I haven't seen in a while and hopefully meet lots of new people. Maybe everyone who is staying at the Ramada can get together...I assume there is a bar there...maybe get some food... -
Any place that sells auto parts will have 1000 grit or 2000 grit wet/dry sanding paper that is a good all around grit. For polishing I recommend getting a set of the polishing pads from Micro Mark. They go from 2400 grit to 12,000.

Can You Solder Aluminum?
Andy Wyatt replied to kurth's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yes you can solder aluminum. Be sure to use a good flux paste and file or sand the area to be soldered before you try...sometimes aluminum is coated and the solder won't stick to it. -
Very nice! Love the color!

I really like the polishing pads from Micro Mark. They are 2" foam pads with grit on both sides...ranging from 2400 up to 12,000. I rarely use the 2400 except for sanding body work before paint. Use them wet with a drop of dish washing detergent and they will last a long time. After the pads I use Meguiars Show Car Glaze (in the tan bottle). It has no silicates in it so if you rub through the paint you can touch up over it. Once I'm happy (or tired of rubbing) I use Meguiars Yellow Carnuba wax.
