  1. Paint Perfection Personified. I loved Donn's videos and look forward to using his techniques soon. Thanks for posting Doc.
  2. I want to take a moment to thank all of the folks who advised me on my pinstriping woes. I was ready to test some of those theories when I found out the simplest fix was the one that would work. Thanks to Paul Mendoza, mr68gts, I've been playing with basic 3M Blue Painter's tape and it does everything I need it to do. The hauler bed is sanded down and ready for a reshoot of red. There WILL BE plenty of time for it to cure before I remask it for the silver. In the meantime, I'll get cranking on the winch (see what I did there?) and the body dolly. Pics tomorrow.
  3. I like to see build cards simply due to the fact that if a modification is done well, it may not be obvious to even an experienced judge. They don't always have the knowledge of whether the mod, let's say an altered wheelbase, was done by hand or came that way in the original kit. My speciality is vintage drag cars. I would be useless judging a military diorama, vintage aircraft or even factory stock cars, even though I worked in automotive service for 25+ years. For many people it's a conflict of interest because they are only qualified to judge the class they are entered in. I'm not a trophy hound either. I get plenty of peer recognition from my friends during the show. I don't need a plaque to prove that, just great memories. Placing is just a bonus.
  4. Thanx for all the pics Tom. Took me a while but I rolled through every single one.
  5. Although I prefer HEMI's, this build is the only Ford on my "To-Do" list. Unfortunately it's 4th in a long line of projects. As long as I have beautiful builds like yours for reference, it might break me out of a rut.
  6. Great way for me to kill an afternoon trying to figure out what to say. Actually, I'll consider the tank a warning for the plumbing to come. If you had done the tank AND fittings, I may have gone running for the Depends. If you'll excuse me, I'm gonna' hit YouTube and watch Uptown Funk so I can calm down a little.
  7. I was THIS close to going, but opted out for a local IPMS Regional. Glad to see Art Laski made it with Stephanie's Rose. Pretty in pink.
  8. Purple and Gold are my grand daughter's favorite colors. I'm sending her pics.
  9. Wow Harry. I don't catch enough of your builds, but this is sweetness with a capital "SWEET".
  10. Ray, I love the bizarre and off the wall stuff. This is gonna' rock. I had a visual of you sanding between and over those ribs. You were not smiling. Now you are and so am I. Good call.
  11. I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm no Theresa Caputo, (Long Island Medium), but I truly believe that only the physical bond is lost. The spiritual bond is forever. When you need comfort the most, know your son is still with you.
  12. Welcome to the board Billy. That's a wild ride with or without a body on it. Speaking of which, I think I speak for everyone here when I say, feel free to post pics of the chassis also. I love the Magic Muffler car since I saw it in a recent issue of Elapsed Times magazine. Cool to know that you've done what some of us can only dream of. Impressive resume sir. I've taken a few breaks from the hobby before too. When I came back, these yaahoo's, er, um, fine gentlemen steered me in the right direction and many have become friends.
  13. Tim, I'm sending some very nice people to come and have a little chat with you. You can recognize them by their white coats. As a matter of fact, I've asked them to bring you a nice white coat too. Don't resist. Just do as they say and everything will be fine. Eventually.
  14. Howdy Randy. Yes, I am back up to snuff thank you. Two solid days of aching legs and a dozen cat naps. There will be progress this weekend, but I have to prep for a contest here at the Riviera Hotel on Saturday. It's an IPMS affair called Best of the West. I have a few possible solutions for my pinstriping problems. One possible scenario is to shoot a sheet of decal paper with gold, cut out the panels, then lay a smaller version of the red on top. Brother John T recommended computer board tape, but I haven't found the right stuff yet. So many choices and I'm still looking. The current plan is to shoot the decal paper tomorrow, give it PLENTY of time to dry, then apply. I am very frustrated with clear coats these days, I've wiped out 50 bucks worth of decals with clears that attack the red panels on the sheet. I've tried Tamiya that wrinkled, an expensive poly urethane that fish eyed, Rustoleum & Model Master One Coat Lacquer, all with unacceptable results. My airbrush will be up and running in June sometime and that oughta put an end to this nonsense. One another note, I'm making improvements to the wheel standing U S Dart by correcting a minor wheelbase problem. It's also getting a proper straight front axle with leaf springs, then finally some adjustments where the body interfered with a clean removal in order to take a double exposure pic. If there's time left, I'll polish out the paint some more on the Big John gasser. I noticed a haze in the sunshine of Phoenix that I didn't see before. Anywho, I've been busy, just nothing to show for it yet. Good stuff to come. Thanks for everybody's patience.
  15. Thank you Danno for putting into words what my stumbling brain failed to execute. Transcendence is exactly what this build represents. A new level of accuracy heretofore attempted by many and achieved by few.
  16. In general, any car that has a suspension designed for bias ply tires benefits greatly from radial tires. The radial's flexible sidewall makes all the difference in the world. Not to mention modern tires have more sipes, gripping edges, for better traction on cornering and acceleration. For steering response, it feels like you just installed a rack & pinion. But you just got them for the looks, right?
  17. Hey Darryl, I'm just getting caught on on stuff and found this rusted out gem. Pure modeling goodness as always. The tarp is the center of attention. No surprise there. The ground and truck look as though they are becoming one. No surprise there either.
  18. Outstanding update Chris. Just like the build, you went all out on this one. Scott, I wish you could see this car in person. As good as Chris' pics are, it has to be seen up close and personal.
  19. Okay, I did my research and found 2 PA contests in September. The Super September Showdown in Gilbertsville on the 13th and the Three Rivers Automodelers have theirs on the 27th. I've been to a 3 Rivers event back in '92 when I lived in Virginia. Decisions, decisions, decisions.
  20. I guess that settles it for me then. I went to Phoenix to see Chris' Vega. A trip to Gilbertsville in September is not out of the question. I'll look up the details and get back to you.
  21. Uber sweet ride Niko. Wish I'd owned one of those at your age. NEVER let it go !!!!!!!!
  22. Great work on the pilot Ira. Sticking in my basic 2 cents worth, I hope the head won't be looking at the roof of the cockpit as it seems in the picture. Might be an optical illusion too. Maybe have it turned to the side like he's checking where an opponent is. Am I getting too technical? Keep up the awesomeness. Anybody notice a keyboard has a "$" sign, but no "Cents" ?
  23. Double Ditto Danno. Cross yer fingers for GSL. I'm back to work on it tomorrow as the winds allow. Right now they are 50 mph, slightly less tomorrow.
  24. As if I didn't get enough awesomeness at the DSC, I gotta come home to this? Getting closer and closer to a rolling chassis Tim. I've been meaning to ask. You're referring from time to time about "cleaning up the joints." How is that done? Filing, sanding, reheating, really really strong dental floss? Are you going to NNL East? If so, are you taking this as in progress? Just nosey, er, curious.
