66 Chevy ll outlaw style..(update 12/23/16)..
W-409 replied to tyrone's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Excellent work as always! You sure know how to build these Doorslammers right! Fantastic work on this one, excellent detailing everywhere and smooth black paint job too. Plus that it's always nice to see a Chevy II being built. Great job! I'd like to see you building a 1st Gen Nova or Chevy II sometime... -
That's a really nice build! Fantastic paint job on that body, a fade paint job like that must be really tricky to get right, but you nailed it. Really nice build, but my only change would be the tires and wheels. With wide whites and some good looking hubcaps this would be a perfection.

That's a really nice looking Edsel! Great to see one of these built, as I have a '59 Edsel HT builtup waiting to be rebuilt as a Mild Custom. Excellent work with this. Nice and smooth paint job and flawless work with BMF. Interior looks really inviting too...

Dang I haven't seen this thread before, I haven't checked inside this Truck section for a long time...Too many categories. But this Bronco looks like a must have! I have always wanted to build a Bronco Rock Crawler like they did on Monster Garage years ago. Now since there is a kit to do it, I just need to find proper tires for it...

That is the only annoying thing on NHRA Drag Racing! Or if all of those ricers were left out of the ladder, no problem, but unfortunately some of those are actually pretty fast. Well of course it's only the body that is wrong, but to be honest, I hate all of those modern European and Japanese cars... Well, luckily Line and Anderson did great job on Pro Stock!

Pair Of '64 Super Stocks: Ford Thunderbolt & Dodge 330 -Finished-

The progress isn't very fast, but front and suspension components are getting closer of being ready to install. I sanded all mold lines and other flaws from the body, scribed panel lines a bit deeper and shot a coat of primer on. There are still a couple of spots that need to be fixed, but that's not my biggest problem now. For some reason the paint reacted with the plastic a bit and now it looks like there is a lot of sanding required... I hope block sanding and another coat of primer will solve the problem, I don't want to strip the paint with this one. -
Wow, I didn't even know these existed until now, a great find! I think having promos or kits of these old models you see very rarely is fun. And of course as a builder, I especially enjoy building them! This one would be an interesting rebuild!

Nice work! Even with all the trouble you had, it turned out great! You sure know how to build these old Funny Cars correctly. Good looking paint job and decal work together with sharp detailing really finish it off. Nice job.

In October we took a flight to Los Angeles to visit Pomona Swap Meet. Of course, there is lots of stuff to see so the Swap Meet wasn't the only place or event where we visited. In 2015 we were in the same place watching NHRA Finals, so some of the places were already visited earlier but then we also included some new places on our schedule. I took lots of pics during the trip so maybe some of you might enjoy seeing them... So on Thursday evening our flight arrived to LAX Airport. We drove to our hotel at Huntington Beach, but it was already pretty late so nothing special was done that evening... On Friday morning though we went watching NMCA West Coast World Finals at Fontana Raceway. It was a great day with a Test & Tune session first and then Qualifying. There were lots of interesting cars on the strip and the day was over way too fast. Unfortunately we were unable to come back on Saturday and Sunday as we had other things planned for those days...There just wasn't time for everything. Here's a link to full picture gallery: NMCA West Coast World Finals, Fontana, CA And here are a couple of teaser shots... This Fairlane was running Outlaw 8.5. That was a wild class as cars were running with small tires and stock front and rear suspension with no wheelie bars. Many guys had some traction issues, but then again other ones had trouble with wheelstands... This Fairlane did a huge wheelstand on that run, just about next to the tree, rear bumper hit the ground and all four wheels were up in the air. When all four tires were on the ground again, the driver had already floored it again... More pics are behind that link above...Pics from other events will be posted in the near future....

I'm not a fan of non-US cars, but this one is a must have. These Group B cars were interesting, and if this kit really is full detail, it sounds great too. Hopefully we can see some pics soon on this one (No, I'm not going to open that FB link...I have never been there before).

Very nice! It's always nice to see these old Stock Cars being built. Really nice and clean work on this '56, everything seems to be just right. Even the holes for side trim are there! I have a question: What did you use to make those straps that keep hood and trunk lid shut? I have a Black Widow Chevy in progress and I'd like to display it with hood open as well, so those straps have to be a bit flexible to display them on or off...
-
Well after opening the box I noticed the same thing...Excellent! They just don't have any center knobs so I'll have to fabricate them myself and sand those raised letters away from the tires.

I just bought a Monogram 1/32 Malibu. I have never been a huge fan of these smaller scale kits, but this G-Body Malibu was a must have. I'd like to build it factory stock, like it was sold in Finland as new in 1979. But since the kit doesn't have stock wheels and tires I guess I'll have to make it a regular daily driver then and not a showroom stock car.

Matty Winspur's "The Fabulous Hudson Hornet".
W-409 replied to Dave Metzner's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Thanks for the answer! That's no problem for me, I'll be glad to use those slicks on my build, even though they technically are not NHRA legal Stock class tires. But, no kits that I know of have the correct slicks in them so I have always used the "wrong" tires on my builds too. Much more important to me is that they look good when the model is displayed somewhere, and these tires definitely do. -

This is a must have kit for sure! These old Stock and Super Stock cars are my favorites and while this one is going to be Moebius quality, it's a must have. Is there more info or pics of the rear slicks? How wide are they and do they have any "grooves" on the tread? -

Here are a couple of pics, I slightly lifted that front end up. I think it looks pretty good now so I'll leave it like that. Next I'll try to start doing some bodywork to get it in Primer soon... -
That turned out very nice! Big thumbs up for building something that is a bit rarely seen, especially when it's done this well. Really nice paint and BMF work and your engine detailing is also top notch.
-
This is an interesting project! The kit is very nice as Moebius kits always are and I'm sure you'll do great work on it. Wheels and tires look really good already! That glue issue is surprising. I've built two Moebius' kits in the past and had no problems at all with paint or glue. Though the kits I built are a bit older ones, Hudson and '55 Chrysler so wonder if the plastic has changed?
-
Very nice work so far! I built one of these kits myself as well and it was a lot of fun. Nice to see a bit different build being made in here. I like the engine and bench seat. Nice bodywork too. I'm interested in seeing more of this!
-
Wow! I really like the all black body together with no whitewalls, black steel wheels and Dog Dish hubcaps... Perfect combination! The build quality is impressive as always with your builds. Very nice and clean work.
-
That's looking very good. These 4 Door cars are nice to see as models, even though I always prefer 2D models in 1:1 scale. Very nice work on this a bit simplified kit! Everything seems to be just right, the overall look is spot on and I like your added detailing too. Nice work.

Looks like I'm a bit late with the reply, but better late than never I guess... Thanks! Your Roadrunner looks very good too, it's great to see one of them being built as a Drag Car too, you don't see that happening too often... I cleaned up mold seams from kit's headers and applied a bit putty over ejector pin marks. On co-driver's side header there was a hole in the collector where you could glue an original exhaust pipe... That had to be filled with styrene rod and I used a bit putty to smooth it out, too. Then both headers were assembled and prepped ready for paint. Now I just need to decide what shade of silver I'm going to paint them. I'm debating between Revell 91 silver and Humbrol 56, which is more like gun metal shade. Then I did the first mock up to check the stance. It doesn't look too bad, but I think I'll lift up the front end a little. But just a little, I don't want it to be too high either. Minor lifting might make it look a bit better though. -
I'm afraid there's no other than a Pro Mod available, unfortunately. Here's a thread on same subject from a few years back with some more info: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/60187-41-chevrolet-coupe/

You're right that some Finns can consume lots of drinks... Actually I can't count myself in that group, a couple of beers is fine but that's about it. I think I prefer spending time in the garage working on my '62 Chevy II. I just wish we had warm weather all year round and no snow. Sometimes in the winter there's so much of it that we can't figure out where we should plow it... Luckily we're not in that point right now, even though we have a decent amount of that white stuff on the ground... Well, at least it's a good time to work on 1:1 and 1:25 cars now!
