Why do you build model cars?
Darren B replied to nboldman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Man sorry to hear about loosing your model collection, I have a wife that would do that to mine if we got to that point in our relationship, she has destroyed some builds on my work bench before so i know its in her if it got to that point so I feel for you bad. I can see it happening and really feel for you. Hang in there and just get back into it and keep your head up........................................ -
Why do you build model cars?
Darren B replied to nboldman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
For me its to relieve all the stress and bs that is in my life, it gets me away even for just 30 mins here or and hour there, as I do not have much time to build much of anything at the moment, but just thinking bout what im gonna do next on my current build helps keep me out of the loony bin. -
With the talk of scale wieght...
Darren B replied to JustBill's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Darin you hit it right on the head and include an unlimited supply of money and yeah about a day or just under a day would be about right. -
Who's excited or is it just me?
Darren B replied to Tye Brown's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah that would be nice too, I have no money to buy more kits and to sell kits to buy new ones doesn't make financial sense either as you cant get the full price you paid for the kits your selling except if you do not intend to build them anytime soon that may make good sense but yeah im with you i remember the $2.95 a kit price but that is aging me now................... -
Not your cup of tea but proves that you are an excellant modeler no matter what the skill level, have to agree with Dave skills are skills just different model.

Im gonna have to agree with Harry and plowboy on this, i have used testors, krylon, tamiya, and just about every brand out there, even using an airbrush(unless you are on the lowest air setting you can get, and even then, the by product is overspray) still have a fair amount of over spray. If anyone can tell me how to get away from this would help.

soft or weak styrene in kits
Darren B replied to 62rebel's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Now that its mentioned I do recall seeing that on a few kits I built in the past but mostly to revell/monogram kits, where parts of it (just the body) would flake up in layers around the edges of the body mostly front end or rear end or both. -

If anything try to scratch build one. I know this is for vehicles with wheels, but i scratched one for a snowspeeder project as I felt the kit one was to whimpy. -
MPC 1/12 1930 Bentley Racing Car
Darren B replied to John Teresi's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
Are you serious John! What you could do with a real car would be amazing, your work is the best I have seen and it just amazes me all the time, this will truly be a museum piece when done. Makes me want to grab the keys and take it around the block to see how she runs.................................................... -
55' f-100 Kustom
Darren B replied to BKcustoms's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Not sure if you have seen these already but the custom wheels from the 1950 ford f-1 pickup looks pretty close of a match to the wheel you have pictured above. Or maybe you already found them. -
What was tucked under the tree,2011
Darren B replied to Austin T's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Dont go until you print out the 40% off one regular item coupon, i have three hobby lobbys around me in a 10 mile radius so you can use it three times in a day here or go back in an hour or so so no one recognizes you. Like today used my hobby lobby gift card on a 1950 ford model was originally 21.99 after using the coupon made it 13.29, makes a big difference, get more for less. -
Comparing car models to airplane models
Darren B replied to Terry Sumner's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm with you on that, as a family man with a wife and children, its hard to go out and buy the latest and greatest kit that comes out. Not even considering the cost. But that is for an entirely new thread, but I do agree with you, some may tend to be cheap but we have to provide for others as well and priorities come first, however that said im looking at picking up pop cans along the road as I have fallen in love with that new double decker bus by monogram/revell im told at my lhs to expect to be set back about $170.00 but looking at the detail its worth it. Just may take me a year or so to save up for that. -
MicroMarks photo etch kit
Darren B replied to moparmagiclives's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
cool have to check out one of those kits then, cause the price of buying photoetch kits can be pretty heavy and you have to buy what they make, if you make your own then the sky is the limit for what parts you make. -

Thats amazing thank you for sharing those techniques

that is fantastic it always amazes me how people work with tiny models smaller than 1/43rd scale.
