Mooneyzs replied to Mooneyzs's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Nikko... Thank you. I have had a few of the decals give me troubles but at this point happy with how they have turned out. Greg... Hows my Aussie Mate doing? Its great to see you back on here and getting back to some of your builds. I have had some ups and downs with this build the entire time but think I have come out of it pretty good. That would be very neat if you were able to come to the states for a show and some of us get to meet ya. Bob... Thank you. It has been long over due to get this thing finished but that is my goal now. I will be chipping away at it for sure Dave... thank you. It seems that sometimes I have no issues at all with decals and then other times they just fight me...lol Brad... Thank you. Yeah some gave me a fight and others didn't. there were some on the back above the tail lights that are much bigger on the restored car. John... Thanks Brother!! It's getting there but I really can't wait until I can put that last coat of clear on them. the weather has been way too hot and humid to even consider clearing it, So that have to wait for a little longer. Randy... Thank you my Friend... I appreciate the kind words. Danno... thanks man... Next Year . Tim... What can i say but thank you my friend. Your builds and updates are always an inspiration for me. You know I am looking forward to planning that Dragster . Manfred... I am quite excited about that too. That way I can then get it color sanded and polished out and add the final touches to the body then. Joe... Thanks... Hey I finished one in the past 3 years I think . I think it was the Front engine dragster... Here is a pic.. -
John... this is one heck of an updated. I don't know where to start. First off I love the rolling chassis it looks so good with the wheels on it. I love the weathering on the wheels and on the lettering, they always look so realistic. Then the engine detail is out of this world. That alcad has to be some of the best you have ever done. The engine looks killer and I love the detail you have added to transmission. As you said it may not be visible once installed but you know it's there. I think my favorite part of the update is the seeing that gorgeous engine sitting in that rolling chassis. It just had a Bad A$$ look to it. Very nice update Brother!

Dayum Johnny Boy!!! You are the Master when it comes to Alclad. Those Wheels look freaking real. That chassis is looking killer as well. This is turning out so nice . Seems what ever you build or touch it turns into Gold. I can't wait to see what you have in store for us next. I know one thing.... It will be Bad A$$!

Tim.... that is some insane work my friend. Those water Jacks are flat out awesome. So impressive. They are going to look even more killer once plated. I have to keep reminding myself that these parts are way smaller than what I am working on. Nice work Tim. Loving this engine

Hello Fellas... So I wanted to keep you all posted and to let you know that Mark Johnson came thru and got me my engines. After I didn't hear from him for over 2 weeks he got a hold of me last Thursday asking a few questions regarding some pics and wanted to find out a couple details about a few components on the car these are for. Then to my surprise on Friday I get another email from him saying that he got my engines done and he wanted to verify my address, and if I got back to him before a certain time he would be able to get them out that day. So I replied and I received the engines on Monday. It's been a busy week at work and haven't been able to post about them until now. I send him and email thanking him and letting him know that they showed up the day I got them. I am thankful and appreciative that he got me the engines I have been waiting for. Here is a pic of the engines: -
Tim.... wow... you killed it with the details for the breathers. They turned out perfect!! This engine is such a Inspiration. The. Your attention to detail with adding the sleeves to the valve covers just steps this up another notch. I love it. I am agreeing with Dave here.... I vote to go the route of a FED .... show that engine off in all it's glory. And as a suggestion.... I recommend using Mother's Mag and Aluminum polish for the valve covers. I have used it on multiple aluminum parts and very happy with the finish on them. I can not wait to see what the next treat on the table will be. Keep up the outstanding work.

Well Fellas... I finally got myself to get to the bench this weekend and got myself to sit down and work on some more of the decals. I know I had frustrations with them when I had some of them tear on me and felt like putting the darn thing away so I did for a while. I messed with the decals today and felt I made some pretty good progress on them. Needless to say it felt good back at the bench working on this. Alright let me show you all what I got accomplished so far.... I was able to finish up the rear of the body. I still wish that all of the decals in the white of the body were bigger like the restored car but I know it's the size that Revell did them: Next I worked on the Stars on the left side, Put the first one on one shot not problems: I got the roof stars on: Now the right hand side gave me major issues and this is where I had a good half dozen sets of stars rip on me and where I shelved the body for a while basically since my last post...lol. So on the very last good set of stars that was left I was able to get it lay down with out ripping: Next I worked on getting the decals on the hood: Then I worked on all the decals on the front end: -

Hey John... You are welcome. I need to pick up some of those center drills myself. As far as rivets go I was going to suggest taking a look at www.scalehardware.com They have a bunch of nuts, bolts, rivets. I just tried to their site and for some reason its not loading for me but they have a bunch of great miniature hardware products. And as far as tires go you can always check out TDR Innovations... you can check their web page or go and look at what they have availiable at shapeways. you will see on their web page it will link you over to Shapeways who is the company that does the print services for them. the only one thing I will say about looking thru their list on shapeways is that I haven't found a way to search in a specific scale you are looking for but they have 37 pages of parts or so. You can take a look at all the goodies they offer. Direct link: https://sites.google.com/site/tdrhtmllearn/ Link to TDR on Shapeways http://www.shapeways.com/designer/tdr_innovations/creations -
There are a few sites out there. 3D Content Central.... Grab Cad.... Thingaverse... Trace Parts.... I know there are others where you can upload and download files from.

Ben.... Jim sold his business to someone and I am assuming the new owner is getting up to speed with things. I am sure that there are probably some others here that could maybe go into more detail. I just know that it was sold.
-
Bob Dudek does some nice work by far. I was able to pick up 2 sets of Mexican Sombrero hubcaps and some other parts from him a few years ago and his parts were gorgeous. As far as Micro Nitro goes, Jim sold his business and as far as I know the new owner I believe is trying to get up to speed on things.
-
Tim..... Holy Cow.... There you go again pulling out that Giant Penny.... That right there is some awesome machining work on those valve covers and it sure shows. Now all you need to do is polish those bad boys up and then you will need to wear your at night...lol . Every update this build gets better. I am simply amazed by it and still can't quite grasp that it is 1/25th, Major props to ya.
-
Dave... Love those wheels my friend. Especially the wheels with the name engraved. Some very killer Machine work.
-
Rickard... You are one talented builder my friend. Wow at that injector hat assembly and barrel valve. That think is gorgeous and the Carbon Fiber decal work is just beautiful.

John... great looking parts. I would highly recommend using some center drills to get your location and then drilling with a drill bit. I use McMaster alot for work but we also use MSC Industries alot as well. depending on the size drill you are drilling with you could get different size center drills. I would recommend one of the following..it all depends on the diameter you are wanting to drill #0 has .03125 drill size #00 has .025 drill size #000 has .020 drill size #0000 has a .015 drill size #00000 has a .010 drill size Here are two links to center drills on McMaster just so you can see the size and style. You can order from other places... micro Marka also has them just not sure what they charge. Ypu cam also Google and I am sure you will find many places for center drills and drill bits http://www.mcmaster.com/#combined-countersinks-and-drills/=13hcgds http://www.mcmaster.com/#combined-countersinks-and-drills/=13hcigb -

I think that was said quite well... straight to the point if you ask me. I am also glad to know that you appreciate the hearing the others experiences. -
Why are 1/43 Scale Models so Pricey
Mooneyzs replied to Skip's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have a handful or two of 1/43 resin kits and I am a big fan of the Provence Moulage kits. I have paid anywhere from $35.00 to a tad over $100 (but the one over 100 was a dual kit so it made each a little cheaper) depending on the kit. Some are hard to come by So some of them I have been a little more willing to pay a little more. I have been eyeing two of the Provence Moulage High detail kits on Ebay the XJR12 Silk Cut Jag and and Aston Martin DBR 9 Gulf colors.... But that $300 price tag is a bit too much for me and can't get myself to pull the trigger. I don't know what it is with 1/43rd scale kits for me but they fascinate me and have been a fan ever since I build my first one.
