  1. OK, I just got off the phone with the dealer that did the original recall work to the alternator with my car. First, they CANNOT pick the car up (I tried), but they do offer a shuttle service to get me back home and pick me up again if need be. Second, the fella told me that parts are NOT in as of yet, and it'll be probably another three months or so till they're in, and I'll get a letter letting me know as much. This is just for the passenger side only, and since I'm the only one in the car 99.9% of the time, it's not super critical but still important just the same. Nevertheless, hopefully by the time the parts come in my eyesight will be much better and I can take the car over without worries, and get it done. EDIT: BTW, since I'm a tall fella, I have the seat in my car as far back as it'll go outta necessity. Same goes for the passenger side as I hate that side of the seat "not sitting even" with me while I'm driving, so it too is waaaaay back from the dashboard.
  2. Actually, I can drive but I'd rather not with one eye if I absolutely don't have to. Only for emergencies (such as my eye appt this past Friday) did I drive myself as I could get no one to take me. Everyone's at work, and I live alone-------if only somehow I could train the cats to drive! Your suggestion is a good one, and I'll have to call them to see if they even have the parts available. Once again though picking it up is one thing, getting it back here to my house can be the real ordeal. The dealer is not exactly close (used to be) and taking a cab over to collect it would be outta sight cash wise!
  3. Fiat, or anyone else for that matter cannot afford to make "bad" cars in this day and age. Of course, every car will have its little faults and issues, but the Fiat of today is nothing like what it was back in the early '80's when they were practically chased out of the country. I like 'em as far as it goes------------just waaaaay too small for me!
  4. Unless someone else down the road is gonna repop those Bob, if you didn't get 'em before they shut their doors, they're just simply unobtainium now.
  5. Well Charlie, as nice as those old cars were, I can remember as a kid seeing cars of those types in accidents, and they and the occupants didn't fare too well. Bill has it right in his comment above on how people drive. WAAAY too many distractions that can go on while driving, and now with this stupid "Pokemon Go" nonsense, you just wait till you hear about a tragic accident due to such tomfoolery. I stand by what I said earlier though about the way a car is designed these days. True they have "crumple zones" that take a lot of the impact away from the passengers, but I know of people who were still seriously injured due to the way the car was designed with their way too short dash to front axle distance. The result was serious leg/knee injuries which can take forever to heal if ever. The way the government can be so intrusive into how cars are designed these days, I wouldn't be surprised if there's a rule down the road where a driver/front passenger HAS to be so many inches away from the dash/steering wheel while driving, due to a possible airbag malfunction. This will leave the carmakers no other choice but to equip cars with adjustable pedals/steering columns because not everyone is a tall joker like me at over 6 ft.
  6. Mine's an '11. It's just gonna have to wait till I get better to get time to hassle taking it in to the dealer.
  7. I've tried twice to get in touch with Scale Automobilia and have gotten no response. This was using their link to email them. If I can't get a response in a decent amount of time guess what?? I'll just correct the engine on my own and forget about it! It IS only plastic...................
  8. Revell has been very good about replacing things. Years ago, I had a '59 Caddy body that was bent at the roof pillars. They very quickly sent me a new body that was straight as an arrow, no questions asked! ALL manufacturers should be this way!
  9. Sigh............My Challenger is on the list. I had just taken it in a few months ago for some type of alternator issue recall, and sure enough, I just got a notice about the airbag. With my vision difficulties, heaven knows when I'll take it in to have this done. Fortunately, I'm a tall guy, so I'm not sitting on top of the steering wheel, but I feel for those who are much shorter and have to sit so close. Kinda unrelated, but this is yet another reinforcing reason I don't like today's FWD cars. The wheels are too dang close to the front of the doors, which IMO leaves you NO crash protection whatsoever, making the need for these somewhat dangerous airbags necessary. I'd sure like to see the other carmakers adopt Volvo's newer FWD platform philosophy where the front wheels are out more to the front of the car, where they should be, and give the car IMO much more pleasing to the eye proportions.
  10. UGGGGGH! Those tires are TERRIBLE! Tires on a model and how it sits IMO either make or break it. If/when I ever get this kit (or build the one I already have), getting replacement tires------preferably white walls, are definitely in order! Steve, your suggestion sounds like a good one! I wonder if one of the Pegasus low rider tire sets would work........at least there's white walls on some of the ones I've seen.
  11. I could be wrong, but I think that one's coming back in a sort of "soap box derby" kit or something.
  12. Hey! A 1/64 scale '58 Plymouth Belvedere/Fury! From what I can see, the trim is STRAIGHT! 'Bout the only other thing I see that interests me is the '55 Nomad. I like the Camaro kit, but I'll wait till the full glue kit comes out later on.
  13. Hey! I found out since I've been gone that I got one! I don't know how much, but I did get a raise from what I've been told. Hmmm.............if it ain't enough, I'll see if I can ask for more!
  14. John, once you get the hang of it after some practice, you'll be spoiled by it and won't want things any other way!
  15. Well, I just got back from the eye Dr's, and everything looks good so far as far as it goes. I still have 60% of the bubble in my eye, but at least my very upper peripheral vision has returned. The bubble or "water line" is just above my line of sight, and it's quite annoying at best. I do have a very mild ache at times in my eye, and at times it feels like there's either dirt or sand in it. This is to be expected he said as a result of the operation. At least things are better than they were this time last week before the operation, when about half of my vision in my right eye was totally gone due to the detached retina. I don't go back again for another follow-up till August 26th, so until then there's no returning to work. I also still have to sleep on my side until the bubble totally dissipates, and of course no heavy lifting (nothing over 20 lbs.). I've gotten a couple horror stories already of what's happening at work without me there, but hey-----------I need to get this totally cured before worrying about that! Thanks folks for all of the nice PM's and well wishes. I hope to not endure this sort of thing again, but such is the territory as time marches on, and we all get older.
  16. Wow Bob, get the heck out! None of us got food poisoning the time we went, but that's awful! Well, there goes my impression of Dreamland!
  17. Time certainly flies! Hard to believe that it's been just over ten years since I joined this board. In fact, I think I signed up within the first week or two that the board opened up. It'll be quite some time (if ever) I get to 14,000 posts! Some days, I'm just lurking and looking, other days I might put in my 2ยข worth more than usual.
  18. Charlie, the name of the place was Dreamland! I was racking my brain, and then thought to do a 'net search and that's the name! I don't know about their quality now, but back in '05, their ribs were definitely the best I've had up to that point. The place you mentioned sounds like a very decent restaurant. I've not been to New England in ages, sounds like a place I'll definitely need to check out. In fact, a road trip is in order to that part of the U.S. Fall is a terrific time to head there as the trees change of color is spectacular!
  19. Clean as a whistle! Excellent! Gotta love those '61 GM wingless jets!
  20. Excellent job on the BMF! I know all too well that foiling one of these is NOT for the faint of heart! A lot of time can go into it!
  21. Beautiful! I sure hope they do some other oddball subjects in this scale! The price isn't bad considering the level of detail, and finish. Modelhaus's version is now OOP, and considering the asking price of what they wanted for a kit, this fully finished one IMO is a bargain.
  22. Hmmm.....I didn't know there was a DVD out with building tips for that! I'll have to be on the lookout for one, because that IS a very involved model! If/when I ever decide to build it, I'd like to replace the leaf springs with brass ones among other things. After over 50 years, things get kind of brittle and fragile!
