Hey! One can only hope! Not sure for what though..........
-
Interesting.......... I have two kits and I don't see them listed in either one. It looks to be part of the wheel assembly maybe? Not sure of that as I only see two of 'em. This is a mystery......... Edit: Here is a pic of the part in question...........

Click on the "time" under the user's icon on the right. OK, thanks Brett! I was clicking on the person's picture at first and kept going to their profile........I couldn't see that the time and the picture shown were delineated links.

Yeah Tom, some folks just don't like change------I can understand that. At the same time, where would be if we were "stuck" with the same old things? I run into this on my job as I'm a machine operator, and the machines are run by------you guessed it....outdated software. I've been saying for months that if they want to improve their efficiency, they're going to have to spend the time and the money to improve on what we have, and not "hope" that it keeps working. We've already had some serious downtime issues, and recently when we had a customer complaint about something that wasn't quite right, now all of a sudden there's a mad rush to fix what should have been fixed long ago. I like the new layout------just a couple little bugs here and there that need tweaking, but it's all good.
-
I'm having no problem viewing the new format at all as I'm using Firefox. The only beef I have with the layout is how it functions on my iPhone. I like to be able to go to the latest post particularly if it's a topic I've already read from the beginning. On the mobile end of it, there's no way to be able to do that as it always wants to take you to the first post. Just a little annoying..............

With some tweaking the Buick roof should work, or if you don't mind fixing the driver's side of the '65 Bonneville, you can hack that off on put it on the lower body of the Grand Prix.
-
Uh huh...........I see! Well, I haven't had to use this feature for a very long time, but it looks like the ignore button will have to be deployed on this one.
-
If that alone is not a good enough reason to avoid a kit......I don't know what to tell you! If you've seen the type of work I do, well there's a reason my handle is what it is. Just my own 2ยข worth............
-
Jim, Dave's handle is his own name. Also, if you take a look at the index of the site, where it lists all of the forums, you'll see that he posted something under "The Community". Hold your cursor over his name, another window will appear, and you'll see where you can PM him. Hope this helps!

It's a little bit of both it appears to me on the 2+2. Particularly the trunk area on the kit is too long as it should be shorter like the 1:1's------per the Catalina. As far as Revell's '66 Impala, I guess we'll have to agree to disagree, as I don't think the rear window is quite right on that one either. The corners are too sharp-----should be a bit more rounded like the 1:1's. Not a hard thing to fix, and it does look better than AMT's '65 Bonneville.

Very true! But in reading the article (I was surprised I still had it), it seems as though Larry was coming from the viewpoint that he was tired of the "they'll never know the difference" mentality, that unfortunately, is still around to a slight degree when it comes to some kits. I can't totally speak for Larry, but that's what I picked up on.

1956 Chrysler 300B (*** Finished 22 Nov 15 ***)
MrObsessive replied to taaron76's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Nice! Good job on cutting out the door, but whoaaa-----watch out for that thin windshield pillar! I'd want to build up the door jambs on that side before cutting out the other door......those thin roof pillars would make me nervous! -
Hmmm......Snake I have the AMT '66 Widcat, and its roof looks fine to me. Maybe later issues had the roof shape get that much more distorted? In fact, the reason I bought the Wildcat kit years ago, is because I wanted to attempt this very conversion, but other models took precedence, and I never got around to it. I have the Hasegawa '66 Pontiac too, and yes, the driver's side is a little wonky. One could fix this with a little patience and skill------likewise the AMT '65 Poncho roof could be corrected with just a trifle of work. I don't care for Revell's '65-'66 Chevy's at all! The roofs on them just look plain wrong to me---especially the '65. BTW, the article written about the 2+2 was in the October 1995 issue of Scale Auto Enthusiast, and it was written by Larry Greenberg. Larry was non too kind about this kit as it was very woefully inaccurate------I thought that the fender skirts were molded in, but he wrote in the article that the builder for the box art added them. VERY WRONG for a 2+2 as NONE of them ever had those! The other two kits in that article-----the first attempt by Revell/Monogram at a '70 'Cuda (we all know about THAT one!), and Lindberg's '40 Ford.

please stop it !
MrObsessive replied to b-body fan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's a pet peeve of mine too. along with woefully distorted glass. Best thing to do to alleviate that is really barrier coat that hood with either Future (Pledge with Future Shine), or BIN Zinsser sealant. I've used both and have never had any ghosting of the score line underneath. -
Sigh..............to have an accurate, nice glue kit of this! Wishful thinking though............
-
Indeed they did, and too my eyes, the GP's lower body has a much more accurate shape (length wise in the wheelbase and trunk) than the so-called 2+2 that they tried to foist on us. Edit: GP's can still be found quite cheap on the 'Bay, and with a roof swap and some other bits and pieces, an accurate 2+2 can be made. IIRC, All American Models did one in resin years ago, but whenever those turn up on eBay-------they go for BIG $$$$$!!
-
This kit was reviewed many years ago in SAE (Scale Auto Enthusiast), and IIRC the article was titled "Dog Days". The kit was absolutely CREAMED for being nowhere close to an accurate Pontiac 2+2! For starters, the body is too long as it's based on the old AMT '65 Bonneville, and they didn't even bother to at least retool the body and get rid of those fender skirts which I've never seen on a 1:1 2+2. If accuracy is important to you, STAY AWAY from this kit! You're better off as Gene said finding a reissue Pontiac GP (correct wheelbase), hacking off the roof, and replacing it with the '66 Buick Wildcat. I picked the Buick as that has a much more accurate B-body hardtop shape than anything I know of out there, including the AMT '65 Bonnevilles (inaccurate side window shape on the one side). Hope this helps!

There's also a subtle but to me noticeable crease that runs parallel to the drip rails, and down along the C pillars on '67-'68 notchbacks. Some of the conversions I've seen miss this crease and use the one from the '66, but that's not correct. I'm a bit interested in this project as a I want to build a long time favorite car-------------this one......... I did build one many years ago, but my conversion wasn't right. I simply grafted the '66 roof onto the lower '68 body. Not quite correct there as the notch's had smaller "hips" than the fastbacks, and to my eye, the rear quarters are a bit taller too.

How do you mix epoxy putty?
MrObsessive replied to fseva's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
You would mix it 50/50 just like any other epoxy. I like to use Popsicle sticks to mix it (sold in packs) and apply it, or some kind of metal stirrer that can be cleaned off. Lacquer thinner should take off any excess, but I wouldn't thin it down with anything------you'll change the properties and it won't work as well. Getting it on your fingers shouldn't be a problem if you're using something else to apply it. I've used it to attach brass to plastic for instance and it does work very well! -
El Ponchomino (Update 10/4 - finished)
MrObsessive replied to RancheroSteve's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Love the brass work Steve! That's a terrific idea to use that instead of plastic since you're working with resin. Speaking of that, I thought at first this WAS a plastic kit that you converted. I've never seen this one before from Jimmy Flintstone------very nicely done! To attach the brass, did you use standard epoxy or JB Weld? I've found that brass doesn't always like the quick set epoxies, but I've used JB Weld in the past to get it to stay put. -
A few years ago, I did a buildup/Modeling 101 on AMT's '49 Mercury. Without going into a long explanation, and since I'm a believer in pictures being worth a thousand words, take a look here, and look at pics #4-11 (and a bit further). I have the pics captioned to explain what I did. Hope this helps!

Cars that SHOULD be in the USA
MrObsessive replied to chunkypeanutbutter's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That was to be part of Pontiac's lineup had they not got the axe. Along with a wagon, new GTO, and possibly a new Firebird. But GM wanted the money so Pontiac had to go...........so sad what might have been. -
Red White & Blue Models
MrObsessive replied to James2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
LOVE that AMX Snake! I owned a '69, but not a red, white and blue one. Those were real TERRORS on the strip!
