What did you see on the road today?
MrObsessive replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Finally had my cell phone at the ready! I saw this on my way home from work just a couple blocks from my house. It's parked in front of a Doctor's office. I'm not sure if the Doc owns it or what as I've seen this parked there all the time on the drive home. Definitely a chop job on the roof, and looks like a fabric sunroof was put in. This looks to be a later model VW-------weren't sliding fabric sunroofs discontinued around 1966 or so? -
Revell (Germany) Ferrari 250SWB! New for October
MrObsessive replied to Matt Bacon's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Hmmm............Revell's site still doesn't answer the million dollar question---------who's tooling was it formerly?? Which one it is will determine whether I buy one or not. -
Alright! Here is a pre-production buildup of what was on Moebius's table yesterday at Toledo. Thanks to Dave for giving me the scoop of when this will be out. Correct me if I'm wrong Dave, but I got that they were to be on the water by the end of the month, and hopefully in stores by the beginning of December? Just in time for the holidays! The builtup looks great and I've GOT to have at least TWO of these! Check out that box art! That alone is worth the price of admission! The red car BTW is the Ventura, and the blue on in the rear is the Catalina. It was hard to get pics of that one but it's got the plainer '61 hubcaps. Not sure when that one will be available.

Here's a few pics I took of it at the Moebius table-------very nice! Not the greatest pics with my iPhone, but I didn't want to be "THAT GUY" and pick it up!

What Happened to Critical Thinking?
MrObsessive replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
OK, i don't want to turn this into a political skunk spraying match, but one of the reasons that a lot of people don't think as critically as they once did can be summed up by one problem-------political correctness. It's sometimes nigh impossible to say or have a thought about something without someone becoming offended. "Feelings" have become more important than what's a plain fact, and until that line of thinking goes by way of the Dodo bird, things will remain the same. -
I should add that this kit is NOT for the faint of heart, and I can see where it could take two kits to make this one right. I did the same as you and turned mine into a D-Type, and one of the biggest challenges was to make sure the engine sat below the cowl line at all times so that the hood would shut. Some careful planning makes for a very nice model such as yours, and this is one I wish would get reissued again sometime. They don't turn up on the 'Bay often and even at model shows, I seldom see 'em.

Beautiful!! I love it!

Wow what a blow!! This is like a kick in the stomach as I saw this thread on my phone heading back from Toledo very early this morning. I just saw John and Amy at this past NNL East and we had a very good conversation. It was the first time I had seen him since '08, and we had some stories to exchange. I too knew John for about 20 years as he came to the CPMCC club meetings quite a bit back in the mid/late '90's. My heart goes out to you Amy.............you and John were inseparable.

Just arrived here in Dayton for the COMA meeting in a couple hours. Really excited to see some of the folks again! Hard to believe it's been SEVEN years since the last time I was here! I hope to pick up a few gems at the toy show tomorrow in Toledo.

What did you see on the road today?
MrObsessive replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL 1954 Chevy Bel Air convertible on I-70 West on my way here to Dayton, OH! He was cruising along at a pretty good clip too! Not bad for that old Stove Bolt Six! I was going too fast in my own ride to take a pic! -
Hilarious!!

Revell (Germany) Ferrari 250SWB! New for October
MrObsessive replied to Matt Bacon's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Good question Snake! If it is the woefully inaccurate ESCI kit, then in the words of the late, great Emily Litella........."Never Mind!" -
Super Beautiful Steve!! Gotta love those "wingless jets" for '61. Well almost---------fins were still in with the Big Three, but Buick's were totally shorn!

1962 Ford Sunliner, Update, 12/4, Finished At Last!
MrObsessive replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Looking good so far Steve! I like the fender skirts from back then, but I don't care for the stainless steel appearance of them. I prefer them to be body color with the stainless at the bottom of the skirts instead. I also like the appearance of the convertibles with the top up, as opposed to the regular steel roof. To me, the '62's steel roof was just too plain and boxy, but that was the style back then. The up-top you have looks to be shaped well. One bugaboo I've always had with kit uptops is when they're not shaped correctly. Some I've seen are too straight and boxy, and not the proper "sag" and "drape" that a ragtop should have. The color you picked seems to be a natural for this era Ford. For whatever reason, black suits this one especially well. I guess it's the more straight edged/no nonsense appearance that makes it so. ;) -
Trying to finish up the '67 Mustang by tomorrow evening! I'll be heading out Friday morning to get the Dayton get-together (COMA). 2008 was the last time I was there, so it'll definitely be a big time change for once! Very early Saturday morning, it's off to Toledo------can't wait!

Revell (Germany) Ferrari 250SWB! New for October
MrObsessive replied to Matt Bacon's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Aaaah! One of my all time favorite Ferraris! I built this out of that years ago.............. I do have another kit, but would sure like a couple more! One can't have too many of these! I hope this is the real deal this time and not a tease. This was supposed to come out a while back, but was cancelled for some reason. -
Sure is! Saw it for the first time in 3D at today's CPMCC meeting.

X3!! Owned a '71 Midget back in the mid '80's that I paid $700 for. It was THE most troublesome car I've ever had before or since! And yes, most of the trouble was electrical, and it would happen at the darndest time. Like when you NEED the headlights to work and they decide they don't want to. Or they are working and they decide to quit working. After six months and when cold weather was setting in again, I had to let it go! It was a very fun car to drive, just too troublesome for my tastes. I couldn't stand it today for a minute------just goes to show how age really changes things!

Revell 1957 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham - New Update Pics
MrObsessive replied to RandyB.'s topic in WIP: Model Cars
Charlie that was in the July 2010 issue of MCM as I have a copy of the story saved on my hard disc. A very interesting story it was! Too bad no one's seen fit to do this car justice as they are VERY rare, and was actually THE most expensive American car one could buy in 1957-58. -

Johan did a '58 Caddy Sixty Special (I have one)-----two totally different cars. Revell's the only kit maker that I've ever seen do the Eldo Brougham, although if memory serves, I believe Gunze did one in 1/32 some years ago. -

MrObsessive replied to RandyB.'s topic in WIP: Model Cars
Wow! I'd say you've got your work certainly cut out for you Randy! Every body panel on that kit would need to be modified in some way to make it close to the pic you have. It's almost as if the engineers tooled that car from memory and not the blueprints they would have had access to back in those days. I'll certainly be following along as this is my favorite Cadillac of the '50's. -
Where did you start building model car kits?
MrObsessive replied to Greg Myers's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
It's Christmas of 1968 and of course, as a seven year old kid I can't wait to see what's under the tree! Hot Wheels had been introduced about six months before, and I got my first set to go along with the bunch of cars I got that came out that premier year. IIRC, it was a "Super Charger Sprint Set". Of course, I couldn't be happier as I absolutely LOVED Hot Wheels! Something else was under that tree though............a couple model kits. One of them if I can remember was a kit of a '68 Chevelle. The box art was nice and pretty, but when I opened the box, I was so disappointed as ALL THESE PIECES HAD TO BE PUT TOGETHER!! I hated it immediately as it reminded me of a puzzle and I HATED puzzles as a kid. I put the kit away and never touched it as the Hot Wheels were more fun and interesting! Fast forward 9-10 years and I'm now a senior in high school. One of my first jobs back then was working at a McDonald's and it seemed I could NEVER get a Saturday off. My Dad even complained about it, so I spoke up and was given one particular weekend off. Well wouldn't you know it, it rained and I mean pouring down rain all day long! What to do?? I got in the car, and went to the local mall and did some window shopping. One of the stores in the mall was a hobby shop called "Allied Hobbies". I got nosy and walked inside, and saw rows and rows and rows of------MODELS!! For whatever reason, my interest was piqued and I was particularly drawn to a Monogram kit. It was their '57 Corvette which I think was newly issued back then. The box art car looked really good, and I wanted that kit as I've always loved '57 'Vettes. I bought it and a tube of glue and the rest is history----I've been hooked ever since! Now that first kit I made a real mess of it........glue spots everywhere, no paint of any sort, ill fitting parts (on my part), but just the fact that it made my mind work in 3D, is something that's still with me to this day. Of course, NEVER in my wildest dreams did I think I'd be building the way I do now way back then. If someone had of jumped out of 2015, and told me I'd be doing superdetailing, I would have thought them totally insane! Just goes to show the things we hated as kids can sometimes turn into the things we're passionate about as we get older. -
New Site/Forum Look
MrObsessive replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I recently upgraded too, and what I do is turn the phone sideways, and it displays as normal. Weird, but that works for me. There will be some sites that aren't going to display properly until they get up to speed with IOS 9.
