  1. Those are also known as "stanchions" in the train world. I've used them in the past for scratchbuilding working steering and front suspensions on my '58 Chevy as an example................ You'll be hooked on 'em once you've tried 'em!
  2. Ahh! I got one right! One of the giveaways for me was the headlights not quite lined up parallel to each other. Particularly the one on the passenger side seems to "tilt up" somewhat. I doubt a real Bugatti worth millions would have such an error like that, but millionaires can be eccentric!
  3. Greg, I like where this is going! Using the '71 Charger's chassis is a good idea as ChryCorp cars were pretty much the same underneath from '71 on. They just need to be changed a little to suit different models. The inner fenders as well as the firewall would be a good choice too as they were about identical. Somewhere on my hard disc I have the original pics of what Frank did to the '71 Charger chassis when I was on the HH board............need to try and find 'em 'cuz they're going to come in handy for me down the road!

  5. You can also thank our falling US dollar for the high per barrel oil prices as well. Everytime our dollar falls by 1%..........the price of a barrel of oil goes up $4.
  6. At a station a couple blocks from me it's been running $3.60 a gallon for regular. Now that was on Monday morning when I last past the station on my way home from work. It may have gone higher since then.........I've been home from work a couple days due to some somewhat major dental work. Thankfully, I'm only 5 miles from the job, and I drive a Saturn Ion coupe.............but I see no end in sight as oil futures are now $123 a barrel!
  7. Now that is one sharp convertible! I originally was going to do a convertible..............but then decided on the hardtop when I saw someone offering a started conversion on the 'bay using the Lindberg '53 Ford roof. I bought that one which is what turned into this project, but it needed a total "roofectomy" when the conversion wasn't to my liking. This one has been a cliff hanger at times and trust me, my next project will be a LOT tamer!

  9. Now that's funny!! Cruz, you're quite welcome! I knew you'd want it as they're just not seen everyday, and I'm sure George appreciated you buying it from him. I was "groking" my 'Cuda over the weekend.................I've got some plans for it, but don't have a timeline as to when I'll build it. I do know it'll have a street Hemi WITHOUT the billboards!

  11. Wow! That '67 Marlin is a RARE bird! I've got a mint original unbuilt Johan '67 Ambassador kit................I LOVE the '67 Marlins, and was very tempted to cut up the kit to turn it into one. I don't have the guts though because the kit is so nice!
  12. Yup! Regency Purple was a 1954-55 color............VERY rare! I've only ever seen one in my whole life! I wanted to paint it something unique other than the turquoise and greens that are common to this car.
  13. It's pretty thinned out as it is for it to come out of the can...........what Len said is very important! Let it gas out before you start to airbrush, otherwise you'll have tiny air bubbles all over your paint job! That's one of the things that's turned me off to Tamiya's paint for airbrushing-------there's so much propellant in the can. You can see it when it goes into your jar.........kinda like carbonation in your glass of soda with the bubbles popping one by one.
  14. Anton, to echo what Lee said, spray painting is the best for a good finish. In fact, anything that will be visible to the casual observer should be spray painted. As far as your engines, you might be able to get away with brush painting, but I've found that the water based acrylics such as what Tamiya makes are the best for brush painting. When thinned properly, there should be no visible brush strokes, but the drying time can leave a lot to be desired-----as they can take a while to thoroughly dry. I personally airbrush 99% of what is seen by others, including engine blocks and manifolds, but I've been doing this for too long! Hope you post your progress as you go along, and any further questions just ask!
  15. It's been too long between updates------but I've not been much in a building mood since the weather's been getting nicer! Anyway, I figure it's high time to get a few more things done such as latching the doors, and finally get some paint on it! Here are my trademark watch pin latches. These are a bit smaller than the ones I used in the Turbine Car, thus aren't as stiff to open and close the doors............ I'll add some bolt detail around the pins so the door jambs don't look so naked.........not to mention making sure the doors sit as straight and true as possible in the openings without binding. Well, it's finally time for final primering and painting...............as y'all know this'll be a two tone paint job, and I gotta admit, they're the least favorite of the types of paint jobs I like to do. This particular car though screams for two tone paint because of the trim and I remember seeing very few '55 Fords as a kid that were not two toned. So here we go............. I like to spray the lighter colors first in a two tone so I made sure the inside of the door jambs were painted the Snowshoe White, then let it sit for a couple days.............. I couldn't resist mocking up the car with the chassis and wheels after the Regency Purple was sprayed and cured........... There's a couple spots I have to touch up.......... HOLD THE PHONE!! I didn't like the very faint ghosting of the bodywork on the roof where it was split to widen it, so I got out my foam rubber sanding block and 400 grit sandpaper and went to town on the finish. I then airbrushed a few more coats on the roof to even things out. AAAHHH much better! I still need to clearcoat......especially the purple because it's metallic. The Snowshoe White, I'll simply rub out and polish because it's a solid color. If I get the ambition, I'll try to get everything clearcoated, polished and rubbed out, and then foiled so I can get the front and rear glass in. In the meantime, I almost forgot that I have to modify the rear bumper as it's different than the kit based '56. Oh well, I've gotten this far with it...........I CAN'T stop now! Thanks for lookin'!

  17. Super Fine Job Rob!! I'm an AMC man at heart having once owned a 1:1 '69 AMX.................so I couldn't ignore this one! AMC had plans continue the 2 seat AMX into 1971 with the new front end and fender bulges, but keep the same body aft of the A pillars. But, AMC saw the writing on the wall as the Muscle Car era was winding down, so it was never to be. It's too bad there's no equivalent to this car today from an independent like AMC was. It made the automotive landscape that much more interesting back then-------we have so much of a "sameness" in too many cars today.
  18. Dave, I built one in the early '90's and while it's not a difficult kit, patience is needed especially when hinging the doors. Mine swing out as intended, but don't swing out wide enough for my liking. Some manipulation of the hinges may be needed-------but other than that there were no major surprises. I built mine in the same color as the one on the box.................If I get time, maybe I can find it and dig it out and snap a few pics of it.
  19. I agree with Darrell...................I'm having painting trouble on my '55, but it doesn't need a total dunking. The trouble is around the bodywork I did on the roof..........I REFUSE to give up!! That color does look terrific Mike...........from the pics it doesn't look bad at all, but we're our own worst critics.
  20. Here's another place that I've personally bought paint from. In fact the '55 Ford I'm painting this week, I've got from them. The only drawback is you have to be very careful of what clearcoat to use over it. I've gone the safe route and have used Tamiya Acrylic Clear with no surprises.
  21. I'm thinking about going back to school...............I'd love to take the Microsoft MCSE course.......even took the online entry test that's being offered by a local school here. I passed with flying colors, went down to talk to the guy about the course------and was absolutely bowled over when he said the course was $24,000 FOR SIX MONTHS!! Needless to say, I don't think I'll be attending that school anytime soon..............I was told that my job would send me to school but the catch is I have to keep at least a C+ average. That may be the route I'll go, but we'll see. As far as TV, there are only a few programs I'll watch during the week-----Autoline Detroit, Motorweek, and of course gotta catch "Ghost Whisperer" on Friday nights! Actually I like to watch Jennifer Love Hewitt! For "background noise" (Although I am listening) I'll tune in to talk radio while I'm on the computer or building something.

  24. Nice! You can't go wrong with a Revell '69 Camaro................I think one of their best kits ever, and I have yet to build one! That orange sure is bright in the outdoors!
