  1. Actually a number of them do that.............this particular fellow we're talking about, his prices were waaaaay up there! True, there was a BIN and someone could offer what they thought was a fair price, but why go through the hassle of ruffling feathers for folks to see something they really want, and have to "talk down" the price? My problem with him is when someone questioned it, he got downright mean! Sorry, but I've got too many other things to worry about than someone getting very upset, and then put what I said on their auction page as a way to "get even". I won't transact with someone like that.
  2. Aaahh! That’s what that is! I knew an actual kit didn’t exist, but didn’t know there was a Camaro inside! ?? Learn something new every day!
  3. That "gag"of a kit has been around for years. I'm going to say since the early '00's. Pretty sure no such kit exists otherwise it would be among the priciest ever out there. Also the link isn't working.......taken down already??
  4. I've bought from vintagemodecarparts, Sportfuryus, floyd426Rt (didn't know he was gone ), and I've gotten very good service out of all. However, PJtoys I had a BIG problem with as he came on this board and IMO was VERY curt and not so nice. We have a right to voice (politely) a disagreement about someone's pricing or how they treat their customers. To come on a forum such as this and frankly belittle anyone that disagrees will not set well with most. IIRC, I made a comment about a part he was selling..........I believe it was either a radiator shroud, or something to that effect for Monogram's 1/8 scale Trans Am. I was FLOORED for what he was asking price wise and I pointed it out here on the board. He came on here VERY defensive pretty much telling us that if we don't like it, we can just **** Off. Well, you just lost a potential customer (myself) as I did see some other things that looked interesting, but no way would I ever do a transaction with someone with that attitude. I don't get the reason for pricing things so high and then not expect there to be backlash from someone. True no one has to buy it, but then when questioned why the nasty attitude?? If it's a way to weed out the chaff, well that's a very poor way of doing it. So if he's gone, well that's how it goes! Yeah I noticed that too. We daren't say his name as it can cause the board to literally EXPLODE!
  5. I always have to wonder if Chevy had the Corvair in mind when they were planning the Vega in the late '60's. Something about the styling says Corvair to me, and I wonder if indeed this was to be the next gen 'Vair in the very early stages till they decided to go conventional front engine/rear drive.
  6. I was surrounded by these cars literally as a kid in the '60's as I knew of several family friends that owned Corvairs. I had an Uncle that lived and breathed these cars as I swear he owned practically every single Corvair model Chevrolet made at some point. He still had a Corvair up until he passed away back in '09........a '66 Monza two door hardtop which he treated like a baby. "NO ONE drives the Corvair except me!" He used to say. Nice pair of models and yes, Nader's press didn't help the Corvair any. I don't remember my Uncle ever complaining about the quirks of the car, but then he was one of those kind of guys that could fix anything, and he certainly knew Corvairs inside out. I've got a bunch of Corvairs in my stash including a '66 annual that I should build as a tribute car sometime to him. He'd be tickled by this thread as he could talk about the cars all day. Thanks for posting!
  7. I'd go with the Caddy. I still don't like how Monogram did the top on their '59 Chevy. The Caddy is nicer and not so "flat" looking. You'll have to get rid of the vinyl roof texturing though.........I've never seen a '59 Invicta with that.
  8. Welcome aboard! As was said by Tom, this IS the best modeling board on the 'net! Feel free to post work in progress pics as you go along!
  9. Years ago, I went to a local Corvair show and a fellow had a '65 or '66 two door hardtop which had a big block V8 sitting literally just behind the front seats. What was crazy was there was no firewall between the engine and the seats, so you're sitting there hearing this VERY LOUD engine for the entire ride! Looked neat, but that had to be a BEAR to drive in summer traffic with no air conditioning and all that noise!
  10. That looks to be an actual annual kit as opposed to a promo. Different plastic used (styrene for the kits) than the promos which used "Cycolac" or something like that which warped terribly. Sounds like whoever painted that way back when used actual automotive lacquer which explains why it's terribly difficult to strip. The paint has etched itself into the plastic, and short of sanding it out where the tough spots are, I'm not sure what else can be done. Yes, the Monogram '59 Chevy up-top should work with some tweaking. All GM '59-'60 top frames were about the same between the divisions, and they all used the same convertible windshield frame. That's what I have planned for my '59------got all the bits and pieces to build it, it's just not struck my fancy as of yet since I built the hardtop years ago.
  11. Bruce, how's the body on that? Each time I've seen one of those they appear mildly to severely warped. I've got a '59 hardtop that I got from Paul Hettick (Robbbbbb57 on eBay) years ago that could stand a resto. Unfortunately, one of the C pillars is broken so it's a perfect candidate for turning it into a convertible. It has the 'vert interior anyway, so there's some work saved!
  12. Still plugging away at the Shelby Green Hornet. Got a lot of the interior done including painting the seats, and got the green embossing powder on the interior floor for carpeting. I've hit a road block though as I'm starting to work on the dash however. l know that I bought another set of gauge faces from Bestmodelcarparts on eBay, but I'll be darned if I can't find them! So, just last night I had to order another set..........thankfully he had two more sets available, now he's down to one! I don't want to do any drilling out of the dash until I get those gauges. He dropped me a line letting me know that they'll be in the mail tomorrow. I should get them by mid week. No pics as of yet, maybe I can do an update before long. This time of year with outside stuff to do with the house, and we just had some VERY NASTY rains here recently which led once again to my basement taking on water. Not like 2011, but of course the sump pump quit working right at the height of the storms, and I spent most of the day yesterday bailing out water. Got a new pump in, and all's well--------------I hope as it is working! Working third shift now, I've had to rearrange the model time so things are getting "normal" for me as time goes on.
  13. Now you know you're getting old when you can name each and every one of those cars in that pic........right down to the year and model. Hard to believe that pic is nearly FIFTY YEARS OLD! I was a bit too young for Woodstock (Eight at the time) but I knew of friends of my younger Aunts and Uncles that did go and I heard the stories!
  14. Human proportions notwithstanding, that old Aurora box art is 100% better than Revell's hands down! Strictly looking at the Jag, they got the proportions in my view pretty much spot on for a drawing. Compared to this................ Not so much. If the artist had perhaps drew the car as a fuller 3/4 view, then it may have come out a bit better. I don't want to knock whoever did that box art-----I haven't drawn a car in quite some time, I just think more time could have been spent to make the subject matter that much more appealing. Now what's IN the box? Hmmm.........I just wish it were something else like a '77 T-Bird, '73 Ranchero............
  15. Well, just goes to show you have to be at the right place at the right time! Right after I posted my last message, I headed over to eBay to see if any of these are available. Just so happens there was as the auction was ending in three hours. The auction was not in the usual category such as Vintage, but in the "sports" section or something like that. There were only two bidders, and I got it for $27.00 plus shipping. This was the in the "Those Famous Fords" box and was a little tired looking, but the kit was complete and was untouched. Sooooo............now I have a kit that I've been wanting for awhile, and now I have all the IMC kits that were in this series.........except the Ford "J" car which I'm not that crazy about that one.
  16. Down the road, I'd like to snag one of these.........I have all the other IMC race cars 'cept this one. I'll keep checkin' the 'Bay!
  17. I've got a very restorable Rebel, but the ambition hasn't struck me yet to do anything with it. I've got its original box too! No I don't wanna part with it.......these can be hard to find at times, and then when they do turn up-----prices can be outrageous! This just reinforces my thinking that when ANY Johan turns up, and the price is right, GRAB IT! If you wait, guarantee within minutes it'll be gone! And I'm not just talking about eBay........I've seen this happen at shows too.
  18. Ron! I hope you saved that roof section! Because you can always use it as a base for a four door '65-'66 Chevy Impala Sport Sedan! Same basic profile, just some tweaks here and there to make it right. Also, this kit lends itself as you've shown to a very nice convertible. Malibu SS, or one with a good 'ole straight six in it, with dog dish hubcaps.
  19. I never paid attention to the crown of the roof. I've got plenty of pics of that car in a folder on my hard disc, so I'll take a real close look. As far as turning the Z-16 into a regular Chevelle, didn't Model Car Garage make a PE set that would help in that? I could have swore I bought a set from Bob years ago, but it's buried on one of those kit boxes I think. Other than the taillights and the rear trim panel, I can't see what else would be needed as far as any changes.
  20. I've had this kit ever since it came out (I think I have two) and for whatever reason, I've never built it. It's not that it's necessarily boring, it's just something that hasn't struck my "gotta build it" chord...........yet. About that top............I always thought that the shape of the rear quarter windows were not quite right----particularly in the upper portion of the drip rail. Too straight across where there should be a slight arc. Monogram's '64 GTO suffers from this same malady too making the DLO too "blocky". It also appears that the back window might be a bit short, but that may be due to the rear upper window line not having that correct arc. If I ever get to building a Z-16, it's gotta have some decent goldlines like the box art car. I don't know who makes a decent set these days though. To me along with those mags really "makes" the car!
  21. Ha! Look also at '58 to '68! Talk about literal night and day! Very nice job on this '58..........that chrome trim is no joke, and I see you got those side "pitchforks" correct!
  22. Michael, you're doing very well for someone that's branching out and trying new things! You mentioned the use of 3D printing in model building-----over the last few years, I've been seeing more and more use of 3D printed parts in WIP's and in fact there's a thread here in the "Big Boyz" section where someone is building a 1/8(?) scale '66 Nova. I've been saying that it's the future of model building as we get ever more esoteric in what we want to build, and the model companies here in the states are having to struggle with getting new tooling done. I do have a suggestion when it comes to your paint, and this is a personal preference of mine. It might be a very good idea if you build everything up first (engine, chassis, interior) then paint your body. This will lessen the chance that there are any mishaps, and that you'll know everything will fit without a struggle and perhaps damaging the paint. If you look at a 1:1 restoration, that's pretty much how they do it. The entire car gets restored basically from the inside out. Bodywork, engine, chassis including any suspension work, interior, then it's off to get 'er painted. Just my 2¢ worth as I've been building this way for quite some time, and it's saved me a lot of grief when I hit a stumbling block as to why something's not fitting right. Keep us posted!
  23. Wow................shocked to see this. I've run into Albert a number of times over the years, and I had no idea he was ill until I saw a recent post on the Spotlight board. I'll have to carve out some time somewhere down the road, and build that '62 Pontiac kit. Albert REALLY loved that car, and I'd even like to paint it in the color of his. Here's a pic of Albert, Ted "Chopper" Lear, and myself at the Toledo NNL back in I believe 2008. The last time I was there till just a couple years ago. Yes, that's a MUCH bigger me in that pic with the bushy "mountain man" beard and all! RIP Albert........you truly were one of the good ones.
