  1. In a word......never. That was a phantom wish kit photoshopped. One can dream though!
  2. Ok, I've seen that one, and my kit was exactly like that so it was a Fujimi. $168?? Hmmm........if the shipping wasn't so high I might consider that. BUT! I could really go fancy and grab the Model Factory Hiro one! Smaller scale, but much more incredible detail than Fujimi's 1/16 scale one. Of course it's probably $100 more, but MFH kits are worth every penny!
  3. LOVE THIS and I'd love to see it come back! The original GTS coupes are one of my favorite cars of the '90's! As much as I love them though, I literally CANNOT sit in them! Once in, my head is scrunched right against the roof despite the double-bubble design.
  4. I had the 1/16 Doyusha kit of this several years ago, and now regret that I sold it. A fella from Australia got it from me, and now to find another one can cost some serious coin! Yeah, I'd like to see this reissued BIG TIME!
  5. Definitely! Add to that it seems that they ALWAYS sit too high! I think that a lot of this is due to how the models are engineered. Interiors that sit on platforms when the 1:1's don't have a "platform". The interior is literally on the flip side of your chassis floor. This leads to "stacking" and I think results in the ride height being just too high compared to the 1:1. One model that's a DEFINITE must fix in this regard is Monogram's '66 Shelby Mustang. If I ever get around to building one of those, the ride height is an absolute MUST fix endeavor as that's bugged me ever since that kit debuted.
  6. True, but Johan’s car was to represent the racer which didn’t have the vinyl top. ? The roofline shape to me is much more accurate than Monogram’s IMO.
  7. Chris, I've done that in the past................the frustration was trying to get it to post after many tries. There is an auto save function on the board, but as I found out the other day, even that doesn't always work. When the board took a dump, it didn't save what I had when things came back up, however when I tried posting from my desktop when I was responding to another post, there was my OLD post I tried to put up days ago still there. Go figure....... I'll try that again in the future, but if I keep getting the 404 Error, EX145 Error or whatever........I'm just gonna call it a day and move on.
  8. Compare the C pillars between the Monogram body and the Johan one. Johan's C pillar has the correct "broadness" due to how the back window was filled in by that plug. Monogram's isn't quite right in that regard and to my eyes looks too much like their regular '70 Road Runner. That's how I'm able to tell in a millisecond if someone on eBay is trying to pass off a Monogram Superbird as a Johan.
  9. All I'll say about that car is that is one real oddball------one that's not often seen anymore..........anywhere!
  10. YES!! First time since early yesterday afternoon that I’ve been able to view a thread!! ??? What gives with the CONSTANT board glitches??
  11. Very nice conversion! But remember we were used to driving these big tanks around back in those days! I learned to drive in my Stepdad's 1969 Lincoln Continental Mark III and while it was not a big as that Caddy............you had to be mindful of the size of the car. I took my Driver's Ed test in a behemoth mid '70s Chevy Caprice! I envy the kids that have these little tiny cars I see them have for Driver's Ed.........how come I couldn't have had something that little back then?? OTOH, I see folks driving these huge Expeditions, and Escalades today, so really have things changed all that much? We've just switched from cars to trucks now. EDIT: BTW, I want to add that your a braver man than I Grzegorz! I have this kit from the Modelhaus also, but I couldn't bring myself into hacking it all up! They'll become scarcer than hen's teeth in no time if not so already!
  12. For not having built a thing in 22 years, I'd say you haven't missed a beat! VERY clean build, and looks terrific! Yeah, I wonder who in the GM board room thought that was a good idea to put the tach essentially on the floor?? Who looks down at the tach?? Oh well, at LEAST it was available though, I can almost bet that also served as the placement for a clock that more than a few had than the tach.
  13. I'm wondering if there's a glitch particularly with this thread and the text box? This is no lie.............just now right before I wanted to type here, this text box STILL HAD the text from when I tried to post a couple weeks ago! Out of curiosity, I wanted to see if it would now post-------no dice, I still got the 404 Error. I hope I didn't come off as being a bit terse with my previous post. I can't tell you though how ultimately frustrating it was to compose that post for an hour or longer (a lot of it was posting just for Fotki), only to have the page give me the 404 Error message. It was really a copy and paste job from Fotki, and there were no more than 10 pics that were in that particular post, so I don't think it was a matter of exceeding the picture limit. Just the same, I think from here on out, I may only post one or two pics, and then give an embedded link for you folks to see the rest. Fotki is sort of an online diary for me, so you'll get all the descriptions with most pics that are put up. JC, Shaun, and Mike............thanks so much for the nice words! JC, it was good to run into you at the NNL East. Not sure I'll be making it next year as that's around the time when the GSLMCC is happening. I'll need to keep an eye on the funds as GSL may be a road trip for me as there's someone in Illinois that may be riding along. HOPEFULLY she'll be all done by then!
  14. Fellas, I just spent one whole hour + trying to give a detailed update of what I've done to the car, only for the board to take a total dump. That's it. I'll no longer post updates here but just give a link to Fotki. If you'd like, you can check it out here. I'm through with spending time going through the trouble, only for it to be a wasted effort.
  15. Yikes! Took me a while to find this thread! I finally got the body for this beast in the mail the other day! Only a couple more shipments to go, and the subscription is done! To give you an idea how big (and heavy!) the body alone is.....here are a couple pics I took of it today. Those of you that know me know that I don't have particularly small hands! This was one HEAVY CASTING just to hold up for the camera! I can imagine the whole works once it's totally built will weight probably over 20 pounds, as the chassis is also solid metal. Then there's this............................... ALL of those brown boxes you see are all the parts it'll take to get this beast built! Each one of them is like a mini magazine featuring a muscle car of the month, as well as the instructions for a particular step. I may not necessarily build this in the sequence they suggest (what else is new? ), as there are some things that are screaming out for better detail..........the engine for example. I have NO CLUE when I'll get to starting it, but I can tell you that no one else will kit a 1/8 scale 1967 Shelby Mustang anytime soon, and I can best believe that this will probably be a multi-year build as I won't do mine exactly "out of the box". Of course I won't hijack this thread here since it belongs to the original OP.....this will have its own topic in this category. I just wanted to give you guys a heads up as to how huge this thing is for those of you that have might have a subscription, but are months away from getting the body and related parts. Yeah, the corner of my build room needs some organizing! What I'll probably end up doing for now is take those boxes up to my third floor so they don't suck up quite so much space, not to mention I'll have to totally rearrange the work table as this will take up quite a bit of real estate just to get parts built. I've seen these finished and built up already on YouTube, and also on the Model Space Forums, and they ARE VERY impressive when totally done! I have to admit that I'm glad also this comes prepainted.............I'd have to otherwise paint this outside as there's no way that monster would fit in my paint booth!
  16. Oh yeah! Johan's bodies for the most part were always dead on accurate! Monogram's not so much. I've seen people on eBay try to pass off a Monogram Superbird as a Johan and the dead giveaway for me in a millisecond is the roofline. Monogram never got that quite right IMO (lifted right off their '70 Road Runner/GTX and the two ARE different), and I've even gone to lengths to contact them to let them know as much as someone who's not looking very closely can easily be fooled. Monogram did get the nose of that car correct though as it's smooth like the 1:1, and not that "decal indentation" that Johan put on theirs. I have to wonder though if that was the original shape of the nose from Chrysler's blueprints, and Johan went with that only for Mopar to change up at the 11th hour. Hmmm............
  17. Don't I know it! I once owned (early '80's) a '65 Dart Convertible with a slant six. One time during a heavy rain, I wanted to just zip through what I thought was just a puddle of water. Nope! The water was high enough that it splashed underneath the engine and just enough to zap the distributor. Sure enough, I'm sitting there waiting for the rainstorm to calm down enough so I could take things apart and dry things out. But hey........as a 22 year old I didn't think twice about things like that back then! Nowadays as I'm a "bit older and wiser", I sure DO think twice about driving through standing water. As they say........."Looks can be deceiving!"
  18. Steve, that one looks VERY much like mine, but according to the auction (I save all of them in a folder in my hard disc) I sold mine back in May of '07. Mine had a very slight lean to the roof A pillars (darn flat boxes!), but when you put in the glass, it straightened out with no trouble. That wouldn't have been long after I moved to the house I'm in now..........it could have been sold for something I wanted for the house, I can't remember now. Hard to believe it's been that long now! As I mentioned I do have a couple of the '68 hardtops which I actually like a bit better than the '67's.
  19. Back in early '08, the one I sat in at our local auto show----that one did have air, but not much else as far as creature comforts. What was also off putting besides the fact that you could not get one here with the panoramic windshield was the cost! Something like $20,000 for what I thought was a very spartan interior. Compared to just over $14,000 that my Ion Quadcoupe cost in '04, I thought that was a HUGE jump in price in just a few short model years, although the Astra was a clean sheet of paper for Saturn as the Ion had been discontinued ending with the '07's.Then what does GM do the following year?? Pull the plug on the entire works taking those cars with it. Yeah, I know they were the victim of the whole bankruptcy thing.........another discussion for another time, but it was a shame just the same. Oh well..........
  20. That's true to an extent...........but you can always stop when you want and come back to it later. Can't do that on the job though as that can be firing time!
  21. Yup! I'm one of those that does care about what's underneath............just one of my "Obsessions" in this hobby I suppose among other things. The Shelby I'm working on has really tested my patience when it came to the chassis and suspension details as there was NOTHING that came close to what that IRS looked like. FINALLY I got it done, so I've moved on to the interior, and yup............gotta scratchbuild some things for that too! Such is the fun in this hobby!
  22. Wow.........tough choice! This car is on my someday list as I have a Johan one as a very good rebuilder, with a Daytona kit for the donor chassis and such. I've already built the Daytona as a Hemi, but since either of those in 1:1 is very rare with those, I'd say go for the Hemi as opposed to the 440. I've got other Mopars that can be built ('70 Dodge Super Bee as 500 model for instance) that can be made with the 440 so nothing will really go to waste.
  23. I wondered about that too the first time I saw it, but there was a built in pullover shade with visors if things got a little too sunny and toasty.
  24. When Saturn introduced the new Astra for 2008, I went to go look at one at our local auto show. I really wanted one (I had an Ion Quadcoupe for several years), as I absolutely LOVED the optional windshield the Euro versions had. That idea was shot down when the dealer told me that the American spec cars would NOT be getting that windshield. Seems as though the Safety Nazis along with some embedded in the insurance agencies decried that feature ever showing up on any of those that were built for here, which turned out to be very few as I see. Too bad, as that's one of the neatest styling features IMO that I had seen on a car in a long time, and I do believe the very newest Opels in Europe still have the panoramic windshield as an option.
