  1. Thanks again for the kind comments. Brian, I'm comfortable with the color of the plug wires. The orange is pretty close to what I've seen in color shots of the motor in several references I have. They do appear to be a bit bright due to the light I used for the pictures and the actual color is toned down a bit in normal light. Although I've seen the intakes in black I wished I would have set them off a bit more. Maybe a brown wash is what they need to give a more period-correct tone. I'll look at that. Not adding those number lights has bugged me to the point that, although the model is on my shelf, the chrome sprue that contains the lights from the kit is still on my workbench. I didn't use the kit parts because I thought they were overscale but plan to do something. Maybe stripping the chrome and painting them aluminum will make them look better. I definitely agree they need to be added. Thanks for your feedback.

  5. Thanks for the kind words, Guys. Mark, the engine has 12 cylinders with 2 plugs per cylinder. As you assumed, there's one distributor for each side of the engine.
  6. This is a model of the first Le Mans winner for Porsche, the 917K driven by Richard Attwood and Hans Hermann in 1970. It's the Fujimi kit with the Historic Racing Miniatures engine, a corrected rear body section by Renaissance, some p/e details and decals from Studio 27, and a number of scratchbuilt and parts box details added to the engine compartment. Overall, the the added details went together well with the base kit, but unfortunately the engine cover doesn't fit as well as I'd like. This isn't a huge problem for me because I plan to display the model with the back end opened up, but I want to put the cover back on occasionally to show off the car's great lines. The model is far from perfect, but I was glad to add this important car to my shelf. All comments and constructive criticism are welcome. Thanks for looking!

  9. Thanks again for all the kind feedback, Guys. Steve, sorry but I don't have any info on MG Models. When I bought the wheels about 15 years ago it was a one man operation in Italy. I did a quick search just now and can't find anything, so he may no longer be in business. If you're looking for photoetched wire wheels, KA Models, Model Factory Hiro, and Detail Master all have really nice sets with turned aluminum rims. In fact, they're actually nicer than the MG ones in that the spokes are finer and better represent real wires. If you are looking for real wires you might check out the Facebook page for Fernando Pinto Models of Portugal. He has several 1/24 sets available and he uses wire for his spokes. The rims and tires are resin, and may need some cleanup, but I've got a couple of his kits with wire wheels and you can get them to look pretty nice.   12. This is a model of the Mercedes Benz 300SLR driven by Sterling Moss and Juan Fangio in the 1955 24 Hours of Le Mans. Unfortunately, the worst accident in racing history occurred at this race with over 80 people being killed as the #20 car, otherwise identical to this one driven by Pierre Levegh, went airborne into the crowd and disintegrated. About 7 hours later, while Moss was in the lead, Mercedes withdrew its remaining two cars, leaving the race for Mike Hawthorn to win in a D-Type Jaguar. Mercedes did not return a factory team to Le Mans until 1989. The model is based on the Monogram kit of the car that raced in the Mille Migia. The body was replaced with the resin one from Historic Racing Miniatures that included the mods for Le Mans, primarily the big wind brake behind the cockpit. The engine was wired and plumbed and includes a scratchbuilt fuel injection module. The instrument panel was detailed and the exhaust pipes replaced with aluminum tube. Wire wheels and tires are from MG Models, headlights and fog lights from Czech Truck Model, paint from MCW, and decals from V-R-M. I hope you enjoy the pictures.   18. Does anyone have a source for '70's license plates in 1/25 scale? Specifically I'm looking for 1970 Texas plates. I'd prefer them to be customizable, but I can even use ones with pre-printed numbers. I've tried Acme.com and they don't have what I'm looking for. Any other web sites or sources for aftermarket plate decals would be appreciated. Thanks!

  22. This is the Ebbro 1/20 Lotus 49. The model represents the car Jim Clark drove to a win in the 1967 Dutch Grand Prix. The kit was a bit fiddly in parts (more Hasegawa than Tamiya) but went together well overall. I added some details to the cockpit and engine, including the Acu-Stion intake trumpets and screens, as well as some wiring and plumbing. I also added a distributor and fuel block but they're buried between the intakes and don't show in the pictures (but I know they're there!). Paint is Tamiya Spray Racing Green decanted and airbrushed. The kit chrome was stripped and resprayed with Alclad Polished Aluminum. All comments and constructive criticism are welcome.   23. Really outstanding work, Adam. Your detail work is great and the finish on your model is just right. One question. You did a great job on painting the hubcaps around he Mercedes logo. Did you use any special technique other than a fine brush and a steady hand? Congratulations on a really nice build.
  24. I don't have any experience with the Jaguar, but I've built the Mercedes Gullwing and Porsche 356 Speedster and both were outstanding kits. Good job on picking up the Jag. I've been looking for one for a while.
  25. Really nice build. I've had my eye on the Revell Germany Bentley Blower kit. Is it the same as the Heller kit?
