  1. Yes, Jim, throw that Squadron junk away!!! I ruined an Italeri Freightliner FLD 120 using the green junk, I was trying to make a one piece sleeper and cab like a truck I drove, and it warped the front sleeper wall so badly the kit is just parts! I have never used any of their junk putty again. I've been using Bondo Glazing and Spot putty with very good results, and it does very well with smaller areas where you don't need to mix a lot of regular Bondo. I used it on the roof of my Ford's sleeper, along with regular Bondo, and have not had any ghosting issues.
  2. Yeah, no levitation tricks, just some simple wire, just like the "real" magicians!!
  3. Thank you very much for the pics, Ken. FINALLY!
  4. You're welcome, Mike, and I'm happy you like my little slice of heaven. Oh, and by the way, it was cheap, too! I pieced it together from a student type desk I found at a church rumage sale for a couple bucks, an old TV stand the better half's parents were getting rid of, and the hutch I bought at an auction for $25. It was actually a happy little accident, because when I bought the hutch, I thought it was both the desk and hutch, because I looked at the nice picture on the box and didn't see the "Desk not Included" part till I was dragging the box in the house! I do like trying to be orginized, even though sometimes it looks like a tornado just went though it! Oh, and to let you in on my secret of my levitating engine, it's because I'M MAGIC!!! No, seriously, what the big model boxes are hiding is the, as Paul Harvey would say, the rest of the story. Here's the rest of the story: You just can't see the coat hanger stuck in the tailshaft of the transmission! Yes, that is a very big engine, too, if you look close in my desk pic, you can see the box for the 1/8 scale Trans Am it goes in.
  5. Yes, same here. I'm not knocking any of the resin casters, but with the way things are today, I would much rather pay $70-$80 for a complete kit rather than the nearly $150-$200 for the resin and the donor kit needed to finish it. Of course, it depends on how badly I want to build a certain truck, too!

Now, see, I learned something today! Romell, both you and Steve are great builders, and shows how great this forum is! Steve's build was an inspiration to you, and seeing your Chevelle build in progress and also Steve's great build is an inspiration to me to start improving my skills more!
  7. Thanks, Phillip, I'll let my friend know you like it! I just happened to have pics of it and thought it fit, since there's a 57 under there somewhere!
  8. Ok, after seeing the other pics, I guess I'll play too! Here's just a small sample of my collection. There are two other 3 shelf bookcases (where the upside down Trumpeter box is) filled to overflowing and even more under the shelf where the bigger boxes are, and that doesn't even include everything stuffed in my workbench and hutch! I have more models than shelves!!
  9. Colby, like J. Sauber said, I love the outdoor photo, and I love the scaled down load of wood, too! Nice work! I just have one question, couldn't you find some scaled down snowflakes!?!?
  10. Here's a couple other "Workbench" threads, Mike. Even though they are much newer than February, they should help you out. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=32014&hl=workbench&st=0 http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=32960&st=0&p=331876&hl=workbench&fromsearch=1&#entry331876 Also, there is this one called "Workbench Saturdays", and from the date, may be the one you're looking for. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=24630&hl=workbench&st=0
  11. I'm not sure if that was the one Mike was actually referring to, Ed, but that would help, too. There have been a few threads that were posted with workbench ideas, but darned if I could find them! I think this might be in the thread Ed put the link up to, but to help you out, Mike, here's a pic of my "little slice of heaven"!
  12. I know most of the guys here have said before to be 100% prototypically correct, Peterbilt engines, up to the early 80s, were all painted white, regardless of the engine manufacture. Of course, though, if you want to build it like a rebuilt or second engine, Cat yellow would be correct for the Revell snap 359 and Cummins beige would be correct for Revell of Germany's 359 kit.
  13. Rob, I think a friend of mine has your Gunslinger beat! This is what he came up with after watching "The Road Warrior" and having a Boyd's CheZoom, a Nato missile set and a few other spare parts laying around! Gunslinger, meet the Road Killer!
  14. Another good BMF stand-in, and even cheaper than chrome duct tape, is good old household aluminum foil. The only downfall is there is no adhesive on it, but that is cheaply fixed, too. I used aluminum foil on this trailer, and only have about $5 in the entire foil job, both sides and the roof are all foiled. That is another plus of the aluminum foil, because the sides I used the shiny side of the foil to replicate a stainless steel style trailer, but to replicate the duller aluminum roof, I just used the dull side of the foil. By the way, this was the adhesive I used for the foil, it is sprayable and I think this can was only about 3 bucks.
  15. I would have to say my favorite build to date is my current project, a custom Ford LTL 9000 truck. I've been building this for a CBP on another site, but I have the WIP here, too, and it really has been a test bed for many new techniques I've never attempted before. It has a numerous amount of firsts for me, including being the first large sleeper conversion and stretched frame I've attempted, something I've always wanted to do but have not been brave enough to try until now. As the work progresses, it will also be the first model I will have used Alclad on to redo chrome, not to mention the first time I will also ever use my airbrush. It's also my first colorshifting paint job and will also be my first attempt at making my own decals. Anyway, enough rambling, so here's my one pic, and sorry it's not finished yet like everyone elses, but hopefully it will be soon!
  16. You have a cool Mustang but no TV!?! Ok, Big Kahuna, I'll try to explain it to you as PC as I can, as to keep it from crossing any lines. The guy that does the Slap Chop, which, since you probably haven't seen since you have no TV, is a kinda handheld blender for chopping various food items like onions and such. He is chopping peanuts like you would sprinkle on top of your hot fudge sundae oe banana split, and he says "Your going to love my ....!", you fill in the blank!
  17. Roy, you may not be abnormal, but you definitely aren't buying enough!! I have a collection of about 425+ unbuilt or barely started kits versus 3 finished!

Yes Steve, PLEASE POST MORE OF YOUR WORK!!!!!! I think if you would do a WIP thread, you might even give Romell a run for his money!
  19. Mine keep telling me "DO NOT BUILD BOX STOCK!!" Maybe that's where I get some of my crazy ideas!
  20. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!! Chocolate chip, my favorite!!!
  21. I'm sure there are a few old O.V.S.M. show awards in all those somewhere, Gary! Hi, buddy!
  22. Geez, Dave, and my better half tells me she feels like she lives in a hobby shop!!
  23. The first place to look is here: http://modeltruckin.com/store/ Even though I have not used any of his decals (YET), I have heard many good things about his work.
  24. ...and I blamed it on the dog! DRUMROLL CYMBALCRASH!! I'm here all night, and don't forget to tip your waitress!
  25. You're not losing it, sometimes that's the only way I can have an intelligent conversation!!
