  1. Most likely I won't. They were popular too as almost every one of these kits had them installed. Very hard to find the stock caps and both of my 60 Edsels had them on it so I have two sets. I like the modern big wheels and lowered stance of the pro touring cars. Right now I'm restoring a 60 El Camino kit but still deciding on keeping the stock wheels and white walls or doing it as a late 60's build with Cragers and white letter tires. At least with these old screw bottom chassis it is easy to switch out wheels.
  2. Very nice, you did a great job! I really like the blue band across the windshield! Nice touch.
  3. It's funny but that recall is seriously overblown out of proportion. The actual recall is 2.6 million cars that get new ignition switches, cylinders and keys. The cars that actually get new switches are cobalt, G5, Ion, HHR, Solstice and Sky, The other 20+ million get key inserts to make the ring hole smaller. I remember when we were knocking the inserts out of the keys now we are gluing them back in! http://www.thejunkmanadv.com/uploads/8/4/0/3/8403513/631625_orig.jpg?219
  4. Very cool. Nice to see a 71 Malibu!
  5. Thanks, It is Testors Lime Light green. I used it on a MPC 70 Camaro SS and I thought it would look great on this car as well.
  6. Very Nice! I love restoring these old annuals and you inspired me to show off my recently finished 60!
  7. Now for the finished stock build. I could not pick a stock color but I just love the car in this color!
  8. For giggles here is the first one that I started with. Rear had heavy paint and a lot of crazing also bad crazing in between the fins. How about that interior. It was replaced with a better interior that was found on eBay before kit 2 was found! This is the current condion of the first restoration.
  9. Here is another one of my restorations. Last year I did a 59 Edsel restoration I was itching to get this 60 Edsel Ranger convertible done also. I really like the looks of these cars and was eager to get started. I actually started with one built up and acquired another one hoping to have a better body. Once I stripped the body of the second one it was almost perfect and I built that one instead. So the only parts from the first model are the rechromed parts. Modelhaus supplied the missing convertible boot, taillight bezels, outside mirrors, whide white wall tires, and fender ornaments. Just a note that the taillight bezels on the finished model are rechromed originals from the first kit. I still have one more buildable kit that is missing the rear Edsel emblem and some crazing in the back. I plan to build it as a mild custom! First a few pics of before. This is the kit I actually restored, It's body, interior and chassis were much cleaner.
  10. All kidding aside, they are not perfect but they do a good job most of the time. You would be surprised at how many people want to fix their cars airbags by just replacing the cover so that the look new after an accident because they are so expensive. I had a owner that had a body man "fix" his car after a T bone and the car looked great but the airbags had gone off. He wanted the covers and what ever else to make the light shut off. Plus the seat belts no longer worked. I told him we can't do that, we have to fix it properly and replace all the spent air bags, plus the seat belts that have the pretensioners, and the diagnostic module (that stores crash info once the bags go off). Once everything is reset the light will go off. Of cource he took his business elsewere! I also know of an S10 that ran a red light and crashed. The air bags were gone but the covers were redone to look like they were there. It was still with the same owner who wrecked it the first time. He is now being sued buy his good friend "the passenger" because he has $50k in medical bills that the insurance won't pay for because of the injuries he got from the accident. The insurance company did pay for the first accident for the truck to be repaired properly and the owner just pocketed some the money!
  11. I like the idea of an airbag. Right after an accident I'm pretty sure I'll be ready for a nap!
  12. I got one for my 2006 Ram 2500. The drivers airbag recall opened in Jan 2015 and the airbag was finally replaced in Nov 2015. Now I just got the recall notice for the pass side this week! What is interesting is that GM has very few cars on this recall list. All Pontiac Vibes (Toyota Matrix) and a Saab 9-2 (Subaru). I hear some of the newer trucks are now involved but it depends on were it was assembled. My friend has a full time job at a Honda dealership just shipping the bad airbags back. They are hazardous materials and you have to be certified to ship them! Of course the recall started with Honda back in 2008 and just about all Hondas are affected. This recall is over 60 million cars and it is said 100 million could be affected.
  13. I went ahead and ordered the 69 Barracuda scoops along with the 69 Coronet side scoops and 1/25 General Lee wheels and tires. This is nice stuff! The 69 Barracuda scoops are way smaller and almost look too small but they fit over the Keith Marks decals and look great on the hood during a quick mock up! Thanks again!!
  14. I was wondering about that. I have some of the old AFX-N-Scale cast ones and they are to big.
  15. Beautiful!
  16. You did a wonderful job on this Chevelle. I really like this kit and have built two of them so far. I bought the Baldwin Motion version but have yet to build that one.
  17. Very nice!
  18. You did a great job on this. I love it.
  19. yup, you caught me! I believe the factory stripes are also one piece decals and cut and rolled into the jams. On the model I usually put it on in one piece and let the setting solution sink it into the jamb. Some I cut and some I leave alone.
  20. 29,400 for the Model Factory Hiro Shelby Cobra Daytona 427 Super Coupe. Of course that is in Japanese Yen and worked out to be $245 shipped directly from MFH at that time. The dollar is still pretty strong against the Yen and when this kit first came out I could not get it for under $350. So yes I did take advantage of it and was being cheap. Currently it would be about $275 shipped.
  21. How is this? Just took it for you.
  22. Here is the boot fitted along with the spoiler. The MPC interior tub is actually correct for a convertible and the boot fits great! and for comparison, my convertible conversion right next to another 70 GTO Judge that I built.
  23. Here are a few shots of the body in the ruff with the resin windshield frame. This is the rear section after I flattened out the quarters. The black is permanent marker to help guide me in shaping the quarters. The body was thick enough and didn't need any putty. Here is the damaged roof and why I got the kit. It was perfect for what I had in mind. and for comparison the Modelhaus copies of the conv boots. Top is MPC 68 & 69 GTO, bottom is AMT 69 Chevelle.
  24. Since I'm sharing some of my builds this 70 GTO Judge convertible is one that has been bounced around my workbench in many forms for many years. The actual build here restarted in early 2014 when I acquired an unbuilt MPC 70 GTO in a trade and it had a damaged A pillar. At that point is when it became a 70 model. Before that it was to be a 71 Judge convertible that was starting with a glue bomb 72 GTO build that I cut the roof off and was trying the kit bashing. That build started sometime in 2008. The Judge rear spoiler is from AFX-N-Scale and dates back to that time. So does the Modelhaus 69 Chevelle conv windshield frame and convertible boot. I bought a Chevelle boot but it didn't work out and later used a Modelhaus 69 GTO convertible boot. The chassis is AMT 69 Olds 442 and the engine is from the Revell 68 Firebird. I had most of the kitbashing done on the 72 and was working on converting the interior to a 71. So when the 70 kit came along I restarted the bodywork buy cutting the roof off and reshaping the rear quarters. Lots of details were added to this build that I don't normally do like, plug wires, heater hoses, brake and fuel lines, carpet flocking, seat belts, armrests, some photo etch, key in ignition, separate door handles. Well here is the finished build and I will add some posts of the construction. All questions and comments are welcome.
  25. Thanks, but no apology needed. I don't know why that kit has a smaller rear bumper but it looks great to me on the 71 and 72 kits. I don't have any other versions of the 70 GTO to check but I always wondered why that kit was different.
