Perrys Resin info
Sport Suburban replied to aurfalien's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Not exactly, two different resin casters with similar stories. Both with good products and were fast shippers. Aft establishing a good reputation. Things started to fall behind and orders got slower and slower to appear. Stories started about why they are behind or lost shipments. Now we know not to buy as you will either have to wait years if you even get your stuff. -
Modelhaus going, going Gone !!!!!!
Sport Suburban replied to WoodyRDC's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
My 07 catalog from Modelhaus has that 92 Roadmaster listed at $40 plus another $4 if you want the hub caps. I think that kit is more complete than what my old book lists for contents. I don't know what the last price was. My 70 Charger RT kit was $59 when I bought it. Last time I looked at that kit it was 75 I think. I know some kits are way more. The most expensive one I bought was the 58 Fairlane convertible with the top and cont kit. $128. I will admit that if these start getting high prices on eBay I may sell some of them if I have not built it. I have sold some Mini Exotics kits and R&R kits because they became worth so much more and the subject was not a must have for me. I originally bought them because I had planned to build them but something else came along. I did have a Mini Exotics 427 Cobra Daytona Super Coupe kit. It needed quite a bit of work but was not a bad buy, I think I had $60 or $70 in it with a Revell 427 Cobra chassis for it. When I learned of the MFH kit of the same subject I wanted that version but it was over $300. A little over a year ago with the exchange rate in my favor I was able to buy it directly from MFH for $245 shipped. I sold the Mini Exotics kit on eBay and got back $125. Most resin kits seem to be a good investment as most of them I have sold for more than I bought. Just don't ask about my R&R 66 Impala, MCW 65 Satellite, and Modelhaus 72 442 convertible. (I just finished building that convertible and bought it in 08 and Revell kit came out in 2010 I think. -

Modelhaus going, going Gone !!!!!!
Sport Suburban replied to WoodyRDC's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
You guys remind me of what John Maxwell said when he was asked why he has not written a book about Business Ethics! He said there was nothing to write. Business is business and ethics is ethics one is not related to the other. Business is a financial agreement between two parties and ethics is how you treat people. You do business ethically or you do not. You bring morals into business or not. That is about who you are doing business with but not what you are doing together. -

AMT 1960 Ford Thunderbird Convertible
Sport Suburban replied to Ron Hamilton's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I figured I would offer since I had made the molds. I had purchased five 60 build ups to get most of what I needed to restore two of the 60s. I also bought three 59s. The hood hinges, radiator, air cleaner and continental kit parts were the hardest to find. So I cast those parts up. Like you said some of the body lines are missing but they look great finished. I had finished four of the builds and have the two 59 hard tops left. I recently broke a 59 front bumper but just ordered a replacment from Modelhaus. It may be six months before I see it but that is ok. I have had these for years now. I look forward to seeing yours built up! Let me know how you add the carved lines as that is something I have had trouble adding and keeping them strait. -
AMT 1960 Ford Thunderbird Convertible
Sport Suburban replied to Ron Hamilton's topic in WIP: Model Cars
AMT did the 58 Thunderbird promos only, no kits were done. The kits came out in 59 and 60. What surprises me is that no one had done a 55 Thunderbird in 1/25. I do have a resin one of the 55 based of the promo. -
AMT 1960 Ford Thunderbird Convertible
Sport Suburban replied to Ron Hamilton's topic in WIP: Model Cars
That is a very nice start. You are correct that the 60 Thunderbird annuals are one of the first with the opening hood and engine. The 59 Thunderbird annuals have the hood molded shut just like the promos. So far I have restored four of these, a 59 convertible, 60 convertible, 60 hardtop modified into a sun roof car, and another 60 convertible that the emblems were sanded off and had a 59 interior. I made that one into a 58 convertible with Modelhaus 58 AMT promo parts as no kit was issued for 58 from AMT. I have two more 59s to restore both being hard tops. Doing these restorations I have had to make a few missing parts. I have molds that I made of the hood hinges and air cleaner if you want resin copies I can make you some. -
Those are all very nice!

That came out awesome. Good job!

'67 Dodge Charger, MPC or Revell?
Sport Suburban replied to Roadrunner's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yes, Revell kit all the way. It is more recent tooling and the MPC kit dates back to the original 1966 annual and is not bad for its time period. You could take the MPC kit and kit bash the AMT 71 Charger chassis and engine comp and build a real nice one on par with the Revell kit. But now you have two or three kits to buy if you don't have them already. I have both kits and plan to build one MPC 67 as a 66 Charger useing a Modelhaus conversion kit (interior and 66 caps along with 66 dated bumpers). But I like some of the simplicity of the old annuals. -
You are correct that Mopar did not keep the best records but they were better at it than GM. It is a lot harder to fake one of these. No official 70 Daytonas were offered but a few were made. This is a 70 Daytona and it's is unknown were it is now but a clone of it does exist. See here. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3131175/1970-dodge-Daytona/ This is the 70 Daytona 440+6 sunroof car. It is documented and disputed. Another red 70 Daytona is out there but is believed to home built but no one knows for sure. It has a superbird nose on it. The 70 Daytona was planned but is rumored to have been cancelled as the 69 already existed and they could race it. If they offered it they would have had to make 1 for every dealership in business at the time. That is also why 1500 or so Superbirds had to be made instead of just 500 like in 69. All efforts went to the Superbird to keep Petty with Plymouth!
-
Sorry to take your topic off subject. Your building a beautiful Superbird. I built one in petty blue and plan a Hemi Superbird with a bench seat interior from the 70 Roadrunner kit.
-
I now of two Daytonas with vinyl tops. The green one with the wild stripes and Hemi. Plus a Plum Crazy 440 6 pack sunroof car. Both are 1970 Daytonas and both should not exist. Plus neither one has the flush mounted rear window. As for the 69 Charger 500 none were built with a vinyl top but 11 are documented to have dealer installed tops.

1963 Corvette Grand Sport (update 8/16/16)
Sport Suburban replied to RancheroSteve's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Not a single part of the body is stock. The inner structure is aluminum and not steal. The fiberglass is thinner all to save weight and Zora hated the split window. -
Just a note. No 69 Daytonas had vinyl tops. Both the 69 Daytona and Charger 500 required more metalwork and a shorter trunk lid plus since they only needed to make 500 of them they could take more time to do it. For the 70 Superbird they needed to make 1500 of them and only the rear window was modified. So it was easier to hide the work under the vinyl top.

Missing Link 70-71 cyclones
Sport Suburban replied to kevin l's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
While not truly a build with Missing Links resin kit just about all of these mods will apply using the Revel kit. Missing links interior is different and may require less work that what I did double up the MPC interior tub on top of the cast in interior floor of the Revel kit. I did buy Missing Links dash and the front spoiler for this built. Plus another dash, spoiler and a set of stock wheels for my other 70 Cyclone spoiler! My project had stalled and is unfinished at this point. -
Wow! I'm almost living this. I was born in 73 and my first car is my avitar. It's a 71 Plymouth Sport Suburban that I grew up in and learned to drive in it. I also still own it and just love it and have no plans to ever sell it.

An Idea For A Different Ferrari?
Sport Suburban replied to oldcarfan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There is a company that sold lots of V8 conversion parts to put Chevy V8 in Jaguars. They are Jags That Run. They now sell V8 conversion parts for a lot more cars now! -

No, Those decals in the Mini Exotics picture came in the Mini Exotics kit. I took a picture of the decals I got in my Jimmy Flinstone kit. -
King Cobra Torino
Sport Suburban replied to Fabrux's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Here is a pic of the one I bought. It works with the Revell kit and looks pretty good. I have had this one for many years. I bought it in 2007 and still plan to build it someday. I don't know if the kit has been updated but it did come with decals. And for comparison sake. This is Mini Exotics kit that is no longer available. It is based on the old AMT kit and is 1/25. It also had the nose bent down and needs to be straitened. This was done to get it to fit into the box.
