Very nice build of a cool car. I have a 1/24 kit of this waiting in the wings. When you consider motor cycles is where Honda got it's start, the transverse mounting of the motor should be no surprise.
Very cool. I've been considering this as well, with exactly the pieces you have chosen. The plans are great. I look forward to your continuing of this project.

I have several of both the Testors and Hasegawa 944 kits. The Testors is faifly easy to convert to a US spec early 944 using one of the Monorgam 924 kits for the bumpers and early style dash. I've been working on one of these conversions off and on to replicate my very early 944. The cookie cutter wheels were a problem for a while till I ran across an obscure Revell 911 turbo kit that had OK examples of them. Turning the turbo motor into the non turbo one is a little tougher.....
The Flintstone body is a very specific race version. The rear deck is bumped up around the rear grills. Not too hard to correct if a racing version is what you're after.
Personally, I believe the market is bigger than you might guess. The Daytona Coupe is a bit of a holly grail. I lucked into seeing one at the Sebring 12 hours that had appeared in the week ends vintage race. I believe a company such as Tamiya of Fujimi would do quite well with this subject. It is not out of the question for either of them given the various vintage race cars they have already done.
The kit is still available from Hasegawa and comes in two flavors, stock and Rally. Nice curbside kit, and virtually spot on dimensionaly with the Revell two door, which makes it 1/24th, where as there 240z is woefully undersized body wise.
