Beautiful. I'm familiar with the Renaissance and Studio 27 kits of this car, but not the Spark.

Looks great! I never thought the shade of blue wold be this light, but as it matches the Cady decals, well I guess it was!

Sorry Guys and gals. I'm gone. We had a house fire

That's awful news. My thoughts are with you and your family. -
I did indeed find the pieces I need in their (Modelhaus) catalog. Though I have not yet ordered the parts.

I've bought two of his items, the Porsche 550 and the Dodge van body for the Little Red Wagon wheel stander kit. Both are very nicely done, but the Porsche kit requires considerable work to represent the vast majority of actual 550's made. His is apparently a very specific car. I've also had a couple of the items that Testors sold that he mastered, and they were also pretty well done IMHO.

I've driven a first gen Scirroco, and I owned an 85 GTI. The GTI was faster and perhaps even handled better, but the Scirocco was fun. Other than my 944, the GTI was the most fun I've had in any car.

Consider the fact that the USPS has been forced to cover insurance and pension responsibilities for 70 - 75 years in the future. For folks who don't yet even work for the USPS. That and the fact that it is the single largest public union in the country. You follow the links........

An interesting side note on this topic, I remember reading that some NASCAR teams were actually spraying clear over the sponsor stickers on their cars to gain a mild areo advantage....! Anyway, the issue to me is not so much the clearing of the deals over the painted finish, but the over all sheen of the model. Make any sense?

Favorite Scale to Build in?
IMSANUT replied to Jordan White's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'd like to see the split between 1/25 and 1/24 personally. I prefer the later, as most of the subjects I build are in that scale, which makes the items in 1/25 that are of the same topic look small side by side. Ah well. -
For me, the research has become as satisfying as the actual build. The more I learn about the specific car I am planning, the more accurate I can make it. To me, this is a similar attitude towards the subject matter the armor and airplane crowd has. As many of you are aware, I build primarily road racing subjects. Like many racing series, the cars can change not only from event to event, but sometimes from practice to race day. Having had the pleasure of seeing some of my subjects in 1:1 races at specific tracks, it has become a passion for me to try to replicate what it was I actually saw. Thus, research helps a great deal. The internet has made this part of the hobby very easy for me to take advantage of. I've amassed a great deal of photographic evidence to help me with my builds. Now for the down side. With so much data and so many books, magazines and photos available, it certainly cuts into building time.....! "Balance is everything."

Box-Stock or Custom?
IMSANUT replied to MikeyB08's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've got to say, as a road racing subject builder, I do a lot of corrections to kits that are somewhat generic. I've yet to find one that is 100 % accurate, though some have been close. Plus, focusing on American series, like IMSA, ALMS and SCCA, there are some subjects, like the IMSA Porsche 962's that have never been kitted and are WAY different from the European counterparts. Thus, aftermarket parts and decals, and a certain amount of scratch building are needed to replicate specific cars at specific races. My 2 cents worth. -
Something that has been sort of bugging me for a while is the clear coating of racing models, especially older subjects. I've been to a ton of races, mostly road races, over the past 33 years, and to a car, I have never seen them shine like most of the models I have seen. Especially contest models. Curious as to what others think.

IMSANUT replied to Casey's topic in Contests and Shows
Outstanding pictures of great models. Makes me wonder about the merit of clear coating racing subjects, especially older cars. They were never that shiny when raced. Still, some beautiful craftsmanship. -
The mail man just arrived with a kit I have been trying to get my hands on for a long time. It just about completes my quest to obtain all of the kits for the exciting IMSA GTP series. The Le Mans Miatures Bud Light Jaguar XJR-13. I'll be building the Mid-Ohio winning car of Davy Jones. Now I only have two left to get.....

While I have yet to build one, I have been taking photos and planning what will be my first one. Turn five at Road America. I'm somewhat surprised at the lack of race track dios I have seen.

Interesting build here. More differences than I imagined there would be. Good luck!

How much $ do you put in a kit?
IMSANUT replied to pandamonium2112's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Interesting question this. Since I started building kits in the mid s 60's when all were nut $2.00 a piece, I have witnessed the increase in price of new kits, and watched in horror at the silly prices some of those $2.00 kits fetch today on evilbay. Also I've seen my own buying habits change from raiding a local hobby shops scratch and dent section to spending close to $200.00 on a resin kit. Of course what this all means is that it is up to the individual. I've amassed a stupid inventory of kits over the past 40 = years, and I am finding myself whittling down the scope to have only what I am really interested. On that count, thank heaven for evilbay......!
