I need your opinion!
High octane replied to Dragfreak's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Get some dog dishes and go with the red wheels. That's what I would do. -
I'm sorry to say that Shabo has been out of business for a long time now.

That is a beautiful job on that Chevy.

I hope you Wisconsin builders are ready for the Milwaukee NNL on April 12th as this is the 22nd one, so the AMG club must be doin' something right. A good time awaits builders from many states, and hopefully the Canadians will return this year as well.

That's right Harry, if it's not one thing, it's another but it's always something. There are days in the spring and the fall where we don't have to run the furnace or the A/C and I call those "free days."

Using a Rattle can for small parts
High octane replied to GundamFundam's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I often spray a number of parts with a rattle can, in fact I also use the rattle can to paint the bodies as well. I usually get a piece of cardboard and put a few strips of masking tape folded over so that it's sticky on both sides, onto the cardboard. Then after you've trimmed your parts from the trees and sanded the mold lines, set them on the strips of tape and spray away. In regards to your orange peel, are you sanding your primer with 600 or 1000 grit paper before painting your color coats? You should. Holding your can to far from the body or using slow passes with the rattle can will cause orange peel also. You can practice these things on an empty water bottle, as you don't need a model car body for this. Try it. I hope this helps you. -
Just another "cold night" Harry, just grin and bear it. LOL! Look at all the money you're saving on your electric bill by not running the A/C.

My kids had hamsters and gerbils at one time and of course cats also. Now that the kids are out of the house we have no more pets, and it's kinda nice being able to go on vacation and not have to make arrangements to have pets taken care of. Of course my pulmonary doctor who treats my asthma also recommends no pets. I would LOVE to get another cat, but with newer carpeting throughout the house, and some relatives allergic to cats, it's just not gonna happen. Oh well.

Danbury Mint's Encore.........1935 Ford Deluxe Coupe (pics)
High octane replied to formula1129's topic in Diecast Corner
I too received the flyer for the '35 Ford Deluxe Coupe, and if you read it CAREFULLY, it says that it is the final "brand-new" 1:24 scale precision replica. I take it that it means no more "new tooling" and I wouldn't be surprised if the Danbury Mints were re-issued at some time down the road. If not, it's not gonna change my life one bit. -

But they're not fender exit headers. -

Then how 'bout the headers from Jo-Han's Recharged kit? They're available from MCW. -
That's why I do just about all my trading for ca$h. A lot of my kits are sealed and the buyer knows what he's getting. It's gettin' old putting money out for kits only to have them pile up higher and higher. I've been "thinnin' out the herd" for awhile now. Of course I'm still buildin' and buyin' an occasional model kit. By the same token, I don't need every kit in existence known to man, or kits for parts or kit bashing, that will probably never happen at the rate I finish kits.

Like it or not, times are changin' and not always for the better. -
Welcome Frank, as this is a great place to be.

Nice job on that one Kerry. I don't recall seeing that one before.

Yes Harry I remember that one, but there was another on North Ave. and I'm not sure of the name as that was 50 years ago and I CAN'T REMEMBER EVERYTHING! LOL!

Back in the very early 60's I bought many a dog at Jimmy's Hot Dog stand as my good buddy lived just down the street from there. I lived a mile or two northwest of Jimmy's but hung around that area quite a bit. don't forget Bill's(?) Hobby Shop on North Ave. & Harding Ave. They used to have model car contests there in the early 60's. I know that I've mentioned it before, but I am a "Chicago native." By the way, Jimmy's was not too far from Mr. Norm's Grand Spaulding Dodge either as I remember.

That is lookin' real good Alan as I have seen the 1:1 car a few times up close and your corrections sound just about right. Nice build.

Another reason not to "drink & drive," and yes I do it at times also. Had a cup of coffee this morning while driving on I-88.

They do that at Home Depot when you buy colors that have to be mixed. However that wouldn't work with some colors, especially silver, steel, and aluminum. That's why I write the color on a label and put it on the cap.
