I was building Arnie "The Farmer's" '64 GTO a few years back and used the Monogram kit as I compared it with the Polar Lights kit also and I think that Monogram's was much better. As far as 1/24th & 1/25th, if you put them both side by side you'll see very little difference as far as scale goes.
There were a lot of vintage Jo-Han kits at the swap meet in Toledo this past weekend and Modelhaus has some really nice older Mopar kits for sale also.
It was good to get to the NNL & Swap Meet in Toledo this year as I haven't been there since '07. Lot's of gorgeous models on the tables although the numbers seemed to have been down as well as the number of vendors and aftermarket companies also. It just seems as though this event was much better ten years ago in my opinion.
You're right DoubleD, it really doesn't matter how much money one has spent on their accumulation of plastic, die-cast, tools, paints, parts, phot-etch, etc. as long as YOU enjoy your stuff, that's all that counts!
Thursday already! It's getting closer to Toledo and I'll be rolling at 5:30 a.m.(?) on Saturday and heading east for the NNL & swap meet. I'm hoping the show will be as good as I remember it from the past as I haven't been there for four years.
While I've never used a Sky Crane before, I have worked with helicopters when I was doing construction work. We used them to place heating/AC units on rooftops and also to remove debris from roofs. They aren't cheap to rent, however they work much faster than a crane and can land a load anywhere therefore saving labor costs.
crazyjim how could you move to sunny Florida and do away with frigid cold and snowy winters in the Chicagoland area? I just know that you REALLY miss them!
I was sniffin' glue in the 50's building planes, rockets, armor, and a few multi-piece car kits. In Dec. of '59 I was given and AMT "59 Lincoln Continental Convertible kit and I was HOOKED! I've been building on and off ever since then. I got out of cars in the 90's and even sold all my kits and parts(big mistake) and got back into car modeling in about '98 and I'm in it for life.
I've seen many drop-dead gorgeous 1 : 1 cars at many car shows with those big wheels and rubber band tires and they sure know how to RUIN the looks of a car. The're WAY out of proportion and do nothing to compliment the cars they're on at all. If they looked good, the car manufacturers would be putting them on all their cars, but they don't and I know it's the "California look" but I don't live in Cali. This is just MY opinion.
I wash the entire kit before doing any work on it and I also agree with Art about not air-drying the body as you will get water spots. It works for me.
