Installing Windshields and Backglass
High octane replied to pd534's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've been using the Devcon 5-minute epoxy for years with great results, dries clear and strong bond. I don't find it messy at all. -
That's a really nice job on that Mooneyes dragster and it would be great if it were re-issued.

I'm hopin' to see Dean at the Toledo show next month.

While the swap meet is great, the NNL is just plain AWESOME!!! There are a LOT of great builders that come to the Toledo show and bring a lot of great lookin' models too! The models that are seen on the pages of Model Cars Magazine and the "other" magazine also. There are models that many of us wish we could build and with over 900 models on the tables, that is quite a lot of "eye candy!"

I know guys that are afraid of the can exploding if they warm it too much and I don't blame them. What a mess!!! -

Fenderwell headers?
High octane replied to roadhawg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The headers in the JoHan "Recharged" kit are for a Wedge engine and not the hemi. They can be bought from MCW. Perry's Resins used to have a set of fenderwell headers for a Chevy smallblock. I don't know if Perry is offering those anymore. -
Can't Paint Anymore!

Read my above post again, the bottom line where it says: Don't give up as you were getting good results before and you Will again! -
I was at my LHS today and picked up some more Devcon 5 minute epoxy and some aluminum tubing. Trying not to buy anymore model kits as I'm sure that I'll be picking some up in three week at the Toledo (Sylvania) Show, whether I want to or not as some of those kits draw me in like a magnet and just SCREAM buy me, buy me!

Black BMF won't stick right, how to fix?
High octane replied to TurboKitty's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
If the chrome BMF sticks and the black BMF does not, I'm thinkin' you need to get a new sheet of black BMF. At least that's what I would do. -
Wooo Hoooo! Issue# 161 arrived today!
High octane replied to Danno's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My LHS didn't have it the other day, but I did pick up issue # 160 which is a great issue if you want to be a cartoonist. -
While I like collecting and building model car kits as much as the next guy, waiting for or buying a new kit doesn't excite me like it did back in the early 60's. Most of the time when I buy a new kit it just goes on the "pile" unopened and when I'll get around to building it is anybody's guess.

I have a Hobby Lobby about 1/2 mile from my house which is walking distance and while they have a nice selectiion of model kits and Testors paints, I find that they are really slow in getting the newer releases. As far as trinkets, mirrors, lamps, art supplies, stickers, projects, and other items for sale there, there is BIG money in those items as when I wait in line to make my purchases, it is nothing for me to see the women ahead of me shelling out $100 - $200 at a crack. After all Hobby Lobby is in business to make money and not just to sell model car kits which would put them out of business in a hurry.

Here in Illinois we have govenors that make license plates. -
I like that Edsel wagon a lot and think that you did a great job on it.

Can't Paint Anymore!
High octane replied to SuperStockAndy's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Andy, are you using an air brush or a rattle can? If using a brush, you need to thin the paint even more. You are thinnning it aren't you? If you're having trouble with a rattle can, clean the nozzle or spray tip. You may just need to pitch that can and start with a fresh one. Are you warming the can in warm water before you spray? This seems to help make the paint flow real nice. Don't give up as you were getting good results before and you WILL again. -
Wow, great photos and what are those two things above the beacon, are they lights also? Thanks.

After judging a number of model car contests, I and other judges do NOT want the builder around when we're judging. Some people enter models with wheels and other parts are not secure at all. I've learned over the years that epoxy has a very strong bond and few to no parts ever come off therefore I don't need to bring a "repair kit" when I take my models to show, contests, club meetings, etc.. I have seen many people looking at the models on the tables who are NOT very careful and even walk around with a can of pop and sometimes put it on the table which if spilled can cause damage to a builder's labor of love. Some people just don't THINK!
