Alfa Romeo Scuderia Ferrari 1/8...
Jim Gibbons replied to Brizio's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
Both the wood simulation and the radiator work are superb; really enjoying this project. -
Forgive me for the #### thing; I thought that the word I used was acceptable to the forum, but it clearly wasn't. C'est la vie. C'est la Guerre.
-
Holy ######...awesome work. I still am figuring some machine processes to make things affordable. Will talk soon.
-
Just plain beautiful build, and that interior is a model in itself. Stunning.
-
Beautiful work; Parnelli Jones should be sent this thread! You're going to have to try to get his autograph on a plaque when you finish this.
-
Awesome, Romell...I take it you'll have that style steering wheel on your 1:1. One question, though; won't that block reading your instruments? Way over the top, and cooler than dry ice!

Alfa Romeo Scuderia Ferrari 1/8...

Great; awaiting the pictures! I'd like to find this kit someday, as it's one of my favorite pre-war Alfa Romeos. My total favorite is the 1938 Mille Miglia 2900B, though. Wish there was a 1/25 model of one. -
Now that's a bike!
-
I don't have one. The closest I came was having a newer reissue of the old Aurora GT40. Now I regret giving it away a few years ago, as this thread has great details that would have been a great help. Yeah, the 1/43 stuff is neat, but I'm having to rely on the glasses way too much these days. I have a few to finish as builds for a friend, and after that, nothing smaller than 1/32!
-
Alright; it having been said that I will likely never build this kit, but I am learning so much about the 1:1 car, and I'm so impressed with the comradery and support this thread is getting, and the workmanship on the posted models. This is what this modeling board is all about!

Ok, cool Romell...gives me something to work with. What I probably wasn't clear about is what the model wheel backs need to be like. That'll be an important part of the CAD drawing. The 1:1 wheel backs aren't worth duplicating, mainly for the $. We'll talk further on it, but with those pics, I could interpolate a pretty close dimensional drawing! I'll send you a sketch with dimensions I'll need.

Awesome! The attention to detail blows me away!

Ok, sorry to get a little off topic here, but it does relate to the project. I had stated here earlier that I have a Monogram Corsair that could apply. The one I have that I thought I'd sacrifice was the SSP version that came out around '99-2000. I got it mail order, only to find that one of the upper inner wing sections was a short shot. This version was molded in navy blue. Does anyone have that version that would be willing to trade or sell? The method to my madness is that I wanted to build that for my brother. More years ago than I care to remember, I built that kit after saving my allowance, as I was into the "working parts" Monogram WW2 aircraft at the time. I finished it on a Friday night at the kitchen table, bought it up to my bedroom, where it had one good night unmolested. The following morning, I was looking at it, playing with the working landing gear, folding wings, etc., and left it on my bed. A few minutes later, my brother accidentally sat on it (I can still hear the crunch and snapping sound of breaking plastic to this day!) and pretty much wiped out all the working features. Needless to say, he got a good pounding from me, and after nearly 40 years, I still regret it! The reason I want the blue molded version, is that I want to build it for him as closely as I originally did it, which included not painting the colored plastic. Fortunately, my modeling skills have improved enough to make it look decent that way. (Maybe a coat of Future after decaling, etc.) I eventually repaired it enough as a gear up model, glued the outer wings back on, and motorized it. The Visible V8 model I had built worked for a while, and even though I had lubricated the bearings with vegetable oil as the instructions told, the crankshaft eventually snapped, and I took the electric motor and adapted it to the Corsair. A cob job, but I guess I was ahead of my time! I bought another release of the Corsair a couple of years ago, but it's now molded in gray. Not a big problem, as it can be painted, but I would like to do a "nostalgia" style build for my brother. If anyone can help, PM me. If I can get a blue one, the newer gray one gets the project go-ahead.

Drew, I'll let you know if I come across anything. I wish I still had the brochure my dad gave me when I was a kid. It was the one that had that "fanciful" illustrative color artwork that was a little distorted, but oh, so cool. I colored a lot of it with a green magic maker! I came home from my birth in a '59 Beetle, my older sister in a Polar Silver '57 oval window; would love to have that '57 today! I'll keep my eyes and ears open for a split or oval; I used to help judge vintage VW at the Rhinebeck Antique Car Show here in NY, and still have a lot of my VW contact friends. Could have gotten you a good deal on a very decent black '57 oval about 8 years ago from a Culinary Institute of America student that used it as his daily driver! Oh, well! My friends Doug and Pam have quite a stable of vintage VWs; they show their black '56 "Rudi" with various vintage display items, i.e. ski theme, plaid picnic cooler and accesories theme, etc. The car has been in Hot VWs mag and others over the years. Pam has a really nice '59 Karmann Ghia convertible that I was lucky to get a ride in some time ago. I'll give them a call and see if they have any leads on a 1:1. -
Glad I found this thread; the diorama is fantastic, and the brick tutorial is awesome.

Yet another awesome build! Wow!

Looking forward to your progress on this. I built this kit for my friend years ago who was an FIA rallye driver. I'm working on the Renault Alpine MC Rallye winner for her now.

Hi Drew, Welcome to the board and back to the modeling bench! I, too, am an avid VW fan, and have a few kits on the back burner. One I have to finish is the old AMT Rabbit kit that I want to build as my former 1:1 '78 Bronze Edition. I have an old can of Duplicolor bronze for it. Revell Germany has a newly tooled VW Samba (DeLuxe bus) coming out this summer, and is like the old 60's release with doors, etc. that open. It's a multi-piece body, though, so a bit tricky to build. It can be built US or European spec. I'll have to dig around, and may have some old mobilia, as I sold VW in the mid '80s and trained new salespeople. I do have the skeleton "push puppet" toy from the DaDaDa song Golf ad promotion from '97 or '98. Cheers, Jim -
Thanks for the link to the P-39 model; I REALLY like that!

I sent an email to the Chrysler 300 Club, Inc. tech expert on the '55, and asked the questions of whether undercoating was optional or standard, primer color, and inside front fender finish. I'll post the answers when I receive them.

Here's the link to the Hemmings Classic Car restoration profile; great pics. This restorer painted the entire underbody red; as Art stated, it was most likely primered. However, as the owner states, it was a California car from day one, and it was undercoated. I'm wondering if Chrysler applied it to their premium lines as standard. I'll have to do a little more research on this. http://www.hemmings.com/hcc/stories/2007/01/01/hmn_feature13.html

I hear you on the safety issues, Art. I had gotten a rear red taillight with LEDs at my local Dollar Store. Bright, and has different strobe settings...for $1. I use a 3 LED reading light hung around my neck for a forward view thing...doesn't help me see, but makes me be seen.

I agree with Robert's (droogie's) assessment of the P-39. This is to be a sampling of theoretical racing planes, so I'd guess that anything goes within the basic guidelines (and frankly, I think a well done Aircobra could be a spoiler). If I'm gonna play with an F4F Corsair, it's going to be for fun, because so many of you are so much more talented than I! I'm looking forward to being a part of this, though.
