Can't get too excited about 3D t.v. Since I don't have binocular vision I get no benefit from 3D. Ticks me off to no end to have to pay extra to go to a 3D movie like Avatar since it looks like every other movie to me. I remember going years ago to IMAX theatres where everyone was using 3D glasses and ooohin and ahhing about the effect but it looked all the same to me. Otherwise I'm not commenting on how much t.v. I watch or computer time... More models would get built if I could ignore them....

We've been married 27 years this past September 10. I definitely got the better part of that deal!

I'm sorry Gregg but I'm with Lee on this one - would rather a late hard copy than an on time online one. Now I know you said it won't affect the print version but I personally wouldn't pay for an online mag when there is so much free stuff out on the web. And I can't help feeling that in short order the forum would somehow end up tied into the online mag. Something in the order of you can see the basics for free but if you want to see everything you have to subscribe.... something like another place we know... Sorry for being an old curmudgeon this Sunday morning but when I hear this type of stuff, I see a slippery slope not something positive. I would like to emphasize this is my view only and does not reflect what Gregg actually posted. And Phil I'm sorry we're hijacking your thread as well. David: Tamiya is a Japanese company. Not only do they make great model kits but they make great acrylics for brush painting and a fine line of plastic friendly spray laquers that usually lay down real nice. As mentioned by Master modeller the new Testor's one coat system is also a very good product that is easy to use.

If you're searching the web especially E-Bay check out Model Trains in the G scale (Garden Scale) section Most things in G Scale come out around 1/24 - 1/25. I have horses from G Scale model railroad for a diorama someday.

I think Brett and Greg are on to something. For my generation (50+) the car was still the symmbol of freedom, of adventure, of independance. We weren't driven everywhere - we had to walk to school, to sports what have you. So when you got your first car it was one of the most exciting day of your life. But for some reason parents of my generation felt the need to drive the kids every little place they had to go. My nieces and nephew were driven everywhere even when they would have perferred walking. As a result they never bothered to learn how to drive and could care less about cars and see them as appliances like a fridge or stove. I belong to CAA (equivalent to AAA) and the magazine they send out sucks. It seldom covers much about cars (how ironic!) and when they do cover cars it's like they're nuissances to be tolerated. While there is still millions of us with passion for the automobile there are more millions that now view a car as on par with a computer or a television - nothing to get excited about.

I think that at most contests displays are discouraged due to space comcerns. Usually a mirror underneath might be allowed to show the underside of the car. Of course the exception would be dioramas.

"just like the woefully outdated Model T style board at Spotlight." Well Bob I guess since I've been known to drive a Model A in my spare time, I fit well with the Spotlight type board.

Oh I'm probably going to get myself into trouble but here goes... It depends on what you want Johny. I'm one who loves both these boards but if I was forced to choose just one I would go with Spotlight Board. Here I am forced to look at stuff category by category. Over there it is just one stream of consciousness and I end up checking trucks, drag cars and other stuff that may not interest me but it's next in line so I check it out and by default get a more balanced view of the model car hobby. Here I skip a lot of the categories like Drag Racing and Big Boyz and Model Trucks as they just don't generally grab me. I know the other board is considered 'old' technology but I find it easier and more enjoyable to use. This is by no means a slam against this one as I really enjoy being here too it's just a matter of preference.

I don't know Jeff. There has been far less drama over there than there has been here in the last few months. Until recently I'd go there for the fun and here for the drama. Fortunately it has mellowed here and far more enjoyable. (Not saying there hasn't been any drama there just not as bad as it was here for awhile.)

I kinda have to agree with Donald the original poster of this topic. I used to have more fun with models when I was a kid and was ignorant on proper model building techniques. I was thrilled when I first found Scale Auto in the early eighties. But the more I learned the more tense I became with model building. Because I don't have any depth perception due to not having binocular vision, I tend to change the shape of fenders etc just trying to remove mold lines. Trying to bare metal foil I tend to put too much pressure because I can't judge the depth and trying to follow the contour of the molding should be simple. My knife is up over the molding making it too narrow and then down again making it too wide. When trying to make a bulkhead between driver and rear seat passengers for a Town Car I was building, I spent hours trying to get the shape right so I would fit into the roof properly. After hours of sanding, fitting, filing, fitting it never did match the contour of the roof. I just finally gave up and installed it even though the gaps are still evident. Ans yes I did try to make a template but i couldn't even get that right despite numerous tries. And don't ask me if the window was rectangular.... The unfortunate result is I tend to get really tense when model building. I get cramping across the neck and shoulders because I tense up so much at the bench worrying about altering something I shouldn't. I tend to spend more time at forums and at shows and NNL's enjoying other peoples builds than wanting to build myself. I love seeing the builds on the boards and marvel at what all the builders are doing. But I agree with Donald in that I know after many years of being in this hobby I will never be able to build like many of you that say it's easy to make this part or that part because you just have to shape this raw material this way or that way. I just don't have the ability or talent to do it. Oh Yeah...Don't get me started about theatres charging more for 3D movies

Actually properly adjusted mechanical brakes can be quite effective. You just have to keep up with them on a regular basis.

This is my Model A. It is a 1931 Town Sedan painted Brewster green and Black. We have put quite a few miles on it over the las.... Ooh! You mean model Model A's eh???? Ooopps!

Cool! That means I should have mine by the beginning of August. Checking the mailbox will become more exciting starting in a couple of weeks. Yay!

No loss to us. Mercury's been gone from Canada for a few years now. Still a shame though....

I don't know which is worse - the smiley Mazdas or the Acuras with chrome beaks.

Good find Tom! I've been wanting the woody for years now but always lost out on the 'bay as it went out of reach. But I hit pay dirt at NNL East this year where a vendor had one for a reasonalble price. It made my day. Peter

Hey Wayne! That's an interesting question. We have people in our club that insist that no one builds in the summer. They say our show should be moved from fall into a spring slot so that we're getting fresh builds as everyone builds in winter and not in summer. They think we get retreads from everyone else's spring contests because no one builds in the summer. I think it's all a crock but I'll be interested to see what kind of responses you get here. By the way it doesn't matter to me but in this neck of the woods winter shows are dicey due to weather.
