September? I haven't been tracking this one as the Ventura is what thrills me. I had to cut open the plastic wrap to get at it. As I said, a friend sent this to me and I am going to do a build on this one as soon as the Hemi Dart is done (about 3 weeks). I will have to seek the opinions of GTR and CARS in Miniature clubs MOPAR experts to help me in this. But then, Fiat now owns Chrysler and I don't think has spun Ferrari off yet. So I guess it can be classified an exotic

Moebius `65 Plymouth Satellite

Well, after I finish the Hemi Dart, I will have to get into another Chrysler product to thank a friend for providing this. These are quick shots with no attempt to deal with perspective or parallax. -
Aston Martin DB4 kit?
Exotics_Builder replied to dawgvet's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Did Revell change 250 GTO's? Last time I looked (almost a year ago) it was the Protar 250 GTO. -
Aston Martin DB4 kit?
Exotics_Builder replied to dawgvet's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I'm with you on that. I was thinking of adapting the Aurora/Revellogram to the Doyusha and not use the Bond pieces. But then, maybe I should check the price on Evilbay the Doyusha is going for. -
Aston Martin DB4 kit?
Exotics_Builder replied to dawgvet's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Sorry that I am a little late to this. Had to dig mine out. The Doyusha is curbside but has a better roofline. The Revel (old Aurora) does have the arch in the door line as shown previously. I have two of the DB4's, the one with the old Aurora art shows a correct roof line, but the built model version does show the arch. -
IWATA NEO AIRBRUSH PROBLEM
Exotics_Builder replied to jpc1968's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I have a IWATA Neo and 2 eclipses (one I won as a prize). So far they have all worked well. Why not contact IWATA (the US branch is in Portland Oregon) and see if they can advise you. I'll assume you didn't bend or blunt the needle on the cleaning. -
IWATA NEO AIRBRUSH PROBLEM
Exotics_Builder replied to jpc1968's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
First thing I would do is fill the cup with thinner and try to spray and do a backflow with the thinner. It sounds like there is dried paint somewhere. Did you spray thinner through after cleaning? -
1968 Hemi Dart - UPDATE 6/29/2015 Last WIP
Exotics_Builder replied to Exotics_Builder's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Getting closer. Continuing to polish the body. On the axle, I ran a brake line across the pumpkin with a connecting block for the line to the master cylinder. However, I made the mistake of watching the Laguna Seca sports car race and got distracted. So I glued the connecting block on the wrong side of the pumpkin (OOPS!). So to compensate (and not restart process) I extended the brake line connector to allow for the misaligned connector. Note to self: Don’t do detail work while having an exciting event on TV!! I could not find any reference of an emergency brake being on these cars as they are race only. Soo I didn’t add an emergency brake line. I also ran a fuel line along the chassis. As best as I could discover, the battery cables were routed through the interior under the flooring. So no visible battery cable running from the trunk to the engine bay. For the grill, I am using the Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland resin piece that takes the PE piece from Model Car Garage. This gives me an open grill area. I applied Spazstik mirror chrome over their black backing. Its good, but not sure if I think it is shiny enough. It is brighter than gloss silver, but may need some tweaking. The interior is moving along. Mounted the seats and applied the seat belt to the driver’s side. It appears only a lap belt on the driver’s side was provided. I added a belt and PE snap for the window mechanism and set it for windows down. I also put in the lower snap for windows up, but doubt it will really be visible. I also added door knobs and BMF’ed the interior. If you are wondering what I used for the door knobs, I found tiny brass nails in the model railroad section of my LHS. Since they brass, you can finagle the flat head to not have it too large. This time, I did not try to add the little dimple at the top of the knob. I may look into this on the next build. Adding a tach to the interior and then will glue in the dashboard and follow on with the engine detailing. Next update in about a week. -
Sadly my wallet is so far safe.

1968 Hemi Dart - UPDATE 6/29/2015 Last WIP
Exotics_Builder replied to Exotics_Builder's topic in WIP: Model Cars
As I am sure you are aware, Evergreen strip has a variety of sizes. I would suggest getting the size slightly larger than the width you're aiming for and .010 in. thick. Also, check the "glass" fitment to do any additional tailoring. I cover the clear plastic glass in Saran wrap to avoid adding too much thickness but avoid any possible scratching. -
1968 Hemi Dart - UPDATE 6/29/2015 Last WIP
Exotics_Builder replied to Exotics_Builder's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Evergreen Styrene strip .010 x .080. Pliable but wider than needed for this application. But I felt shaving back to size better than trying to putty. Only spots I puttied were junctions. If I were really rivet counting, I would have scribed in the trim separation lines for front and rear. -
1968 Hemi Dart - UPDATE 6/29/2015 Last WIP
Exotics_Builder replied to Exotics_Builder's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I am always glad to share ideas that work. I will check later today and let you know. It was thin and narrow, needed "shaving" and some Tamiya putty. Applied with liquid cement. I will get back later. Thanks for the compliment. I find it easier to visually accentuate what I'm talking about. I do get concerned that I am maybe stating too much detail. I wish I had known about the class designation as I try to be as accurate as possible. Thanks for the information on that. -

Lack of knowledge? In my case, those that are most familiar with this did not indicate it was a problem. -
Blue 68 Camaro -- what colour?

Not true. My 68 Z/28 was LeMans Blue. Picked it up in April of 1968 -
1968 Hemi Dart - UPDATE 6/29/2015 Last WIP
Exotics_Builder replied to Exotics_Builder's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Chassis is overspray with the Testor Inca Gold, but there are primer spots showing through. As I was test fitting the rear suspension, I discovered that Revell has different locations for the 440 GTS links versus the 426. The 426 leaf shackles rest on the chassis ribs. As a result, I had to fill in the chassis holes (not prototypical for the shackles) and then painted them. A little rough, but didn’t want to respray. Believe it or not, the slicks in my kit did have M&H Racemaster on the tires but very shallow. Looking at trying to paint them out, I decided it would not look good and no tire decals in kit and my aftermarket stuff as too large. So I cut out the locating ribs for the wheel, reversed the tire and applied Slixx M&H tire decals. I then coated with Testor Dullcote after applying the kit supplied white markers. I think this will work much better. The decals are applied to the painted body, Testor One Shot Inca Gold over Tamiya Gold. The sponsor decals go over the color decals (which are not a 100% fit with the wheel openings, but close enough). I added a couple of extra sponsor decals from Revell’s 68 Firebird as I built it stock and put the racing pieces in the decal spares. I also applied Bare Metal Foil on the trim areas that would be on the racer. Note, per Mopar experts in my club (and backed by photos I found), the side drip rails were body color and most of the cars did not come with bright trim on the door top. I will be applying more clear coat and paint the interior roof flat black. Work is progressing on the interior and I will have photos in the next update. Same with engine detailing. One thing I discovered was that the coil for the Hemi Darts was Petty Blue not black as in the instructions and several restorations/tribute cars. As part of the interior, I got the Competition Resin seat with bracket set and cleaned them up prior to painting. Even though they will be hard to see, I did drill out the brackets for more realism. Of note, the cars only came with Driver Side lap belts, no lap belt for the passenger seat. Interesting safety regs for those days? Next update in about a week.
