  1. Ummmm...what's the dude in the Foose t-shirt doing?
  2. Sam- Very impressive. It's a shame that the dash never got built. I think it's only a matter of time before someone builds one of these things at home. There are homebuilt EDMs and CNC lathes/mills/routers. I bet someone does it.
  3. Yeah we need to get the word out. I'm getting a few pictures together of machined parts for the gallery.
  4. Hey I was talking to Vince Putt about this at PSAB and he made a Yahoo! Group about it. It's called, appropriately enough, ScaleModelMachining. Check it out: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ScaleModelMachining/ Thanks, Vince!
  5. I think it would be cool to see a forum to discuss machining projects related to model building. Whether it's making better brake discs or scratchbuilding a field gun. Maybe this site could try it, but only for car models. I saw the board at AF, but it is pretty much dead.
  6. TorinoBradley was more descriptive than I was with the Big Deuce frame idea. I understand that it can only make flat pieces, but each frame rail could be an assembly of 3 or 4 flat pieces. I really like his idea of a laminate to get the reveal. A coat of primer and a light sanding will make it look like stamped steel. The builder would need to do more work than if he had bought machined billet frame rails, but it could sold for just a few dollars. Try that with CNC-machined parts and it could cost hundreds...or more.
  7. You mean you wouldn't just use a sensitive drilling attachment on the Mill to get evenly-spaced rivet holes for Grandt Line rivets? But seriously- that is one cool old vehicle. How did you make the leaf springs? I'm laminating .010" x .060" strips around a can of Bondo for my 1/35 Rolls-Royce
  8. Smooth firewalls for street rods.
  9. A custom chassis for a Big Deuce '32 Ford. You could have it cut frame rails with kick-up front and rear to lower it. You could stretch the front part of the frame to fit a straight-6, straight-8, or V-12. Same deal for Big T, or even a Deuce in 1/24. Fujimi's V-12 in the Revell/Mono roadster sounds pretty cool. Frame rails with a radical "C" section in the rear for ground-scraping modern pickups. A box-truck conversion kit. Cut all sides of the box, plus a diamond plate bumper and steps. Make stretched frame rails or frame extensions. Engrave horizontal lines for a rear door that slides up. Don't forget 90degree braces to make assembly a bit easier. This, without the need for precise measurements and cuts:
  10. That would be awesome in a street rod that doesn't have a hood, like a '29 Ford roadster or T-bucket.
  11. I just love the Tamiya lacquers in spray cans. I've got a couple of cars painted with them and after using a polishing kit on them, you can read a light bulb in the reflection. For putty, you can't go wrong with Evercoat brand Eurosoft glazing putty. You get it at shops that sell real car paint. It sands and feathers beautifully. I seem to have better luck putting it on over primer. I try to buy everything I can at the local hobby shop. I don't want to lose the one remaining independent store in Austin. You can save a little bit online, but I like having a LHS. If we stop patronizing them, they will disappear.
  12. What can you offer in trade for a Jo-Han hearse, and what condition would you want it in? I have around 8 of them, ranging from glue bomb to MIB. I doubt you have anything rare/OOP that I would want. Maybe you could trade me some cash or some current kit/tool/accessory. I also think you should step up and get the Lincoln kit. You know you want it. Those things aren't falling off trees.
  13. From a September 1989 Fine Scale Modeler article with 1/24 drawing. Mine is in the standard military miniatures scale of 1/35.
  14. YES. PLEASE. There are plenty of places to vent about politics and religion online. I went to one for years. You know why I quit going? Some wacko on there tracked me down through my IP and sent me a package with my screen name on it. The message was clear: I know where to find you. This guy also reports other posters to their local law enforcement for subversive activities if he disagrees with them. I no longer discuss politics and religion online. People take it too personally. I wish others could leave things on topic too.
  15. Eh. It comes in handy at times. I dunno. I find the subject matter boring. I guess resin casters. Don't hold your breath for styrene. Maybe you could get more recent releases of '60s cars and turn them into stock cars.
  16. Wow. You got that pissy over the comments of another poster...as in NOT a moderator? Gee. I hope no one ever tells you that the old kits you love so much are garbage compared to new tools.
  17. Go to www.ferrarichat.com and ask this question on the Vintage board. There are members who rebuild/restore these classic engines. Right now on page 1 there's a thread with several pics of a Lampredi V-12 in various stages of disassembly.

    My sons models

That's some nice work. The builds are really clean. Much better than mine when I was 8 years old.
  19. No V-16 Caddies from the '30s? No Imex '58s? No Revell '57 Eldorado Brougham? Come on, man.
  20. I'd love to see classifieds come back to the magazines
  21. I'd recommend the '32 Ford Pickup body from Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland for one of them and a '29 Ford Roadster for the other. I don't know of a good source for the '29, however.
  22. Because they are the wrong scale.
  23. Accept reality and spend that 200 bucks on a nice resin kit or two. Maybe get several nice resin conversions. If you can't wait for it in styrene or afford it in resin, scratchbuild it.
