I want to build a “beer run” Spitfire. The British air dropped beer to their soldiers after the Normandy invasion (D-Day). I think this is about the coolest thing ever. It’s for a friend of mine to hang from the ceiling of his game room. I have read that some were dropped by Hawker Tempests and even American planes. I have not seen photos of these, but I suppose that could be artistic license for a model (who could say my model is inaccurate?). Thank you. Lee

Is that “Phantom” custom van from a few years ago the right version?

They moved. They are also mainly a consignment shop now. The guy who owned the shop (Rudy Kline…sp?) sold it during the recession. He stayed on as manager for a long time, then opened another store in Kyle, TX, about 30 minutes south. His new store is Lionheart Hobby and it is an awesome hobby shop. Good selection of kits, supplies, books, magazines, everything. Plus Rudy knows pretty much everything about the hobby. You can call him up and ask if anyone makes a model of exactly what you’re looking for and if he doesn’t know the answer, he can find out quickly. Lionheart is an hour drive on a good day. It is still my LHS. I only buy somewhere else if Rudy can’t get it. There is value in having a good brick and mortar hobby shop.

Cut up a Rolls-Royce Merlin or an Allison V-1710 and make up a good story about an 825ci or 855ci heavy truck engine. The Brits had the Rolls-Royce Meteor. The US had the Ford GAA (1650ci V-12 cut down to an 1100ci V-8)

This set is not perfect, but it’s free if you want it. I may have a second set around here somewhere. I’ve missed this week’s window for going to the post office (I work in construction and Saturday is the only day I can mail anything). I’ll look for the second set. The pencil is pointing out damage.

Another old guy giving it a thumbs up. I’m not normally a fan of large diameter wheels, but dang they look good on that car.

Maybe. The boat is 1/25. Airfix made a 1/24 P-51D Mustang with a Merlin engine. This assumes that the stated scale for each is correct. Their old Spitfire may have had a Merlin, also. I believe their new(ish) Spitfire has a Merlin, too. Hmmm I wonder about their 1/24 Mosquito from about ten years ago??

Wow! Thank you. I ordered the decals from Spot Model in Spain.

Did AMT make two 1966 Buick Rivieras?

That would be really cool, or even an all new ‘65 Riviera. It’s such a nice looking car. GM had a lot of nice looking cars in that era. -

Did you scratch build the blower? It looks better than typical injection molded parts from the 1970s. -

Swap meet haul from Modelfiesta 42/what is this kit?

Part of the haul was an AMT Chevrolet Experimental Astro I. The seller pointed out that the asterisk on the price tag meant multiple kits in the same box. He opened it up and showed me there were three or four glue bomb Astro I kits. I just now opened it up and found two Astro I glue bombs, a Dodge Charger 3, and this other concept car that I don’t recognize. What is the white car?

I got the ‘66 low rider kit. I also picked up an ancient Astro I kit. It has several glue bomb Astro Is. Another vendor made a me deal on two Lancia Monte Carlos; an Esci and Heller. One is long tail and the other short. Both based on the same molds. -

Looking for help copying part of a 1/8 scale transaxle
LDO replied to LDO's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
This is made of two pieces. I also thought of the JPS Lotus. I’m sending all kinds of measurements and photos, but I don’t know if it will help the guy. -
It’s part of the 1/8 scale McLaren M23. A guy on Facebook wants measurements in order to build a copy from scratch. I think it would be very difficult to get enough measurements build a copy without having the real part in his hands. The back side has compound curves that would would be very difficult to measure properly. Can this part be copied in resin at a price that would not be cost prohibitive?
