  1. I'll pass on those. Really not into those body styles/lookingbfor something inbuilt. Thanks for checking, though.
  2. I also use tiny tubes. I started doing that ages ago, because of the mess you describe.
  3. Griffon?!! Wow. Too bad it's crude. I would love to have a Griffon or two. That would make a wild pulling tractor.
  4. I found someone overseas who once offered resin wheels and tires for the big Volvo. He's digging out the mold to see if it's good for a few more parts. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
  5. Is this the one from a Rod & Custom 2-part article about 50 years ago? Cool article, but I only have one part of it. Good luck on it. It's a really cool subject.
  6. That's cool, Bill. No hurry here, either.
  7. I believe it is for James Hetfield. I saw it in a magazine not too long ago. I think it was The Rodder's Journal.
  8. Landman- Do you want me to dig for the Airfix engine, or will you look for another source? If you don't want it, I'll trade with Bill for a Phantom Vickie. Lee
  9. Oh yeah- if Jimmy Flintstone can do it, so can AMT.
  10. But I REALLY WANT a Lycoming 420ci flathead straight-8 and a Franklin air-cooled flat-12. AMT are making a HUGE MISTAKE by not offering these in a Parts Pack. I mean come on, these engines could power anything (if you stretch the front end a bit). How hard can it be? Of course the doubting Thomases will say it won't sell, but how do they know? No one has ever offered these engines in a Parts Pack. They have to make them to find out. Did I cover all the usual arguments?
  11. I believe that is Dave Zeuschel. I'm a big fan of warbirds and Reno racers. BTW there is a new resin kit builder who makes racing planes. He is taking pre-orders for Tsunami in 3 scales, with 3 different sets of markings/paint. Lots of other racing planes, too. Civilized Models, IIRC.
  12. Local hobby shop unless they can't get it. I also want to see them stick around.
  13. I may have an extra Merlin from the old Airfix P-51D. We can talk trade if you want. No need for PM. I would be looking for a complete car model. Probably an AMT Phantom Vicky or Revell '29 or '32 Ford.
  14. I don't know about Merlins, but there was a ground vehicle twin called the Meteor. It has a cast iron block and powered tanks and big trucks. Maybe other vehicles as well. It has also powered a few one-off cars. Jay Leno has a car built on old Bentley chassis with a Meteor engine. It looks like the 1930 race car (Heller kit) but is a little bit bigger. I think it would be an awesome powerplant for something that looks like a 1930ish luxury sedan, but I also think it is wildly impractical. It was made for leaded gasoline. Either find that or modify the cylinder heads to use unleaded. I don't know the compression ratio. That might need to be lowered for pump gas. That work would not be cheap on an engine like that. It is fun to dream, though. I also daydream about the Ford GAA. Would love to see that in 1/24 or larger.
  15. It's not the one used in strip mines, that can fit 6 pickups in its dump bed. It is big, though. Bigger than a big rig tractor with a dump bed. It's working within walking distance of my house. My subdivision is getting bigger. After 13 years on a street with only 2 houses, they are extending the street to build more. It's kind of a drag. These big trucks aren't my bag, but if anyone wants pics, access is pretty easy right now.
  16. I think this is all just daydreaming. It's cool that there are a few modern parts packs available, but the market is not like it was when we were kids. I think I have only seen one or two of the recent parts packs at the LHS. Again, I won't hold my breath waiting for the engine parts pack. I do have several of the engines I mentioned; a couple of early Hemis from Moebius 1955 Chrysler, Ford 4.6 DOHC from AMT's Phantom Vicky, and a Cadillac 331 from Revell's '49 Mercury. These are better than parts packs. They came with other cool stuff, like a Deuce chassis with independent front suspension and a couple of curbside '50s cars. They could also be built as slammers and their interior parts used for some other project. Like Bill said; get the whole kit and have extras for the parts box.
  17. That's because the other have fake box art.
  18. There are a couple of forums where you could place a "Wanted" ad. Large Scale Planes would be the first choice. Next would be Aircraft Resource Center.
  19. An idea I would like to see: engines. Two different parts packs; one for vintage engines like flathead Ford, Cadillac 331/365/390, Buick Nailhead, Early Hemi, etc. Another for modern EFI engines; Ford 4.6 DOHC, Chevy LS, Chrysler new hemi. I'm not holding my breath. I don't want to see any of the model companies invest hundreds of thousands of dollars into a dud. It's bad news all around. Lost revenue that means we don't get that '27 Ford roadster street rod kit next year...or whatever cool kit that gets torpedoed.
  20. Yeah the resin cab is obviously a copy of the diecast. I want to make a custom toy hauler, but I just couldn't butcher that nice diecast. That's why I ordered the Flintstone piece. I suppose no one will bring calipers and tell me something is .045" off. Thanks
  21. That color combo is not my cup of tea, but you are doing a great job. Looks really good so far.
  22. I know they call it 1/24. Jimmy Flintstone offers a resin cab and calls it 1/25. I have both and took measurements. The bumper/grille popped off the diecast. It snapped right on to the resin truck. Anyone know what the true scale is?
  23. And yes, they are fake. At least the box art, anyway. Still good for a chuckle. https://jalopnik.com/these-are-the-worst-selling-model-car-kits-of-all-time-1712668537 I would buy the heck out of the one with the Alf tie-in.
  24. I looked for Pocher Volvo tires. Obviously hard to find. Are there any r/c tires that would look right on a 1/8 big rig? Any tires from another source? Thanks. Lee
  25. That is really cool. I'm 48, but I really enjoy reading model magazines from back then. Your model looks like it could be the subject of a how-to article from back then. Good work.
