  1. I just read an article in the new Street Rodder. They mention 3 degrees up for trans and 3 down for diff. How do you find true horizontal...or does it matter? Thanks. Lee
  2. Looks good in the ebay listing, and he has great feedback. Just thought I would check here before taking the plunge. For those not familiar, he makes the roadster with opening trunk. It has structure on the inside of the doors and trunk and a deuce type dashboard. He also makes a '32 5-window coupe (chopped, IIRC), and a deuce grille shell that looks better than the Revell part. Thanks. Lee
  3. Yeah. What did Fotki do? I've had a paid account with them for 17 years.
  4. It's not cool when you read a photo-intensive How To thread and the pics are gone or replaced with something else because the poster has a free hosting account with very little storage space. It can occasionally be good for a laugh, though. Send a PM if you want an example. Not posting that link here. I may take a while to get back to you. About to be away from the internet for a while.
  5. Don't like the wait, will still renew subscription. It's a good magazine
  6. I like lead foil, but it can be hard to find these days. Some folks like cheap masking tape for seatbelts. Fold it onto itself. It will still be thin and it has a little bit of surface texture. I have also heard of using paper cut into thin strips.
  7. Also- what's the deal with bumping threads this old? It seems to be a trend around here lately.
  8. Cool. I'll get one. Bonus question: Real world, is there a stroker kit for these early Caddy engines? IIRC, there was mention a 441ci Caddy in Hot Rod magazine not so long ago. Something about it being built for a guy who never picked it up. Wondering if that was the early engine or the '63 and later one. It's for Revell's '29 Roadster on Deuce rails. Thanks again.
  9. Hoping to find something like multiple Strombergs. Anything out there?
  10. It's "Mr Masking Sol Neo" from Mr Hobby. It's a liquid masking agent. Most often used to keep paint off an area where you don't want it. There are similar products from other companies. For what he's using it for, Bare Metal Foil also works. It's thinner, which is good. It can also be easier to find, if you like buying from local shops. I have used it when making air intake scoops on WWII aircraft.
  11. What does Steve sell?
  12. Yep. I don't want to hide the back end of that engine. To me, it is a beautiful thing. It just looks so nice. Little bit of recess in the firewall=ok. Need to stretch kit chassis. Model will be closed cab pickup with fenders, so no need to chop up a Deuce frame.
  13. Yeah, but then we could get into an extended cab conversion. Ugh. I think I'll go for a stretched chassis. Best solution all around. Also- I would like to stick with the Tamiya engine. The detail on it is really good.
  14. I was thinking a recessed firewall might take care of it.
  15. My idea was inspired by this: This thing is so cool, I would consider making a real copy. I just don't know about a roadster, though. Maybe the closed cab pickup. Definitely with air conditioning. Hey- I live in Texas. Hey I just noticed it's on Deuce rails. I have only seen that pic on my phone. I think I'll dig out a Duece kit and see where that goes.
  16. I had an idea for a Revell '29 Ford closed cab pickup powered by Tamiya's Jaguar 3.8L inline 6 from the Mk II Saloon. That engine and trans is A LOT longer than the Revell 4-banger. It would need a new chassis, or require stretching the kit chassis. Ugh. I was hoping for a quick and easy build.
  17. <ahem> No. It gets very few miles on it. I drive a company van for work, and take it home. The last few weeks have been really hectic, including a vacation that was planned almost a year ago. (My sister's family and I took Mom on a cruise to the Caribbean for her birthday). It might not slow down for another month or so. Just a lot of things at home that take priority for now. The car is ok to drive around town.
  18. Good to know. I would sefinitwly give it Webers and new headers. Thanks Bill
  19. I know that there is a 3-D printed Jaguar 3.8 inline six. Is Monogram's engine so bad that someone would spend big bucks to replace it? I think it would look great in a street rod that has no hood. Thanks. Lee
  20. Whoa! Alan- I had one of your Vesco-Nish streamliners years ago. It was among the items that were stolen from storage while I was deployed. If you drag out those molds, I would love to get another. The belly tank, too. Also- for anyone else reading, I found half of a 1/18 P-38 belly tank. If anyone is interested in having resin copies made, I could clean it up and send it to a caster. Only one half, because the other half was stretched a bit. If someone wants to cannibalize a 1/18 street rod or stocker for parts, this could be a cool conversion.
  21. There is a 1/18 plastic P-38. Not a kit. It's one of the 21st Century brand planes. Lots of parts available in 1/18. If you're willing to break out the razor saw and do a little scratchbuilding, there are some other plastic kits that could make a belly tank or streamliner. Pegasus makes a big (1/18?) injection molded V-1 "buzz bomb". The airframe resembles a drop tank. Not the P-38 tank, but that's not breaking any rules. Lindberg's "Snark" ballistic missile would make a cool jet or rocket-propelled LSR. Monogram's 1/72 scale B-52 fuselage has a cross section that is a rectangle with rounded corners, somewhat like the Goldenrod and Mickey Thompson Challenger 1 LSRs. Cut out how much you need and carve a new nose and tail. Lots of ways to get a model land speed racer if you put in a little extra work.
  22. Oh. I didn't know there were two (or more) versions. I have only seen the White 3000 as modern custom vehicles. The Jimmy Flintstone cab arrived on Friday. I did just a little bit of cleanup and started cutting up a Galaxie Limited 21 foot trailer to use as a sleeper. It has nice rounded corners, so it's ideal for that...except for the back end. I'm going to find out if I can get a second front wall From Galaxie Limited, to use for a back wall. I think it will be a cool project. The back end will have a ramp to carry a street rod or pair of motorcycles.
  23. I'm in a hotel near Galveston. We stayed here last night in order to save trouble and time getting to the ship. Didn't want to leave Austin at 4am and hope traffic would cooperate. It's myself and my sister's family taking Mom on a cruise to the Caribbean. We wanted to do something nice for her birthday. It's the first cruise ever for Mom and I, but sis and her family have done this several times. It sounds like fun. They even have a bar with team trivia, which is something I really love. I used to do that every Wednesday night at a sports bar in Austin. Anyway- it all sounds like fun. Full dislosure: a Jimmy Flintstone White 3000 COE resin cab showed up yesterday. I cleaned it up a bit and began cutting up a Galaxie Limited 21 foot trailer to make a long sleeper. The idea is for a toy hauler. It was all I could do to leave it on the work bench. I REALLY wanted to bring it along, if only for more cleanup and mocking up the sleeper. Model nerd and proud of it.
  24. I have no idea how easy it would be, compared to other models, but I think Revell's 1/16 '73-'87 pickup would be awesome to stretch out. When I was a teenager back in the '80s, Chevy 4 door dualies were popular among ranchers in north Texas. Some had pretty cool custom paint. If you're going to stretch it, may as well go nuts with it. Yeah, I would love to have a 1/16 6-door Chevy.
