1/24 aircraft engines
LDO replied to landman's topic in WIP: All The Rest: Motorcycles, Aviation, Military, Sci-Fi, Figures
I may have an extra Merlin from the old Airfix P-51D. We can talk trade if you want. No need for PM. I would be looking for a complete car model. Probably an AMT Phantom Vicky or Revell '29 or '32 Ford. -
1/24 aircraft engines

I don't know about Merlins, but there was a ground vehicle twin called the Meteor. It has a cast iron block and powered tanks and big trucks. Maybe other vehicles as well. It has also powered a few one-off cars. Jay Leno has a car built on old Bentley chassis with a Meteor engine. It looks like the 1930 race car (Heller kit) but is a little bit bigger. I think it would be an awesome powerplant for something that looks like a 1930ish luxury sedan, but I also think it is wildly impractical. It was made for leaded gasoline. Either find that or modify the cylinder heads to use unleaded. I don't know the compression ratio. That might need to be lowered for pump gas. That work would not be cheap on an engine like that. It is fun to dream, though. I also daydream about the Ford GAA. Would love to see that in 1/24 or larger. -
It's not the one used in strip mines, that can fit 6 pickups in its dump bed. It is big, though. Bigger than a big rig tractor with a dump bed. It's working within walking distance of my house. My subdivision is getting bigger. After 13 years on a street with only 2 houses, they are extending the street to build more. It's kind of a drag. These big trucks aren't my bag, but if anyone wants pics, access is pretty easy right now.

I think this is all just daydreaming. It's cool that there are a few modern parts packs available, but the market is not like it was when we were kids. I think I have only seen one or two of the recent parts packs at the LHS. Again, I won't hold my breath waiting for the engine parts pack. I do have several of the engines I mentioned; a couple of early Hemis from Moebius 1955 Chrysler, Ford 4.6 DOHC from AMT's Phantom Vicky, and a Cadillac 331 from Revell's '49 Mercury. These are better than parts packs. They came with other cool stuff, like a Deuce chassis with independent front suspension and a couple of curbside '50s cars. They could also be built as slammers and their interior parts used for some other project. Like Bill said; get the whole kit and have extras for the parts box.

Funny article on worst-selling model cars of all time

That's because the other have fake box art. -

There are a couple of forums where you could place a "Wanted" ad. Large Scale Planes would be the first choice. Next would be Aircraft Resource Center. -
An idea I would like to see: engines. Two different parts packs; one for vintage engines like flathead Ford, Cadillac 331/365/390, Buick Nailhead, Early Hemi, etc. Another for modern EFI engines; Ford 4.6 DOHC, Chevy LS, Chrysler new hemi. I'm not holding my breath. I don't want to see any of the model companies invest hundreds of thousands of dollars into a dud. It's bad news all around. Lost revenue that means we don't get that '27 Ford roadster street rod kit next year...or whatever cool kit that gets torpedoed.

What is the scale of Danbury Mint White 3000?
LDO replied to LDO's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah the resin cab is obviously a copy of the diecast. I want to make a custom toy hauler, but I just couldn't butcher that nice diecast. That's why I ordered the Flintstone piece. I suppose no one will bring calipers and tell me something is .045" off. Thanks -
And yes, they are fake. At least the box art, anyway. Still good for a chuckle. https://jalopnik.com/these-are-the-worst-selling-model-car-kits-of-all-time-1712668537 I would buy the heck out of the one with the Alf tie-in.

That is really cool. I'm 48, but I really enjoy reading model magazines from back then. Your model looks like it could be the subject of a how-to article from back then. Good work.

I'm sorry for your loss. They are like family. It takes a while to get used to your little buddy being gone.

Every once in a while, there's a good one. This reckless driver was the subject of a crazy number of memes. I sent her a message on Facebook, offering to be a designated driver if she's ever in Austin. I did not get a reply. LOL.

I haven't heard from ebay seller and it is driving me nuts.
LDO replied to LDO's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I finally heard from him. He said they will ship on Monday. It's a big order for resin parts, and he's working on them now. IMHO, anything listed on ebay should be ready for shipping, but I also know that a lot of resin products are a labor of love and the folks doing it aren't paying the bills with it. Maybe he just didn't expect a big order all at one time. Definitely looking forward to getting that package. I feel like Bart Simpson waiting for his spy camera. -
Yeah, but Sela Ward in the 1980s...wow.

Mine totaled $437. Not something I can do very often. -

Yeah. 99.9% smooth transactions. Paid with PayPal. Not worried that I will lose money. Just anxious because I haven't heard from him. Again- I don't want to trash him. I haven't mentioned his name. For all I know, there's a package on my porch right now. -
I don't want to trash the guy yet. He has a 100% rating on his feedback with around 900 transactions. I bought 3 different items on Sunday and paid immediately, but status is still "Not Shipped" and he hasn't answered either of the questions I sent. It is driving me nuts. Just had to get that off my chest.

Why don't we have a nice Plastic Crosley kit ?

I'd buy none. -
This thread has far too few photos.

New Tamiya Lacquers for Airbrushing?
LDO replied to Snake45's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Some of those military colors will work on cars. Put some gloss on it and a lot of those subdued colors would be great for cars made before the 1960s. Somewhere in my stash is a Jo-Han V-16 Cadillac in two-tone blue using Tamiya spray paint. Overall light blue that was likely a German WWII aircraft color, with trim in a darker blue/gray. It stalled because of a broken windshield post.
