  1. Nice! PM your address and I'll get it out as soon as I can.
  2. Thursday at the latest. I requested that day off. It's my birthday and (hopefully) the start of a 4-day weekend. I'm a plumber. I get paid hourly, with ten hours or so of overtime a week. It's tough to give up an hour or more of OT to stop at the Post Office.
  3. Mustangdude made a deal with me in PM. I would like another GT500 engine, though. If you want to make the same deal, I'll trade for a Revell '29 Ford, when it gets released. Just agree to it here. I'll take your word for it and send the Mustang. Send the '29 when it gets released. If you have an airplane stash, I'm looking for 1/48 B-29s, B-24s, and 1/72 B-36s.
  4. Specifically, magnesium. I'm wondering about getting a real car part polished, but I don't want to look after it daily. Can clear powder coat, or some other clear, keep the shine up, or will it dull because of the clear?
  5. Just better looking pulleys. The detail is soft on the kit parts. I'm building a show rod/street rod with exposed engine, so it's easy to see, not like under the hood of the GT500. BTW- if you want a GT500 minus engine, let me know. The engine is all I'm using out of the kit.
  6. ...and if so, I'm wondering if it's affordable. Thanks. Lee
  7. Look for tires from a Lamborghini Countach. It had 345 series tires. Also look for a Koenig Ferrari Testarossa.
  8. Whoa. A tire 24" wide? I was going to recommend a tire from a Fujimi exotic car, but I don't know of any that wide.
  9. I'll have to look for that back issue of MCM.
  10. Get one kit with a wheel you like. Have a machinist make a racing slick that fits. Have the combo copied in resin, either in one piece or two. I contacted a big player in the resin biz about copying parts for a project of mine. I was really surprised about how reasonable the price was. WAY cheaper than the learning curve if I tried it myself. The price request was for a set of four identical fenders/wheel pants for a 1930s art-deco looking "what-if" land speed racer in 1/16. The fenders are about 5 inches long and an inch or so high. I can't buy an Alumilite starter kit for the price I was quoted.

    GT 500

Tell us about those wheels. They look pretty wild.
  12. I should have added that modern (EFI) would be better. A water-cooled Vee engine. I may just look for a GT-500 engine.
  13. It's for a hot rod with an exposed engine. Would prefer a V-engine. Something besides SBC or BBC. Wondering what is out there. If only someone made a 1/12 Porsche 928 4-can engine. That would be awesome. Thanks, Lee
  14. Does it have to be unbuilt? I've gotten some real bargains in 1/6 scale Tamiya built up bikes.
  15. THANK YOU. I WISH I COULD USE A BIGGER FONT TO SAY THAT. If you find yourself in the Austin area, I'll buy you a beer for that. Yes, that one post and nothing else.
  16. I'll provide the details later. Just dust off that checkbook.
  17. I have a great investment opportunity for you.
  18. That's why I buy stuff at the LHS. It's worth paying a few dollars more to HAVE a local hobby shop. I always check to see if I can get it there first.
  19. I put tuna steaks on the grill last night. First time for that. I used a marinade recipe that I found online. Turned out pretty good.
  20. I got it on vinyl at this great little store. You've probably never heard of it. But seriously- they don't show all of the people who say they've never heard of X band.
  21. I'm fond of this one.
  22. Oh- I forgot to add: I did get a second grill. An all stainless Jenn-Air off Craigslist. It has the ceramic burner on the back wall for the rotisserie. Also forgot to mention that both will run on natural gas when I get a gas line run from the meter to the patio. The Jenn-Air is already natural gas. The Brinkmann is propane for now, but I got a conversion kit for it. The rotisserie basket is scheduled to arrive on Friday. I'll test it out with veggies and give a report. The guy makes two models; one is 18" long and the other is 24.5". I got the longer one. It was $175 on eBay. That may sound expensive, but I shopped around and found out it's a pretty darn good price. I've seen cylinders made of perforated stainless that are aimed at home coffee roasters. They are smaller and cost more. There is of course more than one size, but the smallest I saw was $275 or so.
  23. Same grill. First impressions are...thumbs up! However, it is a budget model for a grill of this size. Much of it is thin sheet steel, either painted or powder coated (not sure which), with stainless in the right spots. Most of the right spots, anyway. A more expensive grill will have more stainless. I think that with regular cleaning and maintenance, it should give years of good service. Maybe 10 years. I base that on the Brinkmann that my brother in law replaced with the 810-6630-S. He gave me his old grill. I thought he replaced it because the old one was too small...until I opened it. Ugh. Rust city. I didn't even consider firing it up. Anyway- I had planned on getting two grills. One as a dedicated rotisserie/side dish grill, and one for the main courses. Another goal is to do as much cooking as possible outside during the summertime. My house is kind of small, and using the oven/stove can really heat it up. Here's some bacon for the jalapeno poppers on the side burner: Tonight I sauteed some chicken and steamed some veggies on the side burner. I've even read about using the grill as an oven. I'm going to get a better thermometer so I can get the temp just right, then I'll see where that goes. A future project will be a concrete stand with fire brick top as a place to cook with a Dutch oven/camp stove.
  24. This grill has the stainless "tube" type burner. It's the one that Home Depot sells for $299. I got a natural gas conversion for it. I haven't converted it, yet. I need to run some gas line from the meter to the back porch. It's about 25' in a straight line. I want to pour a concrete pad first, to bolt the grill in place for safety. It's overkill, but that's me. I have also been reading about using a gas grill as a smoker. I have to try that, although I do plan to build an "Ugly Drum Smoker" sometime soon.
