Ever put in a big bid on an auction…Edit: I didn’t win
LDO replied to LDO's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I thought I had deleted this before posting. It seems a bit awkward and rambling. Anyway- it was a resin model of the “Red Baron” P-51 (“RB-51”) Mustang. The real plane was heavily modified, including a Rolls-Royce Griffon V-12 with a displacement of 2240ci. The model was made by Fisher Model and Pattern Works. The company went out of business when Jerry Fisher’s house burned down a few years ago. It sold for $778.96, a LOT more than my bid. -
Anyone make '57/'58 Dodge Royal Lancers in 1/12?

This guy is on Facebook as “Jo Schmocan”. He has offered to do custom printing since Shapeways went out of business. https://custom3dscalecreations.com/ https://m.facebook.com/groups/675181667129250/ -
If you want to get rid of the pro/street chassis, I’m interested.

I wonder what those wheels cost? That’s pretty wild.

I understand the proxy bidding. I once bid $225.00 on an Etzel’s Speed Classics Stutz Blackhawk LSR. Thankfully I got it for about a third of that. Such a cool car. This current item is so cool, I may bid more. -
I mean, I put in just about the most I would pay for something so rare and so cool, but No one has outbid me yet, which is a huge surprise. I don’t really need to spend that money, but man it would be a coup to win that auction.

Drag car from New Zealand about 30 years ago. May still be around, not sure. It raced in the “Wild Bunch” class. Sort of like Pro Mod.- 130 replies

I love Coca-Cola. LOVE IT. But type 3 diabetes had me cut down to pretty much no soda. A friend got me to try Arnold Palmer Lite (half tea and half lemonade) from Arizona Ice Tea. It’s really good. It has about half the sugar and carbs of Coke. Costs less, too.

What is your Favourite Classic Car?

Update: I found a model of the Lamborghini 350 GT. It’s available in 1/12 and 1/8. The seller has 100% positive feedback with 1039 transactions. Appears to be safe (as in quality product/not a scam). https://www.ebay.com/itm/305750492381?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D777008%26algo%3DPERSONAL.TOPIC%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20240315132637%26meid%3D79650df1ed8547c2940700ea1861a92c%26pid%3D102055%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26mehot%3Dnone%26itm%3D305750492381%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D4375194%26algv%3DRecentlyViewedItemsV2MobileWithMLRV6RankerPricelessTop50Features&_trksid=p4375194.c102055.m146925&_trkparms=parentrq%3Ab583f46f1910ab8d0e9139f0ffff7aa4|pageci%3A860f23b6-6994-11ef-b32f-8a67694ff702|iid%3A1|vlpname%3Avlp_homepage -

Gosh, there are so many. Lamborghini 350 GT and Miura. Ferrari 275 GTB. 1966 Ford Galaxie 500 coupe. 1969 Camaro. 1970-1973 Camaro Rally Sport. 1971 Barracuda. Mercedes-Benz W111s with the Euro-spec “Cathedral” headlights. (Pic). An hour from now I could have an entirely different list. That Mercedes is just dreamy. -

The first Duesenberg Model J. It looks similar to the Monogram Town Car with body by Murphy, but there are differences. The reveals are different. The body is shorter, ending at about the rear axle center line, plus other small differences. It’s very elegant. I think this is the only photo in existence of this car. If you don’t get every detail just right, no one will know. A Larry Shinoda sketch of what the C2 Corvette might have looked like. That fastback…wow. 1987 AMBR winning Ferrari powered deuce. The engine is from the 365 GTC/4. The carbs are between the dual overhead cams. Years and years ago, I took measurements from the engine in the Fujimi Ferrari Daytona and started scratch building one in 1/8 scale. What I didn’t know at the time was that the Fujimi engine was way too “square”; too many sharp angles. The real engine looks more sculpted; lots of soft edges. Somewhere around here is that milled acrylic block + separate oil pan that just doesn’t look right. -

Edit: add pics of what you would like to see as a kit. It’s a lot easier today than in years past. Some could be conversion of existing kits. Some would be a kit bash or full scratch build/3D print. This is just a discussion. I’m not asking anyone to design and print anything. Six door Chevy squarebody pickup. This can be made from existing crew cab 3D prints. As far as I know, no one is making a six door. This would be cool as a full custom, with a matching speed boat. This little Jaguar XK powered roadster pickup. All parts can be sourced in styrene. The Tamiya Jaguar Mk. II Saloon has the engine with Weber carbs. IIRC. Hemi powered roadster pickup on Deuce rails. All available in styrene. The Hemi is available in the Moebius Chrysler 300 kits. Swipe the engine, then build a curbside Chrysler 300 lead sled. Photo is from a Lonestar Roundup a few years ago. I wanted to build a real car like that. I had heard they lack legroom, though. I wanted to sit in one to see what it’s like. This guy was nice enough to let me sit in his car. I’m 5’9’ with a 30” inseam…so short legs. I would not be able to drive that thing across town. My legs were pulled up to the steering wheel and my feet were pulled up too. -

Yeah AMT makes the trailer and so does Italeri. I don’t know if they are same kit in different boxes. Italeri also makes a 20’ trailer. I called my LHS to ask about these and I was told that Trumpeter also make these in 1/24. I believe Italeri and Trumpeter offer them as containers without the trailer frame. They may be available in 1/35. I’m not sure, though. If so, I would hope they cost less. I’ve seen some really cool houses made from these. One had a vertical 20’ with round windows on top of a 40’. Sort of an observation tower. A cool idea for one in the middle of nowhere. When I left Bagram airfield in May 2006, they were welding a bunch of these together for sort of an apartment block for Air Force house. I called it a “Connex Condo” (we called them connexes in the Army). Lots of ideas for houses. I was thinking of a roof with a guard rail around the top it and a small garden. Maybe covered table for a place to relax. If the kits weren’t so expensive, I think they would be a great subject for a group build.
