  1. Thanks, y'all. The wheels do look red but they're actually the same Testors square bottle orange as the interior trim. Rich, it's not a Mopar but I just wanted a relatively quick, ez build at that time. I don't even remember buying the kit ! I got another Ford (a '34 altered pickup) in the works now, maybe I'll post some pictures soon, but that was shelved for the '68 Road Runner. Slow progress on that one is better than no progress on any and I should be able to post some pictures of that in a couple of days- maybe sooner...
  2. There seems to be a lot of exaggeration here. Is the body really so ugly, so out of proportion as to be totally unusable? From what I see in the pictures, it looks fine. Consider the rest of the kit. Is it 100% accurate in all dimensions, proportions, details, etc? There are options:1.Use the aftermarket body. 2.Build the kit as is. 3. Don't get the kit at all. I have nothing against using an aftermarket resin replacement body if that's what floats your boat, but I wonder about the rest of the model that is being created with that body. Just how accurate will it be? How perfect can you get it? As I have posted in this thread before- NOTHING is perfect.
  3. Does the Rat Roaster kit come with drilled-out or simulated bomber seats? If it does, I have a build idea...
  4. Niko, that's a lot of work you're putting into an ooooooollllllllld kit and it shows- it's looking good. Who makes hex styrene tubing? Combine that with a short piece of wire and a slice of styrene rod and that would be a good bolt, nut, washer detail. Mitch P- Evergreen makes hex styrene rod in different sizes; you can use their round styrene rod as washers, too.
  5. I had the 1/20 AMX when it was first issued. I remember that it had actual soft, vinyl seats and it was molded in blue. I don't think I ever finished it because of the scale difference. I wouldn't get it now for the same reason, but if someone were to produce one in 1/25, I would- and the Matador, too.
  6. Rick- you really don't like FORD, do you? This string is not a hate rant against any particular manufacturer; it seems every one of them has been tagged here for some kind of problems. Domestic and foreign. I am a 100% Mopar guy and I pointed out in a previous post that Chrysler issued a recall for ignition switch problems. The problem has nothing to do with Ford v. Chevy v. Dodge v. Toyota v. whoever... that stuff is for NASCAR, the NHRA, etc. We are discussing the problems with today's corporate America, how and why things got to be that way and how the situation affects all of us in our daily lives. When it comes to important stuff like that, brand loyalty sits in the waaaaaaayyyyyyy back seat.
  7. That is a really nice build and the color is great. Gotta love Tamiya TS paint colors and they dry quick.
  8. Consider the different Charger variations or "generations" through the years.
  9. Thanx, Wayne- I might just do that , even though I have about 20 projects in the works and about 100 unbuilts on the shelves- but, there's always room for more (especially the Fox Mustang or the S&M 'cuda or another Revell '09 Challenger or... ) And thanks for all the comments. Harry, thanks for the edit. This is such an easy kit , I might just build another one, but clean and shiny. And it rolls, too! That firewall detail is what is molded on the kit part- I just took my time and used a reeeeeeal fine brush and a little bit of thinner for a better flow.
  10. Very nice, great choice of colors and the interior, while simple, looks great. I'd be happy to have that one on my shelves.
  11. You're right, Tom. It's a changing world. Wait til our grandchildren see what their grandchildren are into- I'd love to be there for that! One thing hasn't changed- even as a kid, I never really was into the TV or far-out custom cars. I built two- the Mannix (Toronado) roadster and the T.H.E.Cat 'vette. None of the others appealed to me. Maybe if the Adam 12 Belvederes were available, or Squad 51...
  12. Nice build; neat, clean and shiny. The foil looks great.
  13. And, three more... but I don't know how to remove the duplicate shots of the rear... ">http:// ">http:// ">http://
  14. Yep, it's an AMT '39 Ford, built just about box stock and completed about... 8(?) years ago. I don't remember if the tach on the dash came with the kit and I know the license plate frame didn't- it's an NNL East item. I didn't even drill out the exhaust or the intakes. I used Testors Olive Drab with Dullcote to protect it from fingerprints. Your comments are welcome. http:// http:// http:// http://
  15. I vaguely remember seeing an ad for a JoHan 1969 Plymouth Fury kit in an old Auto World catalog way back in the day. Man, was I hot for that kit...
  16. Back in the early '80s, the Olds Cutlass Supreme was one of, if not the best selling cars in that period. There seemed to be a gazillion of those boxy, cranberry-colored cars all over the place. I'm a bit surprised that it didn't make the list.
  17. Jason, you will always be your own worst critic. You will always know of the little flaws in your builds, as we all know of those in our own. You'll always think you could have done better- we all feel the same way, no matter how well a model turns out or even how well it might do in contests. I look at stuff that I built 10, 15 or twenty years ago and think : "If I only did...". That's just the way it is, and it makes us strive to do better in the next build, the one after that, etc. You do the best you can each time- even for a snap kit. That's all one can ask of one's self.
  18. Bernard, I have found that if I apply Testors Dullcote to get a flat finish, and leave it dry overnight (a few hours...?), that finish is pretty durable, far more than a flat color paint finish.
  19. I think you missed the "...have never been kitted" (ital. mine) part. Anybody can buy a diecast, if they choose to spend that kind of money, and say "Look at what I got!" Be advised that I do have over two hundred diecasts in my collection; most 1/64, a few 1/24 or other scales. They are a form of instant gratification and they save time that I would rather devote to my priority, which is building/fabricating/creating, to the best of my abilities.
  20. I think we don't see many, if any, "new" dragsters or funny cars or pro stocks today because they all look alike. Except for graphics, of course. Same with NASCAR. One is hard-pressed to determine a Ford from a Chevy from a Toyota until one sees the manufacturer's logo or nameplate somewhere on the vehicle. And the corporate sponsors lend little to the motorhead or speedfreak or "carguy"(please, no offense intended to anyone) mindset. Sunglasses? Glorified courier services? Soda, insurance, tractor manufacturers? And the cars have no cool names. I don't even think any have names now, but I could be wrong. They might go fast but they're colorful blurs with no character. And, in my humble opinion, I think Revell should have produced the McMullen roadster in kit form instead of that green Deuce. That car has been around forever, in different stages of evolution. Think of all the kit options... But, what do I know?
  21. 5 days? I wish I could get something built in just 5 days, especially something that cool! Love the wheel/tire combos.
  22. You can get a great finish with spray cans. ">http:// Testors One Coat Mythical Maroon with One Coat Wet Look Clear. Polished and waxed. A little fuzz/dust here and there due to static from polishing. This picture doesn't do justice to the finish.. An airbrush will give you better control but that doesn't necessarily mean a better finish.
