  1. Michael, there is no way I would use those big wheels on this build. That would completely go against the street machine look I'm going for and besides, I just don't like them . I am, however, considering the use of the wheels in the Foose 67 Charger kit on a '70 Challenger that I have, because they do look like Mopar rallye wheels and I am going for a more contemporary, 21st century look for that one.
  2. Did you ever spill a bottle of lacquer thinner on your bench as you're polishing a model? It's not a pretty sight... But, life goes on !
  3. That's a cool project. I've been considering magnets for the doors in a coupe of old Revell 55 and 57 Chevys that I have. Did you try using just one magnet with a piece of metal first, or did you just start with two magnets to be sure?
  4. Slusher, you have to make a day of it. Don't go for just one kit; make a list- check it twice- and bring some extra cash and a couple 40% coupons. The HLs by me have good selectiosn of paints and glues and some "specialty" tools, too. Even some raw materials for fabrication. They have an app for Android phones, too, for that coupon. You can download it while you're there. Have some breakfast or lunch while you're out, stop along the way for a magazine or two, then head home to enjoy all the goodies. If you're married, it's always helpful to bring your wife if she's into sewing or anything like that.
  5. Very nice, clean and simple with just enough of the little things. I gotta start building like that again!
  6. Call me old-fashioned, but I still like to have printed material in my hands. Then again, I can remember having just six TV channels plus one for PBS and UHF was just plain... weird "static interference". I think what bothers me most about magazines (and I cite Hot Rod) here is all the ads for non-automotive products- Pajama Grams, Viagara and Cialis and other male-enlargement products... oh, wait... "Hot Rod". Now I get it !!!
  7. ">http:// ">http:// The wheels and tires are big and little Blue Streaks from one of the Revell Deuce kits. I removed the sidewall detail and used waterslide decals that I got from Tommy Logan, right here on this forum. They came out really nice and add to the detail of the period. The dash has some additional details per some great reference material that I found online- the brake pedal is from another Revell B-body kit, the e-brake pedal from the Road Runner kit; both pedal arms are plain old "standard staples", as is the brake release handle and the supports for the vent controls. Anything else that's white is styrene stock.
  8. Your build is looking good. I'm not a fan of the current huge diameter wheels, either, but these look like Mopar rallye wheels and they might look nice on one of Revell's current Challengers. Hmm...
  9. Actually, that's the "Milennium" issue of the kit; it contains no references to the W.B. cartoon character at all- I will probably get the Keith Marks decals for it. And, thanks for the comments. I'll leave the stance as is.
  10. This will be a "what if" build- what if I had one of these back in 1983? Did a test-fit last night to check the stance; the front spindles were fabricated with a drop, the rear leaves were modified for a little rake and I didn't want to go further without some input. Your comments and ideas are welcome. Thanks for looking.
  11. Tim, you're correct here, but I wonder how and why Revell (and yes, all of the other manufacturers) allow some of the blatant errors to happen and why we, the consumer/customers, are seemingly ignored in our inquiries or dismissed in an offhand manner. Maybe this '58 Vette kit has no problems in molding, accuracy, etc, but there are at least a couple of kits within the past two or three years that are the "gorilla in the room". We know there are problems, they know there are problems, but... so what? The problems won't be corrected, and that's that. Some years ago, Revell issued the '69 Charger. The body lines were wrong, so Revell fixed the kit and the customers who bought the initial release. I, myself, was sent an entire kit with the new body (and decals). At the time, Revell was advising that they would merely send just the corrected body, and that's what I was waiting for. But they did acknowledge the problem and took the appropriate action. "We" have come a long way with technology since then and have more than ample reference material for all kinds of stuff, and in many cases, actual examples of the subject material. Perhaps Revell (and all of the manufacturers) should hire someone to go through this and other modeling forums on occasion. What other way do they have to hear from us as a collective group and not just the casual, letter-writing loner? Mistakes are made by everyone, and the bigger people will owe up to them and correct them in the best way available.
  12. Really nice, really clean and sharp. I'd be happy to have that on my shelf. Gives me some replica ideas...
  13. Really nice, clean build, Chuck. I have one of these that I picked up when they first came out; your build gives me a little inspiration for mine.
  14. That looks really good. I like the Ford powerplant in the Chevy, it's not something you see every day.
  15. That's really looking good. You're doing some nice things with a not-too-nice kit.
  16. The .062 rod might seem small during fabrication but would probably look more in-scale after a coat or two of paint.
  17. The outdoor shots are from last summer; the indoor shots from late 2010 and mid 2011. If you look close, you can see some details that had been added after the model was "completed" and some changes in and among the display accessories. Nick, I'm working on a '68 Road Runner now, and I hope the finished product matches the Charger. I have a lot more reference material for this one. Thanks again
  18. Thanks for all the compliments . I'm not that great with a camera so I was surprised that some of the pictures came out as good as they did.
  19. I agree, Harry. Every manufacturer has their gems and rocks, and we, as consumers of those products, have the right to share accolades or complaints. This is a forum, which is a type of discussion, which means it can meander from one topic to another at any time, much as conversations do in real-life and real time. But we all should have some faith and hope that all of the manufacturers do pay attention to the noises that we make, whether of glee or dismay, and take the appropriate actions with their products. Face it, we'll all keep buying, so we need to continue to voice our opinions. We might not all get exactly what we want, but we might all get what we need- more good stuff.
  20. I don't think that can be done. BUT- today's world of car modeling, I think that Revell is quite aware that there are so many "serious" car modelers, those of us who might be as particular as we perceive many military modelers to be. I wonder why Revell overlooks or ignores or disregards such things as an incorrect greenhouse height (the Mustang top flop) and an incorrect, but quite prominent, front axle for a replica of a well-known street rod (the roasted green '32). Especially when there is a LOT of research material available as well as the opportunity to actually see the REAL THING live and in-person. I can more easily accept problems on instruction sheets than errors that indicate lack of of 100% commitment. "Quality control" does not mean don't let quality get out of hand.
  21. Cool project. I would consider salt flat discs all around and a kinda big, aluminum Moon tank back there. Maybe paint it chrome yellow, or zinc chromate primer...? And for the door lines, yeah, the backside of an Xacto would be good. Try a few layers of scotch tape along the lines as a guide.
  22. Thanks for all the compliments . Dan, if I inspired you... go for it!
  23. And, just a couple more: ">http:// ">http:// ">http://http://s889.photobucket.com/user/jbuzz710/media/100_4074.jpg.html'>
