Thanks for all the feedback folks. I had not realized I would incur 'extra hazardous materials" charges. Thanks for the heads up. The only mail-order paint I`ve used so far has been MCM. I had a fairly good experience with their paint. However, I wanted to try out some other brands. I think I`ll look into the Gravity paints. And I will check out Splash as well.

Thanks for the info Nacho Z?

Has anyone tried Zero Paints. My understanding is that Zero Paints colors are a airbrush ready base coat lacquer paint as they require a clear coat to give them a gloss finish. They are produced in Solid, Metallic and Pearl/Mica colors and can be color matched to almost any 1:1 car and motorcycle. Additionally, I understand they have a "Textured Paint" that may be used to represent leather/cloth upholstery as well as floor carpet. However, on-line I have only seen it being carried by overseas vendors and have yet to find a U.S. supplier.

Exoics_Builder the quick A/C setup tutorial..its GREATLY appreciated. This will be VERY useful on my future builds. Thanks for the feedback folks..I had no idea A/C uints were available in so many kits!

Thanks for the responses, this was VERY Informative. I was not aware that Revell Monogram kitted A/C units in any of their car kits. If you folks think of any additional kits please feel free to add them to the list. Planning on building several low-riders and A/C units will be a welcome addition...

Besides the AMT `68 El Camino are their other kits that have A/C setups. Note: I think the AMT `70 Monte Carlo also has an A/C setup but I could be wrong.

Spure Cutters-Dull

Many thanks to all the reply's and Ideas. I1ll sharpen these but I will also check into the local beauty supply houses offerings. -
The spure cutters I have have been with me since 2002. Recently, I noticed they squish the spure into..they don't cut crisply and cleanly as they used to. Can they be sharpened or should I purchase a new pair.

Do I need to clearcoat enamel
69NovaYenko replied to 69NovaYenko's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
This is one of the better paint jobs I`ve done so far. So, I heed you'll advise and not clear-coat the body. Now with that said my final question is... 1) Will waxing the body protect the decals from airborne dirt /dust and oily finger prints. 2) Do you good folks have any suggestions on a good wax for my project that wont yellow over time...some of the decals do have "white" as part of their background color. -
Life events had keep me away from the workbench for the past three years, however the pandemic has freed up my time and I`m returning to the several stalled projects that have been laying idle. Hence, I have two questions. 1) One project in particular was shot in MCM red enamel. I had wet sanded the orange peel out and was waiting for it to dry/cure before clear coating. Three years later, upon pulling the red body out of retirement I see that the enamel laid down real nicely and all the parts have a nice gloss sheen. Upon discovering this I`m wondering if I need to clear-coat the body. I mean with the passing of three years I`m certain the enamel has adequately gassed off and cured. So should I clear-coat it to protect the finish? 2) Because this project is a race car it has quite a number of sponsor decals as well as some graphics that I had custom replicated for the project. Before I stopped on project three years ago I had applied the decals/graphics to the body. Do the decals need a clear-coat on top of them for protection?

After watching several of the car restoration TV shows I noticed that when the body goes to paint it was wiped down with a "'anti-static" solution or wipe to ensure the body is free of all contaminates and dust before shooting any paint. Are there any auto-body 'anti-static" products that could be employed in the 1:25 world to ensure the body is free of contaminates and dust before shooting any primer or color coats. What are your best practices to ensure a clean dust free surface before priming or laying down a color coat.
