I built it several years ago. Magnificint car, but an awful kit, both accuracy and quality wise sadly. I hope the 1/16 (Revell) and 1/20 (Do not remember) Versions, which I have not built yet, are better. However, I like your color choice. I tried to follow the instructions with a green shade which ended in a disaster. Anyway, I do not regret it since the kit is terrible, as mentioned earlier.

Tamiya Mercedes 300SL Announced, new pics added to OP

During a visit to the attic today I discovered that I have an Airfix/Heller 300 SL. It is a different kit than the Revell with a more detailed chassis but no open doors. I do not remember the Italeri 300 convertible, and as I said, never seen the gull wing, but somehow you feel Italeri finger prints there. It has separate front and rear clips. However, they do not affect the assembly of the kit. They can be attached before the body is mounted on the chassis. The revell kit has a primitive base plate which includes a front clip. This means it must be glued to the body in the very last step, i.e. after painting. The kits are compared in the photos. Right, Airfix, left; Revell, and in the center, the king. -

I have both Italeri gull wing and convertible 300 SL in 1/16. I have also the convertible in 1/24. Judging the 1/24 and 1/16 convertibles shows that the 1/24 version is a faithful down scaling of the bigger brother. Since you cannot down scale everything below a certain minimum when it comes to casting, you see notciable degradation of accuracy in the 1/24 version compared to the 1/16 (which is beautiful by the way). I guess Italeri did the same with the gull wing kits deriving the 1/24 out of the 1/16. Since I built the 1/24 convertible already, I can assure it has nothing to do with the Revell version. Frankly, I cannot remember if my collection includes the Heller/Airfix version. Digging for a kit in my messy, half finished attic is an adventure in itself, especially when three little monkies follow my steps. So I cannot confirm the similarities of Heller/Airfix with the Revell kit. -

No idea. Perhaps because the car is so special. Perhaps because it marks a turning point for Tamiya doing great classic cars. These two points created the impression it will be an exceptional blockbuster. BTW, I digged my ancient, still unbuilt Revell kit. It dates back to 1986. http://www.modellversium.de/kit/artikel.php?id=3320 Quick comparsion showed it was a very good kit for its age, at least accuracy-wise. However, it has a two-piece body. Now with the Tamiya kit released I do not have to fight with it. -

Got mine two days ago. Outstanding quality as usual. However, I expected this kit to be a breakthrough in detailing, but it turned out to be of the typical level Tamiya "detailed" kits. The multi-piece tube chassis is inspiring. It is an excellent guide to build a brass chassis. Never worked with brass tubing before. What kind of equipment are needed for soldering brass in this scale?? -
Yessssss...... http://www.oldcarbrochures.com/static/NA/Pontiac/1961%20Pontiac/1961_Pontiac_Prestige_Brochure/1961%20Pontiac%20Prestige-14-15.html and even better..... they made Candian Pontiacs with similar dimensions to the Ventura/Catalina http://www.oldcarbrochures.com/static/Canada/1961%20Pontiac%206%20Brochure/1961%20Pontiac%206%20Brochure-04.html ... but with 6 cylinder engines, probably taken from cheverolet.

IIRC Toyota built Chrysler cars under license. Therefoe there is a very good chance that the AA was based on one of Chrysler's Airflow models. But as far as we, modelers, are concerned, it does not make difference whether they copied them legally or not, rather, our primary concern is they copied them accurately to do our conversion :P

This is hard to imagine after all the tooling investments and possibly licensing royalities. -
Email Tom for the price. Tom sells complete kits for around 90 $. The price of this kit should be around this figure.

Strictly speaking: No, since each GM brand used its own chassis and engine(s). Check this link for frame differences: http://www.curbsideclassic.com/automotive-histories/automotive-history-an-x-ray-look-at-gms-x-frame-1957-1970/ But if it will make you happy to have under hood and under body details regardless of accuracy then go ahead. Model car building is to have fun, not to torture yourself.

After a long period of silence, Tom Coolidge is active again. He finally decided to go with the long awaited extension of his 1959 Olds line: a station wagon. Few pictures but they say a lot: http://public.fotki.com/tomcoolidge/1959-oldsmobile-series/

Yes, I have a problem with you and everyone supporting a racist terrosrist outlaw state with the worst record of human rights abuse . Yes, I have a problem with you and everyone using a platform intended for a hobby to express political/religious views. Yes, I have a problem with you and all "well informed" people trying to condemn one-sided racism using racist expressions. Classifying humans to semitics and non-semitics is in itself the utmost form of racism, especially when semitics claim to be superior to others. And the joke is, the semiticis that you are fan of are neither semitics nor related to Abraham in any form, rather turks converted to Judaism in the 10th century by purely opprtunistic motivations. Finally, and most importantly, you are free to think of what you like, but you should keep your beliefs and political views away from a model making forum. If I were a moderator I would have banned your avatar or even suspended your subscription completely. -

Paid 6060 for two kits + 1580 SAL shipping = 7640 Yen. 19% VAT is yet to come. This makes roughly 9100 Yen which means approx. 70 EUR. I doubt it will be sold here for less than 40 EUR plus shipping. -
No idea, but hard to imagine since resin cars models are not widely popular especially in 1/25 scale. Besides, R&R subjects dominated by classic American cars are even less popular there.
