  1. Spalding Trading Post used to have that stuff. their website is up and running, but I didn't go further than that.
  2. sounds like he was able to leave you with many gifts - memories, too. cherish them.
  3. if it's in a garage or utility room, dampen the floor an hour before you paint?
  4. thanks Brudda; "in service training" for the day!
  5. it's a relative thing ( cheap + quality). I think the best value in supplies is Hobby Lobby or Michael's, but that's 1 item with a coupon. sometimes there's a whole purchase 40 or 50% off deal, but you need to be vigilant. some online dealers will email you a discount code after you have placed the first order to "set the hook".
  6. RB motion lists the 1:1 sizes of their fittings, so with a conversion table or calculator you could reach a scale dimension. Detail Master ditto
  7. is this really a "high-boy"?
  8. he's probably just trying to show enthusiasm & interest in your hobby. if he does give you the kits, start one. when he asks for a progress update, show him what got done and tell him the hours it took getting there. he'll soon tire and move on to other things, giving you a good stash of kits. of course every time he sees you for the rest of your life he'll remind you of how generous he was, and you should be indebted to him for this generosity, so in effect you will be paying for the kits with pain & suffering! but it doesn't sound like he's a friend, else he'd know how much time & effort (not work! - it's a hobby) goes into creative endeavors, or that you see him too often, so it might be worth the risk.
  9. there's a guy over on TRaK that's selling 215+ kits, paints, et cetera for 600$ bucks. any of us would buy a kit for 3$ even if it were for the wheels or engine. but let's face it, it's a hobby and there's more to life than building models. keep it in perspective and you'll be fine. and there's always birthdays and festivus!
  10. I get emails from Auto World. amazing to see slot cars priced less than static kits.
  11. scraps of thick glass, too. clean up the edges with a carborundum stone.
  12. I can't clip 'n' paste, but try: www://fotki.com/drasticplasticmmc/1/2/1/after-market-sources & examples>modelhaus well ... I can't get my typed link to work, but rest assured, there's tires out there!
  13. bummer. bet he got some stories to tell...
  14. site won't let me post links, but try: amazon supply micro fasteners morrisco (j.I. morris company) scale hardware rb motion machined automotive specialties (MAS) if all of those fail, report back!
  15. I think the presentation has something to do with overall impression. if someone is working with challenges, obviously the end product is viewed with much softer criticism than some bull coming off the line with an I know it all for 50 years demeanor. if someone posts with a caption next year i'll be entering ninth grade, we're not looking at the model as if he won the Revell-Pactra '62 trophy. personally, I look hardest at models that offer research behind the build. I may not favor that particular genre, but if the original was painted with vampire-blood red maroon #42 and had Dagmars - and the builder took the trouble to research this, I can certainly overlook a glue fingerprint on the windshield. good grief; it's hobby and should be fun. and as supplemental information: if you're not banned from at least one internet forum per year, you're not trying hard enough!
  16. I'm tellin' ya's, it's for to lose the beer can so the fuzz don't bust ya!
  17. sounds like the voice of experience
  18. not what, but how you deliver the message. after 55 years I'm still a rookie when it comes to some things. but, as Bob said, "you don't need to be a weatherman to know which way the wind blows..." so if you've got an observation, spew it out. people who display their things in a public arena have to expect this. ain't all "oohhs", "aahhs", and "atta boys". be pretty boring if it were, too. I think the camera is the real harsh critic. I can spend months building something, focusing on what I believe is every finite detail, and one snapshot shows gaps, smudges, & flashing marks that could have been easily eliminated had they been not overlooked with the naked eye.
  19. I just assumed the firewall aperture was a variation of the Von Dutch "Tube le Dump". see page #4 - www.aeclassic.com/von_dutch_kenford
  20. the oxidation looks much more prototypical than the "dunk it in salt" method so frequently seen.
  21. some kind of Lincoln or Cadillac headlights?
