  1. When you can no longer sense the smell of the paint,it is ready to polish out. Tamiya compounds are good,as are many others. How smooth is the paint? If there is heavy orange peel, you may have to wet sand with polishing cloths or fine sandpaper. Is it a Metallic? You should clear coat it before polishing.
  2. Well, this was what I was trying to post to the Gallery.Unless the file size is too big I don't know what the problem I was having is.
  3. Nope still not working. What does "waiting to be approved " mean?
  4. Tried every Tag under the pic I wanted to post but that didn't work.Where do I copy and paste the pic tag from PB and which one should I use?
  5. Some resin F/C will come with a W/S,some not. Competition Resins has thick, but uniform flash in the window areas and when scribed out make good templates for transfer to clear plastic.(I'm not endorsing CR,just stating one of their pluses) other than that, most F/C bodies I've seen at shows seem to all be cast of decent quality. JMHO
  6. This would make a good project. Other than actually ordering/buying the exact color, come up with a chart that would show what other modelers have used to "get a close facsimile" of colors used on significant replicas (and maybe not so significant) cars. I know that the Gulf Porsche has been built a lot,and I don't recall seeing one that wasn't a close match on that blue.
  7. It's a Real....Model........
  8. Inquiring minds want to know!
  9. In case you didn't check.
  10. I'm gonna make a wild guess that it was "Decals by Lucas"
  11. OOPS forgot to mention pic in previous post!
  12. I concur. I've known Bob for years and used his chroming service also. He's also been one heck of a decent guy.
  13. >What were the couple of reducers he recommended to you? I am going to try lacquer thinner, even though they are enamel, I had heard that it would be quite effective< The reducers are made by Advantage. He recommended either the #114 Med. Dry Urethane reducer, and/or the #112 Fast Dry Urethane reducer. I bought a quart of each for about $7.50. I'll do a test today on spoons with the Med Dry reducer.
  14. When I moved to Mesa I checked out body shop supply stores for the usual stuff and came across "Space Age Paints" . I took the KK and asked the rep there about the recommended reducer. He stated that they used to sell it and had good results with a couple of different reducers. I went with his suggestions so I'll be testing( spoons) tomorrow. I'm interested in the colororshift line. I'll shoot these over the black base that came with the set and see what happens.BTW these sets are going dirt cheap on ebay, so I don't have a big investment in any of it.
  15. I was out of the build loop when these were intro'ed. Anyone know about a spoon test? The black base.Does that only apply to the colorshift hues?
  16. Is this the New tool '57 or the Old Tool? I can't remember who,but I'm 99% sure someone has a filled hood in their catalog. It may be just the gunsight openings though. If you really are serious, what about casting it yourself?Just the flat hood, and leave the scoop separate.
  17. Hmmmm.... Nice model and one I might finish... no foiling involved<G>
  18. I'm hurt and dismayed!! Nobody wants a McQuay-Norris speedster? Now what we REALLY need is an accurate 1957 Chevy! <G>
  19. I'd like to add that I prefer the 30 minute set as it seems to have a longer shelf life and dries clearer. If 5 minute is your preferred choice,I'd suggest small quantities so that it might be fresher. Also, epoxy makes a great filler when mixed with Micro-balloons.I can't remember who gave me this tip,but it sure does a nice job in certain situations.
  20. Well... I'm waiting to find out what this super resin is. I can't improve unless I know what the improvement is.
  21. I did one when it was a relatively new kit. I think Gregg had a pic of it in his I.P.M.S photo montage.
  22. Got mine from Replicas& Miniatures of Maryland. No web site but you can call Norm or e-mail him.Just Google the name.
  23. It probably went bad(absorbed moisture). I read once that putting resin (the A & B separately) in a vac chamber will alleviate that somewhat but the best thing is buy what you will use quickly and use that gas blanket (extend and other brands I'm sure).
